- Hey, guys! This video is my first ever fan theory and I hope you enjoy it. I do not own the music or clips used in this video. Both belong to the Walt Disney company. I know that I say in the intro about Halloween being just around the corner, and Halloween is now over, but this video was filmed in advance and the editing process took far longer than myself or Kevin imagined. The video clip quality is a bit off due to some technical difficulties but hopefully we won't have that problem with future videos. Anyway, this video is all about my theory on why Sarah Sanderson is the strongest Sanderson Sister. I hope you all enjoy the video and think about the points I bring up!

I always liked Sarah the best, and it's clear that if Sarah had been the leader, the witches would have survived. Literally every time Sarah suggests a plan of action such as looking in the alley, recalling the potion ingredients and using one of the bullies as her victim, the witches would have won. I agree 100% Interesting theories about how Sarah could have bewitched her sisters as well.

And this is why i always say sarah acts dumber then she lets on probably because winnie and mary always shoot her down when she does somthing right like when she remembers the ingredient or when she hung back for a brief moment in the ally way and i 100% think she could be as powerfull if not have more power then winnie if she just got over her sisters always telling her what to do and billy and sarah would if be cute to see idk why he would kiss winnie 😂
You forgot one important detail: Sarah has hair straightner powers in Hell.
Idk if someone already said this but you could also use the argument that Winnie and Mary look like they are fairly older than Sarah. In some cases, the two older children tend to be closer to each other when a younger sibling comes along. So Winnie and Mary might be closer to each other than to Sara. And Sara being the only one being younger would leave her in a resentful and Lonely position
I'd guess since hocus pocus 2 flashbacks takes place in 1670 because it seems the sisters flee from town after setting fire to the town and the sign in the first movie says that the cottage was abandoned by the Perkins family and was left abandoned until the sisters arrived in 1671 so that means winnie had to raise her sisters after their mother died due to winnie being the eldest and wise one so Ill say winies 16 in the flash backs and marys 15

You are right. I never got it how winnie had one little container and TONS of kids around her: And Sarah said: We have a child. and pointed to Ice and Jay. If they had sucked their lives.. they would have time guaranteed and cook more potion and hunt Dennie. Winnie ruined everything
I believe Winfred is the most evil one but I think as you do, I think Sara Sanderson is the strongest.

Sarah Jessica Parker who played... well.. Sarah, said when they were promiting the film that she thinks Sarah is the most evil, because she is so dumb that being evil is sonething that she could have naturally and its something learned.
Most powerful, but in Sarah Parker's own words, she believed that Sarah Sanderson was the most evil, since she seemingly had more fun than either of the two just being evil by nature. She just constantly lost herself in being cruel or disgusting, eating spiders or twisting the torture cages and zoning out, intuitively knowing the most obvious course of action, loving jokes that mock others.

They also had the children Sarah hypnotized that they could’ve use the potion on even without Jay or Ice.
Intelligence does not equal natural power. And while Winifred is the most powerful *humanly* of the sisters, that doesn't automatically mean that transcends into supernatural powers. Sarah just doesn't use hers to the height that she could. I have always thought this.

I think your right that Allison is a witch because there is a scene in the movie when she use salt around her and Winifred actually say: what a clever little WHITE WITCH
yeah if you notice sarah's power is the siren call (connected to sound) and when she gets near to alison and the circle of salt she starts to have problems with her hearing. if you watch the scene where the witches rescue the book.

IMO, Mary is more of a specialist as a tracker. She doesn't show much particular aptitude past her tracking, and Sarah and Winnie don't display anything like what Mary can do.
i like your theory about sarah knowing what to do next but it wouldnt have mattered.. at the end winnie is the only one to get the life force from max , she would have lived if she didnt let her feet touch the cemetery grounds. basically she was probably making sure she was the only one that survived the whole movie. remember toward the end of the movie winnie criticizes max for trying to " save thy sister". she didnt care if her sisters survived at all.
YEZ YEZ YES YES YES! I COMPLETELY AGREE WITH ALL OF THIS AND EVERYTHING MAKES SO MUCH SENSE! I hope we see more of their backstory and powers in the sequel which I cannot WAIT for!

You can see that Sarah is just planning her revenge on her sisters. maybe she can't now because she isn't strong enough but maybe she is waiting for the right time. I also feel that she may have been adoptef of a half sister or maybe she was a good witch but cursed...

I think it's almost certain that Sarah's songs have an effect on adults, like, we see the sisters enthralling adults with their singing in the "I put a spell on you" and right before being hanged (that one was unsuccesfull). Now, these examples feature all sisters snging together, and you could argue that this is them working together as a coven to make the spell stronger, but I would argue that Sarah can "fill the sky" all on her own, she doesen't need their help; besides, neither Mary nor Winifred EVER use a siren song when Sarah is not around (since we don't see Sarah or Mary shooting lightning along with Winnie, I don't think the sisters can share their powers) so I believe this was simpe misdirection, an attempt to hide the fact that only one of them is a siren, so that people would be terrified of getting within earshot of any of them.
I'd also like to say, I don't think Sarah is dumb at all, I mean, she's odd, childlish, and probably has ADHD, but she's very observant, can perfectly remember something that happened 300 years before, and her judgement is never clouded by anger or pride.
I think there was actually potential for Sarah being more good than evil cus when i saw the movie she seemed to be the more nicest and sweetest and kindest out of all the 3 sisters.
I truly believe if it were not for Winifred neither Sarah nor Mary would be evil.

Very fascinating! I'm just beginning experiments in working with the thoughtform of Sarah Sanderson, as an immensely powerful, well-known Witch that's more personable and open to Communion than Winifred or Mary. This Halloween will be an intriguing night.

I looked through the comments but no time to read them all. I sat in as Sarah this year bc my neighbors "Sarah" dropped out altho she didnt lend me the dress so we didnt win the contest. Oh well. But i did a bit of research & as far as back story, it seems they all have the same mother. Winnies father was a warlock. Marys father was a hound dog. Sarahs father was the village idiot. That expains a few things. Im sewing next years Sarah costume as we "speak".

in the beginning when they were all so old, that was their first attempt at the potion so how did sara live her entire life as a witch with a power that only works on children when they didn’t need a child until they were extremely old
If I had to guess, I would bet there were isolated incidents that led to the discovery of her power. This is where a prequel would come in handy.

It makes more sense for the younger sister Sarah to have had her powers bound.
Winney and Mary are at least 4-6 year's older.
And they mention their mother. I think they came from Halloween town when Halloween town shut itself off from our world. There are nods to them in Halloween town.
If the Halloween town witches got together and ejected the Sanderson's and made them less powerful to keep them from returning, it's possible Sara was bound and her sister's and mother as well.
Plus Winney and Mary aren't necessarily trying to become more powerful just trying to stay youthful and alive. It could be that Sara's power is only weakend while the other two live.
It also kinda explains 4th sister Elizabeth and the potential of Allison.
It's entirety possible that Elizabeth went against her sister's and raised Allison a white witch while explaining family history away with the museum and the legend of her infamous sisters knowing Sara at some point will come into her own power's and eventually beat Winney and Mary.
Just guesses as the lore is spotty though.
I really hope we get to here a solo from Sarah in the 2nd movie. X
In this deleted extended scene thing on you tube, Sarah Jessica Parker said the Sanderson sisters had different fathers and hers was the village idiot…however like Sarah this might have been someone who was completely overlooked and just labelled as an idiot. 😉👍
fun info for you. i don't know if you know this or not but in a directors cut its explained that winnies dad is a warlock, marys is a blood hound, and Sarah's father is the village idiot. it makes so much sense, sarah really could be the strongest, she just cant realize that power because of her IQ and manipulation of her older sisters. if the Sandson sisters are gone for good and there magic is gone then why is Billy still Alive so to speak. and the book at the end it wakes up isn't that book ment to wake up when Winnie is around. plus there are theory that Alison is descendant from a good witch hence why the Explosion happened when she used salt against the Sandson witches.

This is an awesome video! I think your theory is right but I was thinking today about the whole bulky and Sara thing. I think Winnie cast a curse on Sara to make her seem like an air head after what happened with billy because she had a vengeful streak. Notice how in the lines she has her speech is very simple. That would also explain why your theory could work about her being powerful....they made it in to a. Ok?!😱

All of my fears have been laid to rest with Billy Butcherson. The news and footage coming out are reassuring me that this movie will be as campy and practical as the first.

The reason why I think Winifred is the strongest, is because, unlike Sarah, she actually has the brain to use magic to her maximum level. However, I do believe Sarah to have the highest achievable strength, if she actually had the brain and mentor to learn and do so. But again, the fact that Sarah tends to not pay attention in many situations, is a bit of an airhead and she gets controlled by winifred makes it so she can't reach her highest potential.
Curious tho
Potion batch 1 all 3 added bites of their tongue. Batch 2 only winifred adds her tongue bite. Would the potion work for the sisters? Also when max downs the potion neither Mary nor Sarah seem in a hurry to rush to winifred

I would absolutely love in the sequel for Sarah and Mary too get a redemption as I watched Hocus Pocus I also saw Sarah and Mary but mainly Sarah get treated poorly and I believe Winnie treats them poorly mainly do too the fact there mother also treated Mary and Sarah badly and ofc towards the ending and the final show down Mary and Sarah betray Winnie and there mother as revenge for how they treated them

I belive Wiinifred to be a great leader with her wit and charm but The4thSandersonSister your theory could be very possible since I have seen what you explain and put out in the open, in the film myself (especially with a behind the scenes and cut video). Plus I know I'll get hate for this but yes, Sarah's dad might be the village idiot as they say but I've thought of Mary more of the kiss arse and idiot myself rather than Sarah. So, my lineup for leadership should be Winifred, Sarah then Mary and lineup for power could be Sarah, Winifred then Mary :)

I actually hope we get 3 prequels on each sister I think they’ll do oldest too youngest but tbh the order doesn’t matter that much my theory is this Winnies mother was a witch obviously but her father was a wizard so that would explain her witchy powers Sarah and Mary I don’t think there full witches while they have witch powers like smelling children and a hypnotic voice I believe there half humans half witches which I think is why we actually never see Sarah and Mary use the book since Winnie is a full witch she technically knows how too use the book and since there mother was a witch and Mary and Sarah’s fathers were humans logically that’d make them both hybrids of a half witch half human hybrids but hey thats interesting

@@The4thSandersonSister plz respect my opinion on how I believe both Mary and Sarah are hybrids because I’ve noticed this Mary and Sarah NEVER use the book by themselves while they can easily over power Winnie also noticed that when ever Mary smells children she ends up smelling food that could indicate her power isn’t that powerful and even notice on why Winnie covered Sarah’s mouth while she is using her hypnotic voice power because in normal movies or shows Hybrids are known too be more powerful Which also explains that Winnies jealousy of possibility Sarah’s looks but mostly her power Bc I also believe Winnie is also jealous of Mary’s power which I wouldn’t be surprised because she’s jealous of everything and what explains with Winnie being a full blood witch also explains her lighting power and I believe Mary and Sarah were pretty young Winnie was a instant one I believe both Mary and Sarah were 11 12 or early teens when there magic showed up that’s my opinion on what I believe of the origin of there magic and why I believe Sarah and Mary are hybrids

I guess when your theory is hypothetical and based in conjecture and hyperbole, anything goes.
The movie gives little enough information that conjecture based on observation is entirely logical.
Hocus Pocus is the best movie and Sarah does use that voice as you say use on children and as you say she could use it on Winifred and mary. but saying that my voice isn't that high but doesn't mean I could be a siren myself coming from a wolf
Winifred is obviously the most powerful of the three. She has the most active power and the myth says the book was a present for her personally. She is the one who makes potions and simply Mary assist her. This is the reason why Sarah lures the children alone, because the others make the potion. The 3 sisters have powers to find (Mary) lure (Sarah) and make/give potion (Winifred) to children. Also Sarah's siren voice has power only on children and not on adults. When Winifred stopped Sarah from singing she did it in order to talk to Dani. Not because she was afraid of the song. For serious things Winifred and Mary work more together, not with their "idiotic" sister. They don't even take seriously what Sarah says, even if it's right sometimes, because in general she is not bright.. They all 3 cast the spell to Binx but Winifred chanted the main words.
I actually have the perfect idea for the end of hocus pocus 2 what if at the end Sarah decides she don’t want to be evil anymore so she uses her magic to over power winifred and saves the children and in return she is cured from being a witch by god.
That would be very cool!

Also something to add to the theory, when they all do the chant spell to turn Binx into a cat, nothing happens to him until Sarah singing the last word.
Great point.. she and mary were chanting in between every phrase that winnie said , that must have helped .
Something I've always thought about more likely is Sarah having more jealousy than resentment for Winnie in the beginning as maybe she didn't quite understand her powers or the fact that she was coming into them because of Winnie already sensing her magic and suppressing her magic so that she could keep the spotlight on her. So Winnie being vain as they were younger likely not only saw her as a threat because of her magic but her competing beauty at the time. I feel like Winnie and Billy had been courting and of course when meeting the other members of the family as the times would have made it, he eventually saw the beauty of the younger more hidden sister who was "in training " and wasn't seen as valid due to her training being to lacking under Winnie to carry the Sanderson name yet. Upon seeing Sarah he likely paid some attention to her and her not receiving praise from her family and being young likely more susceptible to falling in love with the first guy to pay her any attention, hence becoming "boy crazy" and wanting to be with Billy. I believe that if winnie believes she came on to her perhaps it wasn't necessarily her but her sirens hypnotic voice and natural ability for singing, dancing, and high magical energy. If Winnie is constantly bringing this guy around that she's courting but fancy her sister he's going to most likely as most men do look at her and peek in on her at times and that means its possible for him to come in during her dancing and singing like a nympth as she did even til the day she died. He would then be enthralled by her even more possibly to the point of them well... Doing the dead and obviously getting caught... Sarah wouldn't have rejected those advances being young, naive and thinking "oh so this is love? " and he would obviously be drifting away from Winnie in favor of Sarah and a spell and chemistry that would carry even in death. Wouldn't that mean though that he is the proof of her magic being capable of being used on the sisters/adults? I dunno I've been speculating for years but lemme know if this makes sense or is just me reading to much into the mannerisms of 3 characters.
I feel like Winnie cast a love spell on Billy, but it dissapated when Billy genuinely fell in love with Sarah.
