You know the good thing about the bullies and " Cool kids" that made life rough for us? Many of them peaked and burned out early in life. And adulthood is way cooler for us than it is for them. Great content Jacob. Appreciate you man have a good New Year.

I found this video honestly insane, when I saw the thumbnail my jaw almost dropped. I’ve been watching you for about 3 years and I live in Valpo. I just would have never guessed you grew up here. I remember you said you grew up somewhere in Indiana just didn’t expect it to be Valpo. Kinda neat to see all the places I see almost everyday in one of your videos, my place is right behind 711

Valpo resident here! The store with the swastika-like floor pattern was Martin Binder Jewelers. The building was built in the 1880's and this is the original floor - it predates the Nazis mutilating this symbol to perpetuate hate.

This is a good historical video now of downtown Valparaiso since within the last year, they tore down Round the Clock and the building next door to build a parking garage and a huge apartment complex. Also, Tony's Pizza is now closed and The Dish will be moving there from N Calumet. Lots of change in just a year or so.

This is very nice, like showing us around your old neighbourhood. And the stories going with it are very recognizable to most people growing up. You're right, to try and keep the balance in this. i wouldn't want to know every personal detail. Social participation is very difficult for me. But i'd be interested or like it when you fill in with some memories or details on stuff you pass on the road.
You're doing fine Jacob, and it is a pleasure and a privilige to follow you as such a fabulous guide through various parts of the USA where you show us the extraordinary and remarkable, old and new. Wishing you the very best for this new year and leaving through the paypal desk for that anual contributution ;)

Middle school was really bad for me too. We couldn't walk around to places where I grew up so I would have to ask my parents. If they didn't feel like taking me I had to sit at home. We mostly hung out at the mall or the movie theater.

I liked seeing where you grew up. You could do more if you're comfortable doing so. Don't feel forced into it. I think it's a cute town. I remember the old rides at the community parks. Kids these days don't have as much fun as we did growing up. People are afraid they're going to get hurt. So you fall and scrap your knee and, move on with life.

I hear ya, my kid, we put him in another elementary school - his request - he was a dorky kid with thick glasses. They tried to test him by making fun. Little did they know he had Irish blood from home mom's side. Anyway, long story, short, we were called in to pick him up, as he beat this bully to a pulp. No teacher could say he was a troublemaker as he was and is a mathlete. To this day, it brings a feeling that sometimes things are good in this world.

It was fun seeing your trip down memory lane. It’s funny how those places trigger that nostalgic feeling our whole lives. Except middle school, because that sucked for me to. I would ride my bike up and down the aisles of this huge outdoor plant nursery when I was six. As far as I was concerned I was on a horse in the middle of the wilderness.

This was a treat to get a little glimpse into your past. I loved it. Just enough for us to enjoy without getting too deep into your private life. Middle school kids can be so cruel so don’t carry that burden around any longer. Let it go. I hope you have a safe and happy New Year. Remember, life throws us curves every now and then and you too will get through the rough times and come out a better person in the end. Keep your head up and keep on with your entertaining adventures.

I was born in 1957 (Gary IN). we lived all over Indiana and moved to Valpo in 1972. I went to BF Jr. High and Valparaiso High School. From 1977 to 1983 I was the night cook at the Old style Inn. Orville Redenbacher would eat there about twice a year and always came through the back door like most of the regulars customer's did. He was a real nice man and would always stop and talk with me for a few minutes. He always had a medium rare fillet. I moved back here about 3years ago. I have two brothers that have lived here since 1972.

I moved to Valpo in 2011 and have lived here since. I did visit the pet/hobby shop early in the 2010's and I found it a really cool place to go in town. Now there are plenty of restaurants and bars, a few specialty stores, and lots of things coming soon. Also, those floor tiles aren't swastika's. They are actually symbols that meant good fortune and are drawn opposite the way the nazi's did it.

I really enjoyed your video. I am Canadian (Toronto) but I liked the authenticity of your memories of a kinder, gentler, American despite the bullying you experienced. People are hungering for authenticity and honesty today, not the Hollyweird hype machine.

What timing! My dad is a fan and introduced us to your channel over the holidays - you are a delight, BTW! And here you are sharing a hometown with my husband! (Well, the "weird dip" between Hobart, Wheeler, and Valpo, at least LOL) When I would visit from Canada, he took me around to some of these places - I remember Galactic Greg's, and am pleased to see they've gotten bigger! Instantly recognized city hall, where we got our marriage license! So cool to see what it's like now! My husband remembered some stories about the hobby shop and the Don Quijote restaurant thanks to your vlog! Thank you for sharing!

Loved this one Jacob! Of course I adore your travel content, but there's nothing like a nostalgic walk through the past. We were just in my husband's hometown and we visited all the sites. It does the heart good.

Loved this video - seeing a real American small town, & listening to your stories. Valparaiso looks a lot like some towns over here, in Victoria, Australia, except a bit more run down, & your roads there are not in good repair. But it was fascinating to watch & to listen to you, so thank you! 🐈‍⬛🐕🐈‍⬛🐕🐈‍⬛🐕
