This concert was in Pakkahuone, Tampere, in 2000. The concert was released as DVD in 2001. So Tuomas is 23 going on 24 and Tarja is 22.

Tarja is amazing just as Nightwish. Love all the singers in Nightwish, the previous ones and current one. They all have brought their own style to Nightwish and are equally great.
Tarja shines in this one :) . To see an even younger Tuomas try the song "Gethsemane" , he looks about 14 lol . It is such an amazing song
I knew them already when this DVD was released, but that was the first time i saw them live, else i only knew the music from their first CDs. Still love this concert especially "Walkin in the Air", "Death Boys Poem", "Deep Silent Complete", "Swanheart" and "She is my Sin".
And the thing is, whatever people think about Tarja, without her Tuomas mostly would have never written all this music, she was his muse. Before they made more accoustic folk music but when Tarja came back after her classical training they noticed her voice was now way to strong for that kind of music and then had the idea to try metal.
And even though there was already quite some music that mixed classic and rock, beginning with Ritchie Blackmoore maybe, that style was quite new and inspired a lot of bands do try symphonic metal.
Theatre of Tragedy and Tristania were also inspirations for the young Tuomas.
@@damienmaynard8892 Oh, i didn't knew that Tristrania was already founded in the same year than Nightwish. On the other hand they never really catched me.
Before i discovered Nightwish i heared a lot of Lana Lane, yes she is even an american but i guess also unknown in her own country, and then Nightwish, Edenbridge and Within Temptation the most. I checked out also nearly all other symphonic metal bands in the early 2000s but most of them were just like hear them once, and then back to the classics.
Meanwhile i also really like "Ancient Bards", "Epica", "Visions of Atlantis", "Ad Infinitum" and even though its not symphonic .. Lovebites. Those girls really got me in the last year 🥰
One of my first music dvd!! I remember myself seeing it at least three times a week 😅 like a medicine or something. Nightwish was a big breakthrough on my teenage years, when I stupidly thought that only thrash metal was good music for me. That dvd really opened up my mind and helped me expose myself to other beautiful metal bands and of course symphonic music. That was so important to my future as a music producer and a drummer.
It's been ages since I heard this performance! I believe it's the first music DVD I ever bought, thank you for the great memories and the great reaction!

NW started from simple modest, humble beginnings (check the very early material too) and continued to grow organically and pioneering the genre. That humble attitude is one item I value most in them. They never have been selfish and arrogant and just for to show...all comes from genuine heart and soul...Ocean Soul...from a small town of Kitee. This tune is one of the favorite for Tuomas (Flying Snowman) and he wanted to make a NW version of it and here it is so beautiful that ever.
Have to say, those were the days... I can remember beeing eh, few yrs younger than now. Lol. I went to Helsinki and Oulu a lot. Because NW concerts were cheap-ish back then and they were one of the best even back early 2000's
Nightwish wouldn't be what it is without Tarja. That isn't a slight. Floor's a goddess and Annette deserves nothing but love. But Nightwish is a symphonic metal band thanks to Tarja's powerful, operatic voice. This band exists how they are, sounds like they do, thanks to her voice. So, yeah, she deserves all the adoration she can get.
Look at all their baby faces!!! 😍😍 Omg I love seeing them from so long ago and then seeing them now! Tarja is still beautiful as she was then. And the boys grew up all so handsome 😍 thank you for taking me back! This is another favorite for me. And yes Tarja and floor are both unicorns!! Would you please react to creek mary's blood either live from end of an era or the official music video? That song hits me in the gut every time and I would love for someone else to appreciate it. I like the version when Tarja sings with an orchestra. I really like when she did it in 2017. The 2017 version shows her in a white dress and you get to see her tattoo. It shows off her classical traing voice.
Absolutely, her classical skills are far better nowadays than back in 2000. But the way she sang this song in 2000, was very beautiful too, and didn't need all that operatic skill. Talking about the Olomouc 2017 video? It's so different in style compared to this 2000 performance, with lots of operatic decoration.
Gotta love young Nightwish - it's so weird seeing Emppu with a Washburn instead of the EV-1!
He used a Washburn N4 Nuno Bettencourt signature guitar for live performances with Nightwish from 1997-1999.
@@damienmaynard8892 Yep, and then a Washburn CS 780 from 2000 until 2003-4. The album Once is when the EV-1 first showed up. So, there's just a couple of clips that I know of from pre-2000 where he's got the N4 Nuno Bettencourt, then From Wishes to Eternity and a couple of other videos with the CS 780, and then in almost everything from End of an Era on, he's had the EV-1. Except for the Amaranth and Bye Bye Beautiful videos, since he accidentally left his guitar at home and had to run out and get a replacement, that black ESP Eclipse!

This entire DVD is wonderful. Regarding the term "Nightwish army", I think it is a recent expression. I had never heard of this term in Tarja's or Anette's days. It seems that this term came up among English speakers in the current era of the band. I particularly believe that this is an expression strongly linked to Floor's fans. Nightwish fans have been many since the first era, but in the past we didn't identify ourselves as an "army". I don't like to say "Nightwish army". It sounds aggressive to me. I prefer "Nightwish family". I think it best expresses what we were in Tarja's time, when the atmosphere in the fan base was not yet toxic. At the time, Floor was already known to many of us. I listened to Nightwish and After Forever to the same proportion. What didn't exist was this stupid teen competition created by fans today. This atmosphere of animosity seems compatible with the bellicose expression "Nightwish army", but, as an old fan that I am, I refuse to accept this term.

The army is a group of organized people who have their social networks, chats, forums and they alert each others and go together. And they refer themselves as the army. I don't know when that came to be, but it is definately Floor era, pretty fresh.

OH, GOODY!!!! I absolutely ADORE THIS SONG! I'm more of a "Nightwish w/Floor" girl, but Tarja has some beautiful songs to lay on us! This is just one of my favorite Tarja favorites. One comparison you may WANT to do with this song is Jarkko Ahola's version. He has been bandied about as a possible replacement to Marko, although we all know it's not going to happen. His version is just as special as this one! Could you react to it as well...??....PLEASE....?...😁 Tarja's "Sleeping Sung", "Over The HIlls and Far Away", "Phantom of the Opera", "Creek Mary's Blood"....these are just a few wonderful Tarja songs. Yesss, more Nightwish with Tarja ❤️ Love them no matter who is singing. Sadly a lot of reactors don’t do the older gems with Tarja, only Floor. I enjoy pretty much all versions with Tarja and Floor - maybe you could do double reactions with them both for the older songs? Both women are amazing and it would give great insight to both Nightwish’s past and present. Just a thought! Anyway, this made me very happy, thanks! 🤗
You are so right! For me there are some songs for which I prefer Turunen, and for some others the curren one, Jansen. The middle one's, Olzon's, voice was pretty suitable for Storytime.
And Anete reactions are even more rare. Sadly, as there are some very great songs in her era. And I do appreciate Anette as a vocalist a lot, to me she has an awesome ability to make songs feel alive with the changes of her voice. For example, although Floor sings very nice "Storytime" and "The Poet and the Pendulum," they are very even singing compared to the lively perfomances by Anette, and those are always her songs to me.

I also agree it's about the band, not who's singing. I just happen to gravitate to this older material when Tarja was the singer. I'm not a singer fanboy, I appreciate great vocals, but it's not the focal point for me, it's the song and the overall sound of the band.
You want to see them looking really young, check out "Gethsemane / Sacrament of WIlderness", from Finnish TV 1999. Their earliest known footage.
This.Its metal.Vocals are least important part.Hell,some best metal tracks are without singing or vocals are growls and you cant understand anyway.

Yeah I don't even know if Americans would know about this. I'm British and I grew up watching The Snowman with the original version of this song.

One more sleep, one more sleep, my first ever Nightwish concert.....admittedly it is virtual...but it is my first...not bad considering I only found this band last year during my second lockdown because of covid and work. OMG I am sooo excited. Gonna miss them doing Endlessness tho...in an interview Tuomas said they would not be doing that song. Marco....COMMEEE BACCCCKKKK

I'm not with the army, just a regular fan. BTW, when looking old Tarja's songs, look for REMASTERED ones, there are some with have hugely better video and audio quality than the multimillion watch count videos. Glad you didn't take the End of an Era performance! In that concert Tarja's style was cut into more contemporary one and then she also had a flu: comparing to other 2005 concerts there is a real difference with the quality of her voice. Sure there are couple of great performances from EoaE, but if one wants to hear specially Tarja's voice, better go to other concerts. This Tampere 2000 From Wishes to Eternity is a great concert, like you said: it was not about the show, it was about the music. Tarja was still a rookie, a diamond in the rough compared to today, but songs like Walking in the Air don't need all that operatic skill she now has... this is great already back then. And you can certainly see how she enjoys singing it.
I've been on a Tarja kick tonight. She is awesome! I like Annette in studio she has a pretty tinkly voice. And of course, Floor!!!!

I don't know if people really understand and appreciate how good all three singers in Nightwish really are. Exactly the same thing with Black Sabbath between Ozzy Osborne and Ronny James Dio from their different eras as singers. Probably they don't give a shit just to have something to discuss. If you don't like one of them. Then just skip that era. Dont listen to the songs and reactions with that singer. It's not harder than that.
