Oh Man! McGrath was injured and he played like that. Best defensive display i've ever seen. The clip doesnt show some of his back heel defensive flicks he did you Ireland that day. Ole' Villa fans will know what i'm talking about. What a fantastic man he is, and a true gent....
I will never forget this as long as I live... I was in a trailer tent in a Place called Normans bay near Eastbourne (England) watching on a portable TV... One of the best football occasions in my life.... "Houghton... GOAL, GOAL,GOAL,GOAL, GOAL" Magic!
Id probabley say the greatest defensive display by a center back ever!.. baggio back then was one of the worlds best - if not the best..but he was made look amature by a 34year old with bad knees.. one of the best nights of my life!!
I remember that day so well. When Ray Houghton scored that majestic goal I went absolutely ballistic in celebration, heaven knows what it must have been like in Dublin. I pray that that the republican of Ireland starts to qualify for major tournaments the Irish FA must be more forward thinking and innovative especially with the younger players.
i got into football from this game, it was incredible and remains perhaps is the best an irish team has ever played. great revenge from '90, mcgrath was a god that day. yeah there is footage of this game on: 'Jack Charlton The Irish Years' DVD , you can get it off ebay im sure
I can understand Paul as a recovering addict myself he wanted the game to end but wanted the buzz to last for as long as you can get out of it...which can lead to relapse into substance abuse... thers a fine line between genius and insanity.....so many players suffer from addiction to drink drugs sex gambling.......stay safe everyone
keane should not have left the team but his point was accurate...the FAI wanted champagne on a beer budget....and the Irish mindset was "happy to be here" Keane was right...but should not have left his team
I was in section 335 that day...What a week Rangers win the Stanley Cup that week for the first time in 54 years and then Ireland beats Italy...If I hadnt been a virgin at the time I could have died happy
@Ho Ho Ho yea thst would've been sweet alright host semis in italia 90.... But seems we did get put out this was a sweet revenge and especially the 94 Italian team full of superstars and to score and nullify their effort was one of our best days in the green!!
Since you asked, the only other time Italy have been beaten over a 90-minute period in a World Cup, since Italia 90, was to Croatia in the group stage in 2002.
It so unfortunate the the Irish millennials never experienced this...man they were some great times, that span from '88 - '94 we were unbeatable only bad luck got the better of us
Lads remember: Is not the size of the dog in the fight but the size of the fight in the dog. So well done Ireland you guys play better with the bigger teams becouse you guys are fighters I respect you alot. il signor. Baggio Arrivederci e a presto.
i'm english and it was a bit of a pain with england not being at the '94 world cup but my head nearly went through the ceiling when ex kop legend ray houghton scored that goal. thought the irish were cheated out of the following game against the mexicans.
Back in 1994 I was a struggling long-haired teenager studying music and hated football. I couldn't stand the World Cup and the attention it brought if Ireland got through and was glad when it ended. Now, I'm still a musician (thats always a part of me) but much happier, I no longer wear my hair long but that's cos I just got sick of it long, in fact I only cut it short 3 years ago lol. I still don't care about football that much, but only in the sense of Liverpool, Man utd, Everton etc, I could never get into those, but I LOVE to support Ireland as a country in all football tournaments, and when the World Cup comes along, I'm as desperate as anyone for Ireland to go through and to WIN. I'll wear green with everyone else and be proud.
Paul McGrath - better than all the rest. Not a great bloke but a fucking great footballer. Love to see how the over rated primadonnas Ferdinand (looks good because of Vidic) , Terry (looks good because of Carvalho) would handle looking after a rookie like Baab.
Ahhh youth. Roy Keane barely scratches the top 4 with Brady, Giles and McGrath waaayyy ahead of the thug. In fact, I'd put mark Lawrenson ahead of him too. And someone older than me may remember even better players than them lads.
c' mon it was a boring old match where Ireland was lucky to score and just played defense and tried to waste as much time as possible...you can' t really make a service out of that (I' m half Irish half italia btw)...hope you guys win the rugby world cup, gr8 game against australia
Ladies and Gentlemen, Paul McGrath - jesus what a performance!
Oh Man! McGrath was injured and he played like that. Best defensive display i've ever seen. The clip doesnt show some of his back heel defensive flicks he did you Ireland that day. Ole' Villa fans will know what i'm talking about. What a fantastic man he is, and a true gent....

Mcgrath what a ledgend. They always say putting your body on the line in every sport. He done the soccer version of it in this game
Id probabley say the greatest defensive display by a center back ever!.. baggio back then was one of the worlds best - if not the best..but he was made look amature by a 34year old with bad knees.. one of the best nights of my life!!
mcgrath could have graced any team in the world! A pure legend!
Golden years! This makes me so nostalgic for the good times. Oh how we long for the team of the early 90's
Remember every bit of that match. Wish them good times were back!
The Irish and Italians like each other, they are both Catholics.🇮🇹🇮🇪✝️
i got into football from this game, it was incredible and remains perhaps is the best an irish team has ever played. great revenge from '90, mcgrath was a god that day.

I can understand Paul as a recovering addict myself he wanted the game to end but wanted the buzz to last for as long as you can get out of it...which can lead to relapse into substance abuse... thers a fine line between genius and insanity.....so many players suffer from addiction to drink drugs sex gambling.......stay safe everyone
wow! what a great match! underdogs indeed! hope ireland can make it to the next world cup! thanks for the video!
I clearly remember that line from the commentator "and Paul McGrath a tower of strength in the Irish defence"... what a performance from the big man.
great achievement from the Irish team, I like the ÀIrish pride, it reminds me of my country's pride, suffers but always proud!
keane should not have left the team but his point was accurate...the FAI wanted champagne on a beer budget....and the Irish mindset was "happy to be here" Keane was right...but should not have left his team
i prey and hope to relive the emotion that i felt in 90,94 and 02. Trapattoni will take us there!
Mc Grath was so tallented, he made Phil Babb look world class
I was in section 335 that day...What a week Rangers win the Stanley Cup that week for the first time in 54 years and then Ireland beats Italy...If I hadnt been a virgin at the time I could have died happy
The Irish & Italians are Not enemies here in the US just competitive :)

Revenge on knocking us out 4 years earlier!! Sweet!
@Ho Ho Ho yea thst would've been sweet alright host semis in italia 90....
But seems we did get put out this was a sweet revenge and especially the 94 Italian team full of superstars and to score and nullify their effort was one of our best days in the green!!
Would have preferred to win in 1990 and play Maradona in semis

June 18th 1994 will forever be for us mere mortals, the day that Irish team became Superheros in a Stadium belonging to Giants.
Brilliant times
Lads remember:
Is not the size of the dog in the fight but the size of the fight in the dog.
So well done Ireland you guys play better with the bigger teams becouse you guys are fighters I respect you alot.
il signor. Baggio
Arrivederci e a presto.
I think every Irish player that day gave 100% McGrath was the man of the match for me and Houghton..well what can you say.. Great job boys..
brilliant
@CactusMarcus I hope Italy go far too, Love ya for saying that
Remember it like it was yesterday
I was there
i'm english and it was a bit of a pain with england not being at the '94 world cup but my head nearly went through the ceiling when ex kop legend ray houghton scored that goal. thought the irish were cheated out of the following game against the mexicans.
The best.
Seems longer than 13 years ago!
How about 30?
Back in 1994 I was a struggling long-haired teenager studying music and hated football. I couldn't stand the World Cup and the attention it brought if Ireland got through and was glad when it ended. @kevy06 Best player ever to play the game is from here :) I was a 1 year old in 1993 so I doubt I had much intrest in footie back then
Who won in '94? It was us, wasn't it!
You win in the cuisine, fashion and style stakes.
What about Sheridan hitting the bar
goduria totale! forza Irlanda!
McGrath was the best by a mile when you make it look easy that is how you know the best
@CactusMarcus :)
@salaparuta2 : Good luck to Italia
Good lad.
@MrBaggio2010 why is it only ever small people who say that XD
But where Pagliuca was when Houghton scored ??? :hoho
Paul McGrath - better than all the rest. Not a great bloke but a fucking great footballer. Love to see how the over rated primadonnas Ferdinand (looks good because of Vidic) , Terry (looks good because of Carvalho) would handle looking after a rookie like Baab.

Northern Ireland are a joke. When was the last time they finished in the top 2 or even 3 of a group. And what was that last one. 5-0? lol
fucking love paul mcgrath
Staunton left attacking winger!
Ireland should have beaten Italy in Bari. Failing to do so will come back to bite us in the ass in October.
Mi dispiace che quest'anno non avete bissato questo successo. Da sempre e per sempre contro la nazionale di calcio gobbitaliana.
mcgrath owned
