When creating 3D printed items how do you get your measurements just right?

I use a micrometer for measurement, do a test print and then test fit to make sure it fits.

@@ModernReefer can i use PLA... I plan on painting it with a safe approved paint... but it is PLA.. i already made it in PLA. It will go INSIDE of the tank as a decoration.

@@gladiatormechs5574 I've always used PETG. I don't believe PLA will work in as it may dissolve.
