I absolutely love mine. Coming up on 3 years with them this fall and I haven’t even thought once of trying anything else. Spent a lot of time on genelecs, the entire JBL line, and all kinds of Yamahas, etc.. and these are by far my favorite.
You may want to hear Adam audio. S-series is light years better. Even A-series is whey better than these money gouging gimmicks for a much lower price. Plus Adam audio makes their own drivers and state of the art AMT ribbon tweeters. The barefoots have what looks like Dayton audio reference 4" drivers and Peerless high frequency drivers.
Thanks for the honest review of the 01s, they do sound great but a tad too big for my needs. I went with the 02s for my setup, notwithstanding the price difference. I am happy with the 02s. Moved from Genelec 1030s, but the actual reason was to have 3 ways. In any case for my setup, the 02s work very well for my needs. As you mentioned it might be the room compatibility, and I will not argue with that assessment.
Would love to see these vs the new Fluid Audio Image 2. Similar design philosophy. But can load Sonarworks SoundID correction into the DSP. A shoot out next?
I’ve had my 01’s for about a year and a half. I love them. I use the Meme just to check as he mentioned. I also have OG NS10’s that I use about 30% of the time to set levels. The 01’s have some “hype” to them that requires a check on some real NS10’s. The Meme on “old school” is useful, but it def doesn’t do the real NS10 thing. You can set levels much better on real NS10s. The 01’s are really fun to listen to, especially when just listening to something your’re not working on.
Wow this was a killer video! Great work. Love the review. And yes... I've noticed that I have not had to ask you to turn off the sub lately. Very cool.
Hey Andrew, nice one and I’m glad you’re taking the time to learn these.. They are amazing monitors. I have a set of these for home and a pair of MM27 Gen2’s at work (on Sound Anchors). Superb speakers. The stands, unlike with other speakers, will have no effect on the sound of these Dual Force technology speakers…. Grab a glass of water and sit it on top of one of the Footprints…. Now crank some bass heavy drums. You won’t see a ripple on the water in that glass. (Other than any room resonance vibration perhaps). Dual force and the heavy MDF cabinet construction, completely eliminates cabinet vibration. Give it a try!!
I’m curious what got you to move from the Focals! I was pretty convinced that Focals were pretty much the pinnacle of home studios, but now this video has me looking into the Footprints. I’d love to hear your thoughts!
Ive had my 01's for about 2 years now. I will not be getting rid of these for a very long time, if ever. Versatile, compact, yet, pack A LOT of punch (no need for a sub, just build and treat your room correctly), and all around fun to listen to. Having said that, I wouldn't call these be all end all. They have flavor. Will be getting another pair of something (PMC or ATC, not sure yet) to have as well for another reference. Im happy with Barefoots as my daily drivers. Get them! You wont regret it.
They have taken my mixing game up several notches but I am adding a sub to them after 2 years because I have a medium sized room with a 13ft ceiling where I need some lower lows.
I've heard these before but ended up getting a pair of Genelec 8050Bs in my old studio. The footprints have a weird off axis response, some crossover issues, and are definitely suffocated by the undersized enclosure - i.e. lack of low end extension and high bass distortion even at 86dB. The Genny's are also 1k cheaper and have pretty much linear response anywhere in the room.
When I heard these for the first time (in a great room), it literally changed the way I heard music. Everything was suddenly being compared to the standard set by those Barefoot’s. They would have been a stretch for my budget especially since I’m planning to do Atmos in the future, but the Kali Audio IN-8 v2’s ended up really blowing me away as well. I was on a deep dive for monitors after hearing those Barefoot’s lol. The Kali’s are such a great price. If Atmos wasn’t a thing, I’d probably save up for the Barefoot’s, but getting the IN-8’s and then expanding the setup to Atmos in the future is the way I’m going!
I usually don’t pay too much attention to all the extremely high priced studio monitors unless it’s a brand I already drool over like Neumann. I’ll never be able to afford hundred thousand dollar speakers. That being said, I actually noticed a pair of sls audio ribbon monitors with a free moving hinged section. The weirdest monitors I’ve ever seen that weren’t trying to be some modern art gallery exhibit and cost as much as a super car. I wonder if they sound any good. They cost too much to expect someone to take the time to show me.
@AndrewMasters. Thanks for all the vids. Studio tours are way cool. Just picked up the new IK Multimedia PRECISION series MTM which has a (optional🤨) four way remote for the same purposes. Altough i do believe the IK's use EQ/software for this, bit still pretty cool. Settings for ATC, NS10, etc. Also can tap into "40" TV, car, and phone emulations. Built in ARC room calibration as well. No "Cube" mode which is frustrating. Maybe in future update? All that said, i usually just keep them on the "Precision" mode which is probably similar to the "flat" setting on the barefoots. Anyway, im guessing this modeling, and built in room measurement calibration will be the new norm with many new monitors. I believe Adam already teamed up with Sonar Works to "store" profiles IN the speaker itself rather than keeping software on the mix buss. Congrats on the new speakers. Peace!

I've wanted o1's for a long time. They are just a touch too big. I was looking to upgrade my old Solo 6 be's. I was thinking about the new ST6 solo 6be's, Footprint 02's, or PMC and others in the 3K-4K range. I just never heard the 02's in person. They seems like they are fun and accurate. Getting rid of the foam iso pads help. I cut them up so not too much of the speaker was touching the foam. That helped a lot. But now I'm using the Rax rubber iso feet. My SW guy told me they were better than the iso stands and pucks. They really work great and it helped the older 6's. I could have just kept using them. The new versions are more fatiguing and not as fun for leisure listening. Studio monitors is all I listen to music from. The variety of monitors that are hooked up. They are more accurate but updating my DAC to the new RME 2/4 also mad a huge difference. I almost forgot to make all my settings on my Mac and Apple play were set for Hi-fi hi bit play back. It changed somehow so I have to check it every now and then when I hear something off. Someday I will check out the footprints in person in my room.
I'd like a chance to hear them for sure. I worked A LOT on MM27s back in 2008 - 2009 and while they were razor precise (even in relaxed mode) man, they were so picky about the room! and dialing them in with those side firing woofers was tough as we were moving stuff all around due to nodes and there was 1000s of dollars of GIK treament in there too. Since then, I've been a bit gun shy of Barefoots.
I'm no monitor expert but let me see if I got this right - barefoot footprint uses what would require a very nearfield based usage based on what looks like a 35 dollar 4 inch aluminum cone Dayton RS-100-4 woofer and what looks like a mediocrely bright sounding 20 dollar Peerless by Tymphany XT25SC90-04 1" Ring Radiator Tweeter that these rocket scientist level monitor engineers didn't bother spacing closer together because that is probably not necessary to do for ultra nearfield monitoring. Let's also witness the dual firing sideways bass woofer "display", probably also those magical elite level Daytons, which Barefoot advocates so happily report "big full bass in the room" at low volumes. Ya that low end must sound so clean and accurate in bedroom studios to fire in opposite sideways directions. Oh right, the DSP calibrates it. Wow what a solid way to get the most pure soundwaves. I've never heard of anything more purist. I'm sure theres some F35 equivalent level technology in the barefoot dsp to get it there!! How can there not be? Hmm, I wonder if I should pick that over the possibly state of the art ultra high headroom power of the ultra flat response Adam S3V tested in a state of be art anechoic facility in Germany and sold for 2/3 the price of the Barefoot footprint 01, ultra clean amplification, double the weight, and Adam's own manufactured honeycomb woofers, dome woofers and AMT ribbon tweeters. Let's not take into account the insights by speaker manufacturers that if a system sounds good with rock, metal or other forms of dense and busy music then it will sound good with anything.
