We bought the aura frame for my dad in a senior assisted home. It has the best quality pictures!!!!!!!better than hd. Also the whole family can add pic through the app and it is so fast to do and comes across the frame very quickly!! My dad loves it. We love it. Ours though was over $200, i believe, but well worth it!!
I echo another comment here on buying a Smart Display instead. Any new photos uploaded will automatically display plus the added functionality of video calls, touch screen, and most anything you can do on a computer can be done on the display. Chelsea, I dont know how old your mother is, or if she lives in her own home, but you may at some point need the ability to check up on her well being. A smart display can be used for this - view the camera remotely (privacy concerns aside). Very important when you get older.
Thanks for the review! There might not be as many of us who'd like to display digital wall art (something the size of a large framed print) but I'd love to hear what you think about the Samsung Frame, Meural Canvas, or just using a Chromecast or something to send images to a monitor or TV set. None of those seem quite perfect yet, but I would guess somebody is working on the next generation method for photographers to continually display their work in a classy way. (And on another topic, thank you for continuing to push camera manufacturers to include anti-theft tech!) Keep up the great work!
I just ordered the Aura Carver as a gift for my Dad in another state. They offered free 3 day shipping, so should get there b4 Christmas and after purchasing I got to send all the photos I wanted, including a personalized message for when my dad first turns it on. I didn't have to send it to myself and preload it up and then send it to him. I never even get to see it until I visit him in the summer. But I have seen these before and the frames as well as packaging are beautiful. The ease of sending the pics and videos I want directly to the frame via the app or via email is priceless. And storage space is unlimited without any additional fees! I can also easily link multiple frame devices and can send pics/vids easily one, some, or all of them at once. My dad is going to LOVE this gift. It already has about 300 pics of my daughter uploaded to his account which will automatically display when he turns it on and connects to his wifi. Living across the country and with covid we havent seen each other in years but now he will instantly forever have any video or pictures i want him to have and I never have to worry about subscription fees or storage space! Im so happy and will be purchasing another for my mom's birthday next month!
I love digital frames for family photos on display. It saves space from conventional bulky photo albums. Your review is timely and informative. Thank you so much. I watch your video every week. BTW, I am an advanced amateur photographer using Canon EOS R system.
Great video! I received a Brookstone frame as gift and I love it. The quality isn't amazing but from afar, it looks perfectly fine. I really don't understand having a touchscreen on a picture frame, though. Having finger prints all over your nice pictures kinda defeats the purpose of a nice visual display. But that's just me.
No, this time it's not just you, in fact your point is exactly correct with respect to picture viewing--something to which the manufacturer and seller of a picture-viewing technology ought to have given thought. It's a marker of thoughtlessness.......which may apply elsewhere......
I LOVE THIS VIDEO. Always wondering how those work and the difference. As both a photographer and an interior design freak I love Chelsea’s pick, the Aura. If I could choose just by the looks of it it’d have to be the Marvue. The frame with a mat are so pretty. Too bad they need to improve on photo quality. Thank you Chelsea so much for this reviews. Hope you guys have the most beautiful and happy holidays! ❤️
I like the Marvue’s more timeless look, too! The image quality is probably fine for the average person but seeing it side-by-side with the Aura was jarring. The Aura looks great and shows the exact colors and contrast I edited my photos to have. That’s a must for me as a photographer.
After your video, I spent hours trying to determine if there is a digital photo frame that accommodates "folders." Perhaps I did not "search" the correct term; but, my search effort was to no avail. What I am attempting to do is eliminate the hard print photo album. For example, I have 20 years of successive annual fishing trips to Alaska, each in an individual photo album. If there is a product that accommodates "folders", then I could transfer the photos to the product and view them by year, rather than having a stream of photos with no "divisions." In advance, thank you for any advice you provide. Cheers, Ron
My wife was just gifted with a frame. Not sure if it’s one of these and it’s always dangerous to see a review after you’ve got the product. I’ll be interested to see how this plays out.
I don’t know about the others, but one of the best features of the Aura is the ability to automatically sync photos over the Internet. My mom, who lives in another state, loves her Aura. I simply drop a few photos into a Google album every week, and they show up on her frame the next day. Great way to share old memories or even just the latest snapshot of the grandkids. Oh and the gifting process is great, too. As long as you know the recipient’s WiFi settings, you can preconfigure it to automatically connect when powered on, display a custom welcome message, and start syncing photos-perfect for when you are unable to deliver the gift in person. Aura really thought this one through.
Thankyou Chelsea! We are in the age of "digital decay" where unless you give your phone password to someone to access your photos, they're gone when you're gone and nobody knows how long Instagram will be around so it's time to preserve those pics! It's time to start an "album" of photos, and this is a great product review!
Thanks for bringing this non-camera topic to the channel! I have often wondered if a digital picture frame was a wise purchase and you have helped sway me to the "yes" side.
Thank you. Have often thought about these. Interesting that the Aura comes in different styles as well which you should have mentioned. Some are a few dollars more but nice to potentially get one that also has a matt like one of the others. Couldn't decide so I ordered two!
Great review and timely too!... I would have liked to know if they have different storage capacities and if the resolution is different between them but good job overall.
Pictures are commonly taken in 3:2 or 4:3 aspect ratio yet all digital picture frames are 16:9. Notice how the head is cut off in the pictures shown. Surprised no one has made a 3:2 frame yet.
Very neat, I’m more of a google nest hub man myself as I enjoy having the smart home functionality with digital picture frame. But these definitely fit if you want a particular look.
@@bibshot1989 I think it’s great and more than good enough for what it is. I’m much more about the functionality and enjoy all the things I can do with it but if you want a certain style I can see why these would be better.
Good video, but as far as packaging is concerned, the only thing that interests me is how much of it is recyclable? I do think that there is an untapped market for digital art displays and wish that there were more high-quality options, imagine a display that was only lit by incidental lighting but had an 8k or even 16k resolution and the ability to cycle through multiple images.
I need a bigger frame, something like 40", wall mounted, without a gap in a nice frame, matte non reflective surface. I also want it to be with a programmable update interval, I want it to change picture from once a day to once a month. It needs to turn off the screen when the room goes dark. What would be your recommendation?
No, the aura will also let you display photos side-by-side if you don’t want to crop. The app also has an auto crop feature that allows you to select the most important part of the photo so it doesn’t get cropped out
HI Chelsea , thank you so much for doing this great Video... it helps heaps... but as a Professional Photographer which Digital Picture Frame would you buy for yourself , regardless of the Price and Value for the money , with True Picture Quality ? Right, I think I'd rather have one that doesn't need an app or an internet connection and could just act like a USB drive when you connect it to a computer and then read the photos and a settings file saved on it when you turn it. Chelsea mentioned that one has a nice longer display time per photo - it seems silly that this isn't a configurable setting on all of them.
