As an educator let me assure you that most of us in this career chose it because of our passion to instill knowledge and growth in your kids. I remember what one of my first teacher supervisors told me when I started teacher preparation and I'll say it now "Everything below the neck may look adult-like, but above the neck they are still children". It's important to keep this in mind because at that age kids begin puberty and they require proper mentorship from parents and teachers in navigating the changes happening to their bodies and minds. Clearly she lacked this pedagogical knowledge on top of lacking common sense and morality, throwing away however much training and hours of college work (if she did any) and her image into the garbage. You are right she won't do 20, probably 5 at least, but that speaks to how poor our laws are. She should complete the full sentence because of the gravity of the crime, and imo I believe is a crime that merits more time behind bars no matter whether the culprit is male or female. It's bad enough that the shortage in education is allowing for states to cut down more entrance gateways, which means the requirements to get into teaching are becoming easier for anyone to get in, including potential pedophiles. It also is staining the name of our career more than it already is in this country. Working with adolescents and helping them navigate the murky waters of teenhood, apart from teaching them my content, is part of the reason why I went into teaching. It's a job with a large moral and ethical responsibility, and we gladly take that huge responsibility. To those who don't have that genuine passion to lead and develop young minds, I encourage you leave and make way for those who are fully committed in seeing your children grow and prosper like myself and countless others.
