Yes, this is a pillar of good marketing for all of the reasons you explained. And, for God's sake, if someone gives you their email address, you MUST email. They're expecting it. Don't just collect email addresses and sit on them. Make sending an email a part of your regular routine. Whether it's once a month or once a week, just start. And don't always ask your audience to do something, email when life is just ticking along. Bring them into your world.
