- 🌟How I Made a Bed Slide Out that adds more space and function to our van🌟
I designed and built this rear DIY bed slide-out that gives the van more room and adds dual purpose to the area in the back of the van.
This video details the steps I used to custom build this bed slide out. It is intended for those viewers that are interested in how I built this really cool DIY slide out unit.

Nice work, and good designing - a lot of thought and planning went into this, and I like it. Would love to see the video on the extra slide out - yes!
Thank you very much!
You are awsome ✨ I hope I will have a chance to build similar, even by my own 💃😎
Thanks for the kind words!
You definitely have a wide variety of skill sets. Impressive. How are you automating the slides? I have a disabled child that is wheelchair bound and I’m looking for ideals on lift access for a van. I like your van I would need wider walk ways. I’m thinking of building a camper on the back of a 3/4 or 1 ton diesel. I would like to utilize your slide method. Do you have any issues with the cabinet slides just being held on with small screws?
Thanks for the compliment. I'm afraid the slide out would be a poor option as far as ADA compliance goes. It adds a 5" step up on the floor. The slide is powered by a 12V linear actuator. The screws on the slides are stainless #10 x 1.5" and I have no problem with them. Since the slide out is a cantilevered design, most of the load is on rollers and not the slides. I would seek out an accredited wheel chair lift for safety reasons and hope you are able to find a good solution.
Superb engineering! Would love to know your cost and man hours
A build like this one costs about $90K including the ~1200 hrs labor. Add to that 51K to 85K for a new Promaster depending on features (I got my Promaster 2500 new in 2020 for 45K).

Have you tired 60/40 extruded aluminum verses wood. This is much thinner and improved strength
Excuse tried…
I've used a lot of profiles in the past. I just didn't want to give up an arm or leg at the time. I had to pick my battles with what was reasonably available at the time. 🙂
I've worked with a lot of different extrusions over the years. Back when I built this, I had to pick my battles between what was available and what I could afford.🙂
