      Disagree. NEVER attemp to use an endmill in a drill chuck like in this video. Use a proper endmill chuck. Drill chucks are not designed to work with radial loads that appears during milling. Some day, the mill or the entore chuck will fly away from its arbor...and you don't want to be there if this happens, believe me.
      Not talking about any kind of precission. You just can't pretend be in this hobby if you are not willing to spend the money in some basic stuff.

    • @TinC33
      @TinC33  6 років тому +4

      Diego Viana Villegas true but for small work with endmill i just use basic chuck because it's fastest way, if i mill more i put out the chuch and use mk3 cone for mill i got from 2mm to 20mm.

    If you don't have a milling machine or CNC you can also put a mill in your lathe's chuck, then install the part you want milled on the tool post holder. A plate is best (like an L profile plate, for example). You won't have an axis, so you have to install the part where you need it to be cut, but, you'll have the option to mill flats, which is more than you had before.

    • @TinC33
      @TinC33  6 років тому

      aserta true

    • @rascallhunter
      @rascallhunter 5 років тому

      To take this a step further, if you mount the L plate directly onto the cross slide, then mount the compound slide to the vertical leg of the L plate, you now have your third axis. Best bet if you are using an angle plate (L plate), if there is going to be any heavy milling done, you may want to brace it to keep the vertical face perpendicular to the lathe spindle.
      An alternative is to find a milling attachment for your lathe (Taig and Sherline both sell such attachments for their lathes, other manufacturers may as well). This is what I have for my Taig lathe.

    Nice instructions on how to construct a basic hydraulic cylinder for RC models. If one have the possibility, I advice to put 2 off o-rings on the rod. The outer o-ring will stop small bits of sand, then the inner o-ring will last longer.

    • @TinC33
      @TinC33  6 років тому +1

    Decidedly NOT a boring video. I am a mechanical engineer and built hydraulic shears in a previous job. We often had pistons in the 450mm+ range, but I can say they went together just like yours mostly, especially the seals. Any part stuck out or was forced during assembly would slice a seal then the whole thing had to come apart and be replaced. I enjoyed seeing this video and am looking forward to more like it. Thank you.

    Something you can try when doing final cosmetics . When sanding the primer or final color, swipe a few of the wife's multi grit finger nail files. The ones that have 4-5 different grits on one stick. Use the Medium, Fine, and Polish grits. I use them wet and/or Dry. wet for final polish stage. I have even glued the fingernail files to the head or disposable electric toothbrushes after removing the bristles. Oral B work great especially small parts like these cylinders. Thank you for such a detailed and informative video. I've been looking for a video of this quality for a long time. Very impressive work.
    Now to watch your video on building the hydraulic pump and control gear. Awesome 👍
    Thanks again. (could you do a video tutorial on making the hydraulic control system. The valve, reservoir, pump etc)

    This is fantastic. Very informative, and also entertaining. You do very good work.
    One thing... Please get a set of collets to hold your end mills. Milling with a drill chuck is at best inaccurate, and at worst, very dangerous. That chuck isn't meant for the lateral forces, and there's a good chance it'll pop off the arbor and go flying across your shop!

    • @TinC33
      @TinC33  6 років тому

      Chris Santacroce that's true, i use collet when milling more, but for small milling operation till 10mm mill i use chuck without a problem, it's just much faster.

    No, no, no. This is very good stuff. I've been planning to get mini lathe for quite a while now and pretty much everyone has said to me "No, don't get small chinese lathe. Get old TOZ or something". I've tried to say many that I don't need to big lathe, they're everywhere and I don't have any interest in doing rims or huge parts. I'd like to make bushings for motorcycles, bearing press tools etc. and if possible and have need to do some small detailed parts. This video proves exactly my point, that if the machine is so-to-say calibrated well they could be capable of doing pretty detailed work and user creativity and talent of operation is the limiting factor on manual machining tools generally speaking. I'd totally get that TOZ or something similar, if I'd have space and use for it. Plus this is going to be the way. I'll get one sometime and try to work with it. If I get the talent to use it efficiently, I would also feel much more better in possibly getting bigger lathe if needed. But I'd still doubt I'd sell mini lathe even in that case. Even for ergonomics it's nicer to have small machine than to try to work bit bigger machine with part diameters of say around 20mm. Thank you TinC33

      Hy, do you wrote my mind? ;)
      I listen daily how sucks that lathe is, but propabbly from people who don't eaven see that lathe.
      I got this lathe for 8 years now, year 2011 i pay 300€ for new lathe, what is this 1/4 of new iphone? that's funny price if you ask me, and the lathe is just great, it's preatty limitet with a size but for my hobby somekind enough, but if you want to use them for what you say, i will look for one size bigger lathe, they'r about 800mm leinght, and got 100 or 125mm chuck, because weakness point on that lathe is bore through the spindle it's only 16mm on 80mm chuck, well that one size bigger got hole through 20mm or 22mm.
      That lathe work really awesome, but you need propper tool, with bad tool you need more force wich lathe can't handle, so you need really good sharp tool so you can turning, cutting, facing... without any big force, and lathe will run as it must, so tool is basic in combination with that mini lathe.
      I slowly looking for that "one size bigger" because i want auto support for the x axis also, but i will never sold this one, because as you say ergonomy, i work also with bigger lathe like 2meters working area, but you need to stand and be bended when work, after few hours it's not that easy, but here, i got it on table, so i can sit and work really comfortable.
      You can watch my other video about lathe, lathe tools from banggood, and so on, i got lot of video about this lathe.
      And offcourse as you say that's actual my slogan "if you learn to work on cheap machines, you will be master on expencive machines"
      So if you want a lathe just go for it, you can still sell them easily if you see that you need a bigger lathe...
      If you got any question feel free to ask.
      Just one more interesting fact, i buy that lathe 2011 for 300€ today same lathe in same store cost almost 600€, i ask them why and said that chinesse got steel price, connected to us$ so US$ rise, price of chinesse still rise.
      Where are you from, in US got brand grizzly, in DE optimum, holzmann, in AT erba, bernardo, there are really lot of brand of that lathe, but the'r all preatty much the same, except the equpement, electronic, painting, stickers, and maybe some better assembely, but the price can be 3 times higher for a brand like optimum, so be careful when buying.

      @@TinC33 thank you. I'm from Finland. I've noticed same with prices. I regret really bad that I didn't buy one about three years ago. Prices where much lower and many models which where sold here are nowhere to be found today. I've been recently looking into possibly ordering directly from Banggood,but then again I've noticed that occasionally on eBay etc. I've seen Holzmann for about 150euro more, but with much more included tools. I think they're not high quality, but maybe still something to start with and I think I'll get more complete order with bit higher price? Actually I've seen few Bernardo branded machine for sale here too, but for much higher price and well I guess guarantee is a bit hit and miss thing anyway in cheap machines anyway,well unless there's something absolutely horribly wrong with the machine. Still I feel like I can deal with many problems myself so ordering from somewhere else is ok to me as long as seller is fairly reputable. Would you get machine without tools or would you pay bit more for somekind of set of tools if you were buying machine today?

    • @TinC33
      @TinC33  5 років тому

      @@jothain Hy, i wouldn't be worried about waranty, because there's almost nothing to broke, maybe electronic but other, should last for long, i make many many hours on that machine in 8 years but still running on first brushes. ther's also electronic protection so you can't overload the motor. There are also tons of spare and optional parts on internet, so fixing and improving shouldn't be problem (You can see on my channel how i make it more ridgid, make cheap dro, rail cleaners...)
      If i buy today, i will may a bit more, because i see that bernardo got manualy lapped ways (rails) my cheap machine got only machinned grinded. and that's really importent stuff, not easy to make home, so i got some lathes from bernardo on eye, but temporrary to expencive.
      And deffinitly i buy without any tool and equipement, because price rise too much for the shitty equipement wich come with, with time you throw away everything... On banggood you got soooo many good tools (check my channel) for a funny price, QCTP is one of first thing you need to buy (maybe even before buy a lathe) on bangggod you got some good qctp entire steel, than you need some live center, self tightening chuck, and offcourse a set of carbide insert tool holders...
