Mega Drive - does it work with PC Engine using that mode?

This is a copy of RAD2x. I like that it has a full size HDMI port but I can’t endorse it when this “RetroScaler” company (BitFunx) literally clones Mike Chi’s products with stolen firmware (RetroScaler 2X is a clone RetroTink 2X).

…and if the picture “jiggles” or blurs when scrolling then it sounds like it is deinterlacing non-interlaced 240p… which means it has the same problem RetroTink 2X was made to fix (modern TVs mishandle 240p but not 480p).
Edit: Yep. At 6:17 you can see the simulated transparency glitch due to treating 240p as interlaced. It is supposed to flash at 60hz to appear transparent but instead you get alternating solid/clear lines since the device is treating both frames as two interlaced fields of the same frame. RAD2x/RetroScaler doesn’t do this.

I'm not sure if Retroscaler and BitFunx are the same, as I've reached for Bitfunx before for the Mister Fpga Review and they completely ignored me, and when they finally replied they asked me to guarantee that the video would get at least 10k views to send me a unit lol
Retroscaler was the only one who was willing to help me out with the channel and start a partnership, and from all Mister units sold I haven't seen a single complaint about the shop.
and how are you so sure it uses stolen firmware? couldn't it be reverse-engineered?

Another point to consider is that Retroscaler shop makes these products accessible to everyone.
For example for someone who lives in Brazil, getting a Rad 2x would cost 2 or even 3 times more, they don't sell it on aliexpress and you have to import it yourself, which will add a heavy custom tax on top of that.
this Retroscaler cable is easily available on aliexpress and you'll pay a fair price for Brazilian standarts

@@VKsChannel Yes, BitFunx, Kaico, and RetroScaler are all the same… as they admitted when responding to the RetroScaler controversy. My brother and I always gave him the benefit of the doubt, defending him when everyone attacked him for the Kaico OSSC and wrongly called it “clone” or “bootleg.”
When the RetroScaler 2X was first revealed everyone was attacking them, claiming that it was a 1:1 copy. Though we have always been huge fans, Mike Chi blocked my brother for asking if it had stolen firmware and correcting people who claimed the board was a 1:1 clone (it clearly wasn’t).
Indeed, we were excited that something like the RetroTink 2X was going to be more available, and by making it slightly longer RetroScaler was able to reorient the inputs and switch to a full-sized HDMI port, fixing my two biggest complaints about the RetroTink 2X design. Unlike the people dog-piling RetroScaler, we wanted to know if it was truly a clone before condemning them… but their “placeholder” page clearly had text copied directly from Mike Chi… typos and all.
Even so, we couldn’t figure out why everyone was so sure the product itself was a clone since no one had it yet and there didn’t seem to be a public firmware. It seems it could have been RetroScaler’s own implementation of the same off-the-shelf hardware Mike Chi used, which would be totally OK if he managed to do it without stealing. We even said publicly that it’s not a 1:1 clone but could still be a clone if RetroScaler somehow stole Mike Chi’s firmware, but asking if there was reason to suspect that seems to be what got him blocked.
Since then we found a conversation where Mike Chi alludes to sharing the firmware with someone on Shmups who turned out to be BitFunx… and BitFunx basically backstabbed him with it. If you read their Reddit post you will see them dance around the firmware question while claiming that it is made with off the shelf hardware that Mike Chi does not own/control. They are right about that but the firmware was always the important part! Mike Chi was the first and only person up to that point to find a way to get that scaler to properly handle 240p and line-double it. It was his work. He owns it. BitFunx/RetroScaler commercial product shamelessly stole it. Not cool.
I didn’t turn on BitFunx/Kaico/RetroScaler until I was absolutely sure that they were stealing and it wasn’t just a mistake… like the OSSC logo and remote overlay from VGP or the placeholder text from the RetroTink site. Since then they’ve done more despicable things, like violating the open source license from GCVideo by removing Ingo Korb’s credit. He hides behind the fact that some of his products are open source but he still hasn’t figured out how to read an open source license.
For those with no way to get these products from more repeatable vendors, I would not begrudge them for getting them from him but I really wish more people knew.
That said, the reason he wanted a minimum number of views for the MiSTer video is because it costs orders of magnitude more than the RetroScaler. He can only justify shipping them to reviewers where the potential sales can offset that cost.
