I saw this scene in my last days of high school. It hits me very hard
can NEVER listen to it the same way ever again after that last episode
One of the most beautiful anime, sadly underrated just because it has no romance. Only some will understand the depth of this masterpiece.
You know, as a band student I always felt a really strong connection to the Hibike soundtrack. Growing up and doing band since 5th grade, I always had this thing where my brain would take melodies from pieces we played in band rehearsal, and my brain would just start turning the melodies into soundtrack-like orchestral compositions that became the "background music" of my life. It would just grow, all based on band melodies. (This never-ending stream of orchestral music in my head got me diagnosed with ADHD...) :( Later I started taking advantage of this and composing my own music, but I didn't know what it was called for a long time. Nobody I've ever talked to has been able to relate... I've just stopped telling people I constantly have semi-original music in my head because I look like a hallucinating weirdo.
But the Hibike soundtrack here is mostly centered around one melody-- and it's a melody from Crescent Moon Dance, the piece the band plays! Sometimes I like to think that Kumiko is as weird as me, and the melodies she hears from band rehearsal become the background soundtrack in her head. Which is why I love this soundtrack so much.
aww, this was so touching to read. I relate to the fact that you felt a strong connection to band class, as I feel the same with any music class I'm in. I feel these powerful connections with music; it's just so beautiful that it goes through your soul :) but I just wanted to also comment that no matter what you feel, you're never alone even if it feels that way! Don't ever feel out of place because it's beautiful to be different. embrace this part of yourself and please love yourself, because you seem like a wonderful person

I absolutely agree. I love when anime involves the OST as in-depth as Hibike did. I love the whole idea of variations on a theme for a central musical theme for a show. Girls und Panzer did a fantastic job of this as well!
This is very similar to me. I am also in band (Woo hoo!). However, my condition is similar, but on another disorder: OCD. I have so many obsessive thoughts which occasionally lead to compulsions, like playing my trumpet until my lips sting , swell, or bleed. With ADHD, you compose. But with my OCD, I arrange. My favorite genre of music is ragtime. I love playing the piano as it takes my mind off of my increasingly worsening disorder. I take random band melodies or melodies I hear from the radio, and punch them on the piano. Then, I get syncopation added. After that, I harmonize that with a repetition of chords that reflect the melody. After that, on every on-beat, I add bass notes that "move" the listener and on the off-beats, I keep the harmonizing chords.
I love jazz, but its fast paced tempo gives me a happy version of anxiety, which ultimately leads to compulsions. What sucks more is that I can't even listen to ragtime, only play it myself, as I take my mind off of anything other than the keyboard. DARN! But light and fuzzy music like Bossa Nova (yes, elevator music) and certain songs of Sound! Euphonium calm me.
I think it’s common for Asian dramas to have many different moods based on one piece of the music, usually the show’s theme or most prominent music. But yes, I do get what you’re saying. The music just keeps playing in the back of your head and it changes depending on the mood, just like a soundtrack.

This anime shows kumiko's biggest journey. Kumiko was not a protaganist at season 1. Season 1 was about kumiko finding her passion. After season 1 ends,her love on euphonium has grown so much. Season 2 was about Kumiko finding her voice,or being honest to people she love. Kumiko was very distant with her friends at season 1. She only listens what other people said. She didn't show her true thoughts to other. But season 2 shows how she found her voice. At season 2 episode 10,she became her true self and shows her true wish to Asuka. Also in episode 12,she tells her sister that she loves her. She finally found her voice. After season 2 ends,she has become a true protaganist.

Luke Mason first season ended on a high note. Sure they didn't say anything, but Reina's face at the end of the first season says it all, and words cannot describe the joy they all felt at that moment where all their hard work got them to kansai and nationals

Good news for you! Third season or movie was announce a while back. Kyoani unfortunately suffer an attack but they said that will not stop them! Yes I also relate, Hibike just gave me such school vibes, the way they design the sunny apple fields and stuff, I love this show so much.
Finally, a Third Season. It was a long Journey, never Forget. Kitauji Fighto 🙌🏽
So, track 19 "Ishiki no Houga," makes me feel such a unique feeling. It's this self-contradicting yet totally unwavering feeling of melancholy mixed with hope. Like this raw feeling of being at peace with whatever struggles will come my way. I am so in love with this soundtrack, and that particular song is a perfect example of why.

You know, as a band student myself, instantly when I heard this sound track, I was pulled in. At the start of the show (this is the first ever anime I watched), I wanted to stick around mainly for the music. Honestly, I stuck around for more than just the music after the second episode. This show is compiled so well with music and drama mixed in. No need for action or battles and such. This show just hits me because I love music and I'm in band. I watched the whole show in 8th grade and I loved it then, but when I watched it again in high school it just brought a whole different level of emotion especially because I'm in marching band and concert band. When the series ended it was some of the saddest days of my life and often I would return to this video and listen to this video on repeat while staring at my ceiling. This show just hits me right in the feels. Kyoani did a wonderful job.

it is a bit overplayed, at least in the first 6 episodes (i am in the middle of rewatch :))
This show is my one favorite animes, it's just downright inspiring to people who are really invested into improving in an instrument. Let alone that this anime is just pure beautiful and amazing on its own... I can't help but admit that I rewatched this show several times, and enjoyed every single moment that passes on every single episode. And I have to add, that this anime inspired me in a way, with how they present all the things that the characters were going through, and how they made the characters so realistic in a sense. I just really love this anime, and finding it just simply made my life that much better. The aspect of music in this anime can really send a message to whoever is watching, this anime just blows me away, with how they designed everything in the show. Anyways I'm sorry about such a long message in the comments section. I only wanted to express my feelings into words. This is an easy 10/10 for me, so let's pray that season 3 can come out at least in 2020.

This was just such an amazing show to watch. The characters were so lovable, the story was amazing, the soundtrack, the instruments. It didn’t go towards something that was stereotypical, it was music and these students daily lives that each tell their own story and along with their struggles. I had so much fun watching this show yet I am sad that I finished it. Where season 2 ended off was just so emotional and amazing at the same time since that scene was where season 2 all began.

I was reading the manga "Girlfriends" with this ost, and the music Ishiki no Houga started at the end of chapter 21 (SPOILER : when Mari completely confess her love to Akko, and Akko kiss her). It fitted the scene perfectly. ^^
This is the only anime since Marimite that has got me listening to the OST and yearning for more.
