Celery makes for good bone breaks and Lettuce ripping makes for good flesh tearing. Punch a steak or slap it for "meaty" whollops.

Personally, I’ve heard that breaking bone makes a good celery breaking sound myself.

Bell peppers are also exceptionally useful, I've seen in recording sessions for the sounds of torn flesh. Walnuts being cracked also helps with bones.

It's always fun learning about SFX. I remember watching a BTS of an animated movie when I was a kid, there were two people on a sound stage with a small crate of just random objects and toys. That was their tools for SFX. Blew my mind as a kid.

A lot of the impact and explosion sound effects for Halo 3 were just Bungie staff members destroying the original xbox's they used to test builds of Halo 2.
Warthogs crashing into solid objects was an xbox being smashed with a sledgehammer, for example.

This man can make anything entertaining. HOW!? Hoot should do a whole series where he just narrates some legendary figure doing mundane chores. Imagine the Emperor of Mankind changing a diaper or Captain Piccard doing something with his dress uniform, shinning boots or whatever.

Reminds me of Project Zomboid, as that game hired a studio to help them come up with all of their sound effects for the game.
It's a small thing, but having lots of custom sound effects can be really immersive.

@@Hoot Indeed, I think they started using sound effects the studio "Noise Works" sometime after Feb 25th 2021 (that's when they made the announcement, but I doubt it started immediately). I'd link the announcement, but last time I did that it got rid of my comment. (Should be easy enough to find though).
Anyway, no prob on the tip. Keep up the great work.

The art foley and sound design something ive been fascinated with ever since qatching those little behind the scenes featurettes on the SW Republic Commandos game.
When I saw how creative they got with making certain sounds that appeared in game, it blew mind. It's like finding out that the iconic blaster sounds from Star Wars are just a dude hitting a piece of thick steelwire with a hammer or finding out that the hydraulic sound of Forerunner doors opening in Halo are just some dude recording the hydraulic pumps on his hatchback.

In the Star Wars game: Republic Commando, they had a little 'behind the scenes' area of the game with videos about how they did certain things.
One of the techniques showcased was using two halves of a pineapple and tapping them on the ground, fruity side down, to make the squishy footstep sounds for the Geonosians.
