    We are really well served by three wonderful youtube channels all modelling essentially the same period of pre-privatisation. Over at Everard Junction Richard is a master at instruction. His videos are brilliantly shot and incredibly informative - I now have coach lighting and soon a rake of closely coupled wagons. Dave at Dean Park has a fantastic eye for detail, and that station canopy - wow. But Terry mate, you are an artist, nothing more to be said.

      @bloodmarine77  9 років тому

      mattoxic Well thank you very much, i don't know what to say to that.
      But both Richard and Dave's layout are bloody brilliant and i take a lot of inspiration from both layouts and know both of them very well and they are top blokes. The internet is a wonderful thing as it's nice to share and compare with others and i dare say if it was not for youtube and RMWEB my layout would not be anywhere near as good as it is right now.

    Hi mate,
    I had a class 14 and I used (if I remember correctly) Hattons own 8 pin decoder. For me it worked absolutely fine. It ran smoothly over both insulfrog and electro points. Others may disagree but it worked really well for me.
    Great video, keep them coming chief!

    Excellent, I look at loads of different model railway related videos on UA-cam and yes sure there are other tutorials on how others do it and achieve great results but the way you do your scenery is certainly unique, you have a real 'eye' for what looks natural etc, I will look forward to seeing your tutorial videos!
    Howard.

      Howard Sugars Thanks for the comment Howard...i do have an eye for detail and i always look at the smaller detail in real life and try to add to the layout as it is this that makes it more realistic.

    Fantastic work Terry. The older locos are looking far better now the weathering has been toned down.
    The wagons shorting out could be two things.
    The wheels could be out of gauge causing them to move to much in pointwork and touch areas they shouldn't. A back to back gauge should sort that.
    If not that it could be the steering axles doing the same thing. Hornby let the wheels turn slightly on those wagons. See if you can lock them straight on one wagon and give it a test.
    Hope that helps, keep up the good work.

    Hi Terry, another great update and all the new work looks incredible! Definitely up to your usual very high standards. I don't know how you seem to get the atmosphere so right? Lots of great layouts on here but for me yours really does capture the moment so well, I don't know what it is but if you could bottle it.... As the saying goes!
    Two quick points, I have the same teddy, I used a digitrax decoder with no problems, I didn't actually realise there was an issue! Lol and your rake of HAAs, mine on a rake of 25 only one did that! I think however it was the oldest one and probably most worn self steer allowing it to touch on points where it shouldn't, this morning I have just tried it again with some blue tack to lock the self steer out and it worked fine! This seems to support some of the comments on here?
    Can't wait to see the photo shoot, if he's a decent photographer I think your layout will look world class!!
    Keep up the good work, Tim.

    • @bloodmarine77
      @bloodmarine77  9 років тому

      BR Blues Thanks for the comment Tim...it's nice to know that people like what i do and drives me to do better. A digitrax decoder it shall be then if it works well in your Teddy mate. The issue with the HAA's does seem to be down to what everyone is saying here on youtube so i will get round to fixing them this weekend hopefully.
      The guy who is doing the shoot is very well know and is apparently the best in the business plus it is going in the best mag on the shelf in my opinion so lets hope it does Glebe Rd some justice lol.

    I really like the uneven ground between the tracks. The locos you've re-weathered at the start look amazingly realistic. If the wheel are not insulated, they would short the track anywhere it would seem. The Teddy looks great too. Rob

    The tunnel where fire engine is needs depth maybe put the engine in the tunnel and put sound in be good as it would echo. Love the under bridge bus stop makes u think the layout continues maybe put a removable scenic wall benind or make the road have a slipway to the fiddle yard with Sercurity fencing and barrier gate.

    Hi Terry, great update. The layout is looking fantastic. Your scenic areas look excellent as always. Is there any possibility of doing a future tutorial video on the techniques and materials you use? I'm also interested in how you weather your track, it looks very realistic. • @bloodmarine77
      @bloodmarine77  9 років тому

      Matthew Snowden You have to do it bit by bit. put the glue down first then add the scatter material then hoover off the excess and wait for it to dry then add the next layer.

    Hi,
    Very nice update and excellent work to your layout. With regards to your sorting problem, if it was the wheels/axles I would have thought it would happen as soon as you put them on any part of the track.
    Is it only when going over the points, is it the same set of points or all points? What type of Frog do you have, if electrofrog-points and it is the same points every time do they have rail joiners?
    If they are not shorting on a piece of straight track I would have thought you do not have a continuity problem on the wheels/axles.
    Just another thought, when they short on a point is it only one direction or both?

    • @bloodmarine77
      @bloodmarine77  9 років тому

      Simon Young I think it is the back to back with the wheels plus the bogies swivel slightly which i have been told causes the issue so i just need to glue them into place and hopefully that fixes the issue.

  • @Billy_The_Dog
    @Billy_The_Dog 9 років тому

    If the issue is what I think it is, then you are obviously using insul-frog points. I was having the same problem with my N gauge Peco points, and it has something to do with the spacing between the to inside rails on the top end of the frog. Essentially what I found was that the insulator had worn slightly, and the gap between the rails, was close enough that when the wheels passed over, they were touching both rails for a moment, just enough to short out the electrics. Basically if it is what I think it is, then you basically have turned you points into 'rudimentry electro-frog' points.

    • @bloodmarine77
      @bloodmarine77  9 років тому

      Netherfield Junction Oh really...that sound like what is causing the issue. Would it be easier and cheaper to just replace the wheels and axles?

    • @Billy_The_Dog
      @Billy_The_Dog 9 років тому

      If it is the same problem as me, then replacing the wheels didn't help, because the gap was so small that one wheel was able to bridge the gap. if it is particular points that are causing the problem, they may need replacing, or some way to increase that gap.

    A common mistake is going overboard with weathering, id just do very light weathering people tend to forget most modern trains have a gloss finish

      Brighton Junction It's from a company called "LCUT"...it is a laser cut kit and you can find it on the internet for around £12. It's a very good kit too.

    Get a faller fire kit and add the smoke and fire LEDs in it could make realistic water and run from the hose pip to fire.
    Lastly the whole of that road looksn2 clean in real life there be lifter about business clutter graffiti on walls bus stop. And have lighting(yellow orange ones ) I. The bridge tunnels. Plus br bridge IDs. Higher restriction on the bridge. And the roads would have troughs in where the bus has stopped and lorries waited
