It's people like you who help in so many ways! I'm 32 years old and have never understood Guitar…I tried but I just couldn't do it. At least I thought I couldn't. I was in a cover band with 5 guys and they were a bunch of jerks. I said I wanted to be more than just a pretty face singer and that I was going to learn guitar and play on stage along with them for shows but the Guitarist told me I would only mess things up. So I went home and told myself no more giving up because now I felt something to prove. It's been about 3/4 months and I've devoted spending hours a day watching videos and practicing. Despite the hurt fingers! I got past that…But because of your generosity sharing your knowledge and talent along with other Guitarists, I'm so much further a head and things are making sense now. I will be on my way to playing on stage ALONE very soon here. I am a subscriber and without a doubt I will continue to watch your videos! Thank you from Las Vegas!
+Mark TheGuitarGuy Complete gratitude here, as I'm sure the rest of the viewers feel the same. I actually really enjoy this 6/8 strum pattern, it's really pretty when you mix up the chords within it as you said. Thanks for reply and I will enjoy every chord!! :)
God bless you, Mark. I am a beginner and with thousands of teachers around here in YT I am grateful I found you. God bless you for sharing your GIFT. Hats off to you.
I wish you had given us an example of the Celtic strum in a song, like maybe "The House Of The Rising Sun" or some other song you can sing. Anyway, thanks a lot. This is very very helpful.
As a soundman for 30+ yrs,I just recently purchased my first guitar and amp. These lessons are great. My friends are impressed by how quickly I have picked up technique. Thanks Mark
Thats very kind and good to know. I initially was more concerned with the actual strumming part, assuming people would just use whatever chords they liked. But I will include that in further lessons when it's appropriate my friend :)
I'll be doing a session on beginners fingerstyle, covering the main patterns, nd hopefully that'll help out a lot of people. Loving the comments and appreciate you taking the time to say:)
Hey man, I've been using youtube to learn guitar for 3 years it'll be in january. you rock man. you rock. seriously. this is the best freaking channel. just keep going. keep going.
They are what I call the 'Dave Mathews' chords that he uses in 'Crash'. It's from an original of mine called 'Once in a Lifetime'. The chords are all open E with a moving base note. E/G#, A, C#m, B, E/G#, A, B, B, ...I'll do a lesson on the actual song and its chords I think. Such pretty little chords.
WOW! Thank you Mark for sharing what you know about guitar. You have a great way of setting me at ease. I am a beginner and in my mid 60's but have been playing since January of this year and it's first of August. Hardest part so far is relaxing my strumming wrist so I really sound very hard and not smooth. But I will keep working on it and watching your videos. Again thank you for sharing and giving your time to teaching.
the best thing about videos are they are short and precise. unlike many others, you get straight to the point and stay on track. ALL of your videos are very informative, not boring, amazing and most importantly encouraging. thanks, the guitar guy. :) keep rocking, tic-tocking :p
Thank you for your demonstration. This is what I have been looking for. It's clear enough for someone who doesn't know the music theory or what the 6/8 exactly means.
Hi Mark, Greetings from Ireland. Thanks for the videos. Can you also mention in your lessons on strums etc which songs would benefit from the use of the pattern you are teaching. Thanks again.
thank u soo much to teaching this kind of things that using professional guitarists.. when i hear ur lessons i feel like now i can do this. guitar playing is like and meditation , and with good teacher it's much better . thank u again to giving us this kind of such a great lessons ..
Great 'feedback' Richard...get it?.....feedback.......feedb....cos your a soundman?...cos...ah nevermind. You'd have some awesome experience already mate. Awesome.
Hi Mark!!! I stumbled upon you a few weeks ago and wanted you to know how much I absolutley LOVE your approach to teaching guitar. I have been trying to play on my own for the past 2 years with little success. You have taken it to the next level for me!! YAY!!! I don't know if you already do this somewhere but could you consider giving a list of a few songs to try and play after teaching a specific strum pattern??? THANK YOU!! Kim
I love that little riff thing you done at 3.43/3:44, what were the chords for that little bit, infact, what were the chords for the little tune from 3:37 to 3:45. Great tutorial by the way. Thanks.
Learning 'Dear John' - Taylor Swift, and just couldn't work out the 6/8 strumming pattern, thank you so much for this video! You've helped a new guitarist towards playing his first song, and I'm sure many to come!
They are what I call 'guitarry chords' hehe... they are more suited to the tuning and setup of a guitar, so certain strings ring throughout. I'll do a series on them soon my friend.
Mark: great instruction and videos. Would you be willing to do a little more expanded instruction on the 6/8 strum timing? I like the Jeremy Camp songs and a lot of those are in the 6/9 world and i need help. Thanks. New subscriber in Charlotte, NC.
Great Stuff Mark... Just started learning guitar... I'm 31 wanted to learn all my life just stopped with the excuses. Thank you so much for these strumming videos. Really useful. :)
Hi mark! Could you do a series on contemporary finger picking? And also which chords go well together with each key you're playing in. These lessons are extremely useful! Thank you
Try leaving the previous bar a little earlier. e.g. If you strummed the above pattern D dudu D dudu. You should leave the chord on this bar here D dudu D du(du). Let me know if this is what you're after :) Happy strumming
Thanks a ton. I've been writing in predominately 4/4 my whole music career (19 years) and have always been afraid of alternate timings. This cleared things up quite nicely. You have a very nice teaching style. I've "Liked" and will subscribe. Hoping you have some tutorials of even more obscure time signatures. Cheers, from Texas USA
Mark,,Amazing videos. Thanks so much for the help.I have a request, if possible can you please write in the chords when you strum a particular pattern. Say how many times and what chords need to be played. I'm a beginner and when you strum its amazing and I want to replicate it and practice it by playing the exact same chords.
It's very normal for this to happen. It takes a little time, but just adjust the pick whilst playing. Don't worry too much about it. Over time, your technique will sort it out and it'll be fine.
Thanks Mark. I really feel there is a way forward for me. I've had some very weird teachers. One guy kept on changing the rhythm by throwing in an extra strum every now and then. I couldn't understand why I was out of beat until I pointed that out to him, but he said it doesn't matter, it's part of creating your own "feel".

Thanks Mark I appreciate that! For sure I'll be checking that video out. Right on!
I love your comment!
Brilliant Nielle, I hope you're getting on well. I have given up twice due to jerky or just plain incompetent teachers. Finding Mark is a huge relief.
i think the guitarist was threatened by you learning!
God bless you, Mark. I am a beginner and with thousands of teachers around here in YT I am grateful I found you. God bless you for sharing your GIFT. Hats off to you.
Easy. Thanks for watching them my friend. Have you tried this pattern out yet?
I wish you had given us an example of the Celtic strum in a song, like maybe "The House Of The Rising Sun" or some other song you can sing. Anyway, thanks a lot. This is very very helpful.
So nice to hear mate.
As a soundman for 30+ yrs,I just recently purchased my first guitar and amp. These lessons are great. My friends are impressed by how quickly I have picked up technique. Thanks Mark
Will do, and also might be putting some cool song lessons up soon.
The 6/8 does work fine, well done. Also a slowly picked 4/4 picking pattern will work nicely for that song.
Mark, by far you have been the best guitar instructor. I am looking forward to enjoy every single training video of yours. Thank You.
Big praise indeed. Thankyou so much
There is a reason why no one dislikes your videos mate. You are doing a great job!
Thats very kind and good to know. I initially was more concerned with the actual strumming part, assuming people would just use whatever chords they liked. But I will include that in further lessons when it's appropriate my friend :)
Thanks for the comment. I'll do my version of chords...that is chords for dummies hehe. In that I'll explain a little theory too.
I'll be doing a session on beginners fingerstyle, covering the main patterns, nd hopefully that'll help out a lot of people. Loving the comments and appreciate you taking the time to say:)

Thank you for your demonstration. This is what I have been looking for. It's clear enough for someone who doesn't know the music theory or what the 6/8 exactly means.
