The Exotic Tour/Summer Tour '94 was a 1994 concert tour by English electronic group Depeche Mode in support of the act's eighth studio album, Songs of Faith and Devotion, which was released in March 1993. The tour is an extension of the Devotional Tour in 1993, which reached Europe and North America. The tour visited territories which the band had never performed in or had not toured in for some time, reaching Africa, Asia, Australia, and South America. The tour commenced in Johannesburg, South Africa in early February. As of 2016, this was the last tour the group visited Australia, Southeast Asia or South Africa. In May 1994, the group visited North America on the "Summer Tour, '94". This was the second leg of North American dates promoting Songs of Faith and Devotion and took place mostly in outdoor venues and amphitheatres.
In 1994 Depeche Mode were:
Alan Wilder
Martin Gore
Dave Gahan
Andrew Fletcher
Daryl Bamonte (As Backing Musician)
#DepecheMode #songsoffaithanddevotion #ExoticTour #alanwilder #davegahan #martingore #andrewfletcher #DarylBamonte
the devotional tour was the only tour where the drums sounded hard hitting you know just pure force, alans work extends so far its unreachable
Not wonder, before this tour never used, after ultra parties Christian transform himself for a konga monkey
Alan’s drum sound was much much better than any other following shows
WE LOVE ALAN, he was the brain of all tours
That's because he was a huge Bohnam fan, Al used his drum samples in several tracks and tuned his drum kit in his way.
Although he wasn't a very professional drummer, but he sounded more tasty and authentic than the modern dm-touring drummer.

I love the dark Jesus Dave period!! Awesome
"Jesus Dave"
I mean its not wrong 😆
He is fantastic!!! The Dark Jesus Dave is perfect!!!
The fact that these guys STILL managed to put on a good show in spite of the drama they went through during this period is pretty freaking extraordinary, if you ask me. Big fan of this band, by the way.
With poor Alan trying to keep things together before he had enough and walked away. Who would blame him?
@@Garylpool1 and poor fletch having a breakdown . Crazy times , we can only speculate what went on . Be interesting to hear what went down
DM forever ❤🖤🌹
Been Following this band since i was in the 7th grade. LOVE THESE GUYS!!
And Dave still doesn't even miss a note!
Absolutely stunning. The band was at their best form and songs they were performing were absolutely amazing.
DM at the height of their powers. They have never looked and sounded better than they did on that tour.
I must say Dave looked his best then. He's always been pretty slender, but I liked his hair long!
He was deeply in the throngs of Heroin addiction then.
For me also the best tour. I was there in Munich, but they weren‘t at the height of their popularity then. Concert was not sold out by far!
Hé looked like Jesus Christ but his face was betraying heavy addictions, he had lost all his muscles. I was so scared at the time.
❤❤❤I'm from distant Russia! You can't even imagine how deep the Depeche mode group is in my heart. Back in 1989, I met this group and still love them with all my heart and soul. The most stylish and most ingenious albums are Violator and Songs of fight and devotion! I cry when Andy Fletcher is gone and I really want Alan Wilder to return to the group!❤❤❤
Man...that setlist. All meat...no new filler songs.
lol! The 5 songs off SOFAD were what folks like you called "new filler" back then! Time is a funny thing...
Nothing like what You mentioned...Devotional tour..one of the best ever
I attended the Memento Mori concert, and it was an amazing experience, probably one of their best shows. There was this void on the stage where Fletch use to be, he is truly missed, may he RIP. I love Depeche Mode and I hope they will continue to make great music because they are one of the few bands that never sold out.
He was missing in this video as well. Replaced by Daryl Bamonte.
The much bigger void is where Alan used to be.
@@Kickingit06 I wish Alan would consider coming back now that the band is more mature.
@@TheRealSillyGooseGaming The band has never extended an invitation to Alan to rejoin. Don't get me started on that.
@@Kickingit06 that’s true, Gahan when asked said they haven’t even tried.
Dave was very lucky to have pulled through this time.
Saw this leg of the tour in Atlanta, GA and that rocking version of A Question of Time to end the show was absolutely amazing! Had everyone going nuts. I remember singing DM songs with a group of strangers after the show. What a fantastic time!
I was at that Atlanta show and had an absolute blast! Looking forward to seeing them here again in October! 😀
Imagine RUSH !!! blasted in your face in the first row , damn 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

@@wkowalczuk no problem. future girl!
It’s very hard for the lead singer to hide so to tour as much as they did with all their problems it’s pretty damn amazing they survived this tour, it’s a credit to there professionalism and getting used to performing wasted helps. ❤
Alan was the sound of it all
Daves vocals has oddly enough never been better.
The best video I have found of this tour, unfortunately they do not focus much on our favorite drummer, what do you think?
Alan was the master...He is forever
I’m so glad that I found your video. I went to this concert (different city tho) and I was really close to the stage up front. I was in a sea of sweaty strangers dancing and loved every second of it. By the end of the concert, we had all bonded over our love of Depeche Mode. The band’s issues didn’t seem to affect the music, at least not to me. I was just glad to be there. Thank you for sharing your video!
Mr. Alan Wilder
The masterpiece of DM, songs of faith and devotion, born in these years, the darkest days of their personal lives. Sometimes the best music comes from the worst times of an author.
Alan Wilder made these records happen.. no DM without wilder … post wilder era is very poor !
@@dkmyww Martin Gore is the soul of DM, the face and the voice is David, Alan was the music genius and i miss him, but for me Ultra was a great álbum and they still remains the same until now. A legendary band, Alan was a great part of it but DM is still alive.
@@metalerowilliamxxx Ultra is the first post wilder album and has his sound on it .. after that allot of rubbish .. agree to disagree .. will see them again live in dublin ..
@@metalerowilliamxxx Ultra is the first post wilder album and has his sound on it .. after that allot of rubbish .. agree to disagree .. will see them again live in dublin ..
@@dkmyww the first thing they did without Alan was to release the best album of the 90's. get a clue, rookie.
The sparseness of the stage set up, compared to the original Corbijn design speaks volumes to where the band where at that point.
So glad I caught them on the first leg of the tour with all he bells and whistles. Still one of my favourite concerts.
The sparseness of the stage was to pay for the extravagant show set Corbjin had designed for the first part of the tour as it was expensive to transport. Its exactly the same reason why Prince had to extend his Lovesexy tour in 1988 .
@Garylpool1 yup, they made very little money on the devotional tour. Anton even said although he loved the stage, he was naive to think about cost
I saw three dates of the European leg of this tour. This was, no me, the peak of their career, and I think Alan knew it too.
The masterpiece. I think sometimes drugs help to extend everything. The pain that people can't stop to use them... But Dave did it)
Could kick myself for not going to see this leg in St Louis when I had a chance to😢. I heard a couple of misfire samples by Fletch's replacement but that's okay😁. Alan is a pretty damn good drummer btw.
I much prefer Alan's drumming style to Christian's!
Big time
we all do :)
Absolutely. I saw DM during the Devotional era and Alan KILLED it. Christian is terrible. Sorry but I had to go there.
Alan was a brilliant musician .. his style was to add drums and percussion to give an authentic sound to DM after the band built the sound on only Electronics… the current drummer style spoils and takes from the essence of the songs .. no instrument should compete with another /. They should blend ./ wilder was the brains .. take a demo and turn into a masterpiece

Ruski HORROR
Wow, a rare find. Thanks for uploading, surprisingly decent quality. Dave looks elegantly wasted. Martin & Man-God look like they’re going through the motions, only in ‘Question of Time’ we get to see a bit of Wilder-beest. Such a shame there wasn’t more focus on him. Really appreciate this though.
i have noticed that many dm`s lives has got deleted from youtube (devotional tour, ultra party and others). I am glad that found your channel, this is gold! thanks for sharing
They make they mix of instruments and synth look effortless they never cease to amaze me❤
I don’t think Fletch was in this. He left maybe around the middle of the SOFAD Tour to get rest or rehab. Well, all I can say is the four of them are the dream team. Whatever anyone says about Fletch, he was part of the team in his own way. This is the dream team of Depeche Mode. Back of my mind I wish Alan would return. I think many people would want that. DM is still the best and will continue to be the best. Stay strong guys. One man down. I cant believe they’ve come so far and have longevity that now they’ve reached a point where they lost a member due to death. They’re like 60s now. Still young and amazing though.
Yup, Daryle Balemonte , their tour manager took over Fletch for this tour as Fmetch had entered rehab foe depression and exhaustion
I love these old videos because Dave looks more masculine that now, now he looks like an old ballerina. 💃
Condemnation -Martin 👍
CONCERTO LEGGENDARIO
Non vorrei sbilanciarmi troppo, ma credo che l'Exotic tour sia anche superiore al Devotional.
Gimmie Shelter as the intro music ❤
Thanks for posting !
a pretty solid rendition of in your room, especially with the state of the band at the time
Never forget this intro❤
Adorable..., thank you so much!!! 🎶💜
excellent !!! thank you Steve 86

Grazie
ON this Tour Dave was totally hooked on heroin..fragile very skinny and still managed to focus and deliver a show...you can sense he is drug induced here...Epic Depeche Mode and now in 2023 what an amazing Momento Mori
Fantastic tour!!! I saw them twice. Absolutely spectacular 🔥🔥🔥🔥

Damn, I'm so glad I saw them on the first part of the tour. Stage is night and day when comparing.
Amazing how just Alan, a completely drug smashed Dave and a most likely drunk Martin can still pull it off without the need of someone else
Do you seriously believe that Alan and Martin didn't do drugs?

Wasn't it in Biloxi?
@@lindahandley5267 Sure was.
Loved everyone singing somebody
Thank you for uploading. Sometimes it's actually sad to find it so good, knowing what was going on at the time. I would imagine that the band knew from the first notes whether the evening was going to be good or not. Clips from the Devotional Tour, recorded for VHS at the time, show more verve and interaction with the fans, knowing it was being recorded. Here, for example, it's played, you can tell, like a programme, hoping it'll be over soon. You could also think that it would collapse from one second to the next. But you can't blame it all again, considering the huge tour. It tugs at the nerves. The management, I don't think it was fixed at the time, could have taken countermeasures so that there weren't too many gigs. Kind regards
Top,Top,Top♥️
That’s what I call a great bootleg❗
That voice .... ok Martins too such a force 😊
Gahan really gave a great performance at this show. People think it’s easy being a front man. It isn’t. They just make it look easy. You try to sing and dance for over a hour and engage the audience. Most people can’t do it and that’s why they are highly paid. They earn every fan and every penny.
It looks exhausting to be running around on stage like that. It’s much easier to just stand behind a keyboard and play immobile.
As usual Fletcher always looks like he’s just standing there doing the minimum. Like he was a Supervisor.
I still wonder what did he actually contribute to the band musically? Probably nothing.
Thanks for posting this show! 👏🏻

Nearly every comment here makes mention of their “personal problems”. People are so hung up on that as if it somehow defines this era of DM.
hmmm, it absolutely does define this era.
@@voodoodisco Not for everyone. I thought they did their absolute best shows during the Devotional and Exotic tours, amazing setlists, the versions/sounds of the songs, the stage design and video screens for Devotional, that rocking version of A Question of Time on the Exotic tour, etc. I could go on and on. And you didn't pay scalpers like StubHub a fortune to get the best seats. Fantastic time period!
@@Hayyyward their drugged up, alcholic debauchery does define this era. "Fantastic time period" for you and the fans. but DM have admitted throughout the years this was a dark period for them and they're lucky to have made it to the other side. not so ;fantastic' if they were on the verge of death LOL
@@voodoodisco Correction,. The Devotional and Exotic shows I attended were F***ing FANTASTIC!!! Wonderful memories!!

Hi, I like this concert. Thanks for uploading it. Is there any chance of getting/buying original recording? Best wishes, Emil (from Slovakia)
I do not own the original recording.
Thanks for your reply. Do you think I could get to the person who has the original recording.
Dave on speedballs, Martin and Alan wasted on booze and cocaine. but you didn't know much about that at the time. so you didn't notice it.
Martin might have been but Alan wasn't. It was Martin and Dave's behaviour that finally sent Alan over the edge and he left. There was tension and jealousy within the band from making the album but drug addiction and alcoholism on a massive and long tour was not going to help but make the problem worse
@@Garylpool1 read Steve Malins' book. all of them we're on cocaine and ecstasy from the first date to the last.
