  • How To Choose the Right Mutual Fund Schemes for Your Portfolio?
Some equity funds may do sector rotation because of cyclicality. It is not done because of the risk involved in the mutual fund investment. Sector Rotation helps the mutual fund generate higher Alpha. Multicap funds have large cap holdings so it could remain stable when compared to small cap funds during a market crash. One must never stop their SIPs irrespective of market conditions. This is because India is a strong growth story. First timers in mutual funds can consider index funds as they easily capture different investment strategies.

Pick a simple nifty index fund and that will be enough for a diversified portfolio. If you want risk add quasi midcap nifty next 50 in 70:30 ratio. This is an simple, low cost portfolio without fear of underperformance. As Indian market is maturing, the alpha will shirnk in the future, so index fund has edge over active funds. Keep in mind few things
    i. Asset allocation and timely rebalancing is the key.
ii. Goal is more important than alpha.
iii. Aggressive means grind hard to invest more , not investing in small caps and leave everything in the hand of fate.
iv. Increase your investment in each passing year. Most crucial.

Isn’t it contradictory to say Multi cap is more flexible then flexi cap MF. Moreover is it necessary to have index in the portfolio when you have flexi cap in the portfolio for long term prospective. I want to start for a long term investment and want to go with two flexi cap MF along with a mid cap fund. The flexi cap will have my 60 percent allocation including lump sum and sip and I want to go for SIP for mid cap.
    Flexi cap:
JM flexi cap and Parag Parikh flexi cap.
10k each and then around 8 lakhs of lump sum spread over 6 months.
    Mid cap :
Motilal Oswal mid cap : 20k sip.
Please suggest. And thank you for the video. It was amazing.
