I actually found her more beautiful with the platinum blonde hair. Orson knew what he was doing.
Btw, would love to see more of Eddie and Alicia segments, they have a nice chemistry.

It's a brilliant film, but I'm surprised no one ever seems to mention it's devastating dialogue. The shark frenzy scene has some of the best dialogue found in film.

Didn't Welles dye her hair blonde just to annoy the studio heads at the time? I've always heard that.

No, Welles just thought it would be better for the character.

I love TCM but sometimes they do get into these huge "Ruts." They sometimes play the same movie multiple times in a week. I would love to see some of the older movies very seldom seen anywhere please? Later!

Hayworth "stripped of all her heritage," says Alicia Malone. How ignorant. Margarita Cansino--Hayworth--was a Spaniard, and, as such, a person of European heritage, native to Western Civilization. (Do even Aussies think that "Spanish" and "Hispanic" mean the same thing?)

Shes done more research on old Hollywood and been a fan of Rita her whole life i think shes knows more than you do

@@65g4 I can see you know NOTHING about nations or anthropology or history, but are satisfied to accept an error on faith, because Malone has "done more research on old Hollywood"--which no doubt she has--ABOUT HOLLYWOOD. Knowing that Mayer headed MGM, or that Cagney had a contract with WB, hasn't prevented her making a mistake that usually only Americans make.

i agree...Rita never hid her Spanish heritage and the fan magazines always published her backstory in their articles...the public knew her heritage. she played Spanish characters like Carmen, Dona Sol, and Maria Acuna in one film w Astaire. Astaire himself included Spanish rhythms and steps into their dance numbers together. nothing was hidden from the public. also Orson Welles said how proud Rita was of her heritage and that her fathers family were gypsy dancers from Spain.🌹

      She was half Irish.
Being made a rich famous star is not the worse fate one could suffer.
Men cheated on Betty Grable,Gene Tierney, Lana Turner,Liz Taylor Halle Berry Beyoncé etc.
Many people have had unhappy lives.Cannot blame studio system for everything.

RH sexually abused since maybe 12 yrs old. No doubt drinking started around same time. Her mother stayed w/ her at night to keep her safe. Welles heard of Rita's demons during their weird marriage. Boyfriends husbands beat and raped Rita. She knew men wanted access to her body fame money and nothing else. Sad she lost her memory in her 40s-50s. Maybe mercifully as well.

just about every sex symbol during the classic hollywood peroid did not like the typecasting...... Theda Bara, Clara Bow, Harlow, Hayworth and Monroe. all beautiful women were typecast. i think its may still be true today, if your 'brand' takes off with the public and you become a superstar, you are pretty much boxed in. even Tyrone Power complained that his film roles were too repetitive

Jeez, why don't they talk about the film? We're halfway in, and they're still going on about an actress's hair.

I like all the actors involved but this movie was not good. Hayworth very good, Welles accent laughable. All the other characters simply annoying.
