Wow, thank you! That is very nice of you to say. I just hope my video helps people have a smoother time learning this great game. Thanks for supporting the channel and checking out the playthrough!
Great video. I believe there's a small rules goof in the setup for cycle 2. You ADD additional cards (as depicted on the setup card) to the alert deck leftover from the previous cycle instead of recreating the alert deck from scratch. In your case you would add 3 level ones, 2 level twos and 1 war card to the 2 leftover level one cards for a total of 5/2/1 cards.
Game looks amazing, but this is definitely a life style game that you leave out for some time once it’s set up. Great stream so far. Love all you do Shaggy.
Absolutely! I would set it up at night and then play the following day. I basically left it on the table for 3 weeks straight. Now that I know what I'm doing, I could set it up faster, but it is still a lot. The game actually plays relatively quickly for what it is. There are just a lot of little bits to sort out. I really appreciate the compliment, thank you. I totally understand what say about setup and teardown. These things affect how often we can table a game, it can hurt our enjoyment when we do play, and it makes sense that it would affect your ranking of a game. I'll admit it doesn't factor into the equation for me as much as for you and probably the majority of others. I'm less bothered by those things when I feel like they are necessary to get the experience. Or rather the experience kind of overwhelms the annoyance and renders it moot in my mind. Similarly, when considering my favorite restaurant, I don't factor in the length of drive to get there. But I understand why some people would. I'm also very excited to try Apiary and Plum Island Horror (I just ordered that one!) Thanks so much for commenting and watching and supporting the channel for such a long time. Have a wonderful day!

@@TotallyTabled I played through the tutorial so now just have to get the hang of the solo mode. Thanks for the advice, I loved the tutorial tho so I think I can breathe easy! thanks again.
Yeah, setup is tough, It gets better with experience and careful packing. And it is nice to set it up at night and then play the next day. That has really helped me. Thanks for watching!
Thanks so much for saying that. I have not tried Septima yet, but I did punch it out one night and it looks beautiful. I love the art and the production seems amazing. I was surprised by how much was in there because I was under the impression it was a simpler, smaller design, but now I'm not so sure. Have you tried it? Thanks for watching the playthrough!
I have played it at 2 to learn the game. The production is amazing, the game play was solid, matching was fun. Not played enough to have formed an opinion yet. I’ve not played it solo yet either. There is a lot in the box! Thanks again for your videos, 👌.
Thanks for the playthrough. I really would like to invest in this game based on your recommendation, as I have picked many medium weight solo games after watching your tutorials and found them immensely enjoyable. This one just seems too much cognitive load to be manageable for me, although I do envy those who are able to pick it up as I like everything about it, from the theme to the mechanics. Maybe I should set myself a goal of learning to play it in a week. 😅
Great video! Have been considering getting this as my 1st heavy game & you really made this game approachable. Will be watching this again when I get it to help learn it. How long did it take you to learn? Thanks!!!
It is a big learn, although hopefully the playthrough will help ease that learning curve. I went through the tutorial which introduces the rules in steps. I then learned the solo rules and played a learning game of that. Then a full solo game. After that I felt like I had a firm grip on the rules and my future games went very smoothly. So true learning took many hours stretched over days. But when I learn games I only use the rulebook and avoid videos, so I don't pick up wrong information for my own video. Some people have expressed that the learning curve wasn't as bad for them, so maybe it was just me. But if this is your first heavy game, be prepared for a slow, painful first few plays. Be patient and stick with it and eventually everything will just click into place. Thanks so much for checking out the video and I hope you have fun with Voidfall!
Awesome video as usual! Quick question, why didn’t you use the trade token you already had to do the third action on a focus card instead of getting discarding at 18:15 ?
Great video as one has come to expect from a super content creator. Was just wondering, on your first turn, knowing you would be getting the 2nd trade token, why the 3rd action on the card was not worth spending your original trade token on? Fantastic, Looking forward to part 2.
Thanks for checking out the video. Glad you are enjoying it. I had a reason -- probably a cost I didn't want to spend because I needed it for something else, but I really cannot remember at this time. I did think about it and decided against it, so I had a reason at the time. Thanks for watching!
I hope the video turned out well, Andy! Part two will hopefully be out tomorrow or the next day. I still have some editing to do. Thanks for checking it out!
Holy crap it never occurred to me to use the darker colored dial pegs on the science dials since those are darker colored (presumably because it's the only resource that isn't able to be substituted with credits?). I thought the game came with one too few dark pegs for the influence trackers (needed 12, had 11) so I just used darker pegs for all but one dial on one of the influence trackers. And all my resource dials use the lighter pegs. I assumed the different colored pegs that there were fewer of were for the different component that needed fewer pegs. Yours look so much more aesthetic lol. Probably won't bother to change them out though.
Ha, I hate when I do stuff like that, and it happens often. I've constructed things backwards and thrown away bits I wasn't supposed to... The worst is when I film it and put it up on the channel. I'm still hearing about how I used the wrong side of the Ark Nova board because I never thought to turn it over. :) Luckily your mistake doesn't affect the game. Thanks so much for checking out the video and I hope you enjoy the game!
Hi! Amazing playthrough! I have a question, if you will win in the skirmish, the void power still attack you? I remember in rulebook it only attack sectors it will win or tie, otherwise no skirmish happen. Is it right?
i was going to avoid this one because i am hitting my cap on massive complicated board games but i think you've got me flipping, i can get a kickstarter copy for relatively cheap
Don't go by me, since I have no cap on massive, complicated games it would seem. This one takes more work than most, but I'm firmly in the camp of "worth it." But these kinds of tolerances are very personal. I predict this is another Mage Knight, Spirit Island, and Gloomhaven. I think this one is going to stand the test of time. But I'm historically bad at predicting these things. Thanks for watching!
@@TotallyTabled ha that's kind of what i want to hear... i'm in deep in lacerda solos, i have a 4 handed gloomhaven campaign ongoing and i play my fair share of mage knight so its probably going to happen
@@Sem5626 Wow, four handed Gloomhaven! My brain definitely couldn't handle that. I'm good with keeping track of a lot for one character, but when I need to bifurcate my mind for multiple characters, I quickly lose track of things, mix everything up, and the mental fatigue sets in. It is why I don't two-hand my playthroughs on the channel. And that is part of my struggle with solo Spirit Island -- one spirit feels a bit empty, and two spirits breaks my brain. Two players solves this dilemma, so I rarely take it out for solo play. Man, I got on a tangent there. Sorry. Four character Gloomhaven sounds fun if you can handle it. Have a good one!
Ha, I'm currently editing my Voidfall first impressions video for tomorrow where I say this exactly -- like word for word. The title is going to be "The next Mage Knight." Great minds think like alike!
Thanks! If you are talking about the agenda board, then those slots are for corruption tokens. If you mean the four slots above the tech cards, those are just extra slots for more tech cards -- but in this play we only needed 8 and space was at a premium so I moved it out of frame. Thanks for watching!
Thanks for the playthrough! I am still on the fence whether to get this game or not....everyone mentions the setup time, is it really that bad? As in, do you think setup time gets better overtime as your experience with the game grows?
It does get better a little bit, but it is still on the long side, even when compared to other heavy games. I like to set it up at night in order to play the next day. Thanks!
@@TotallyTabled Thanks for the reply! I eventually decided on getting Frostpunk first instead, after seeing your glowing reviews on it! Love your channel and your content is amazing :D
Just wondering if just getting the retail version with no extra stuff makes sense? I suffer from a lot of FOMO. Even though I do recognize that most games, especially BIG epic games will not hit the table that often. I guess what I'm asking is if I'll miss out on anything that's not just adding variety...?
I personally wouldn't hesitate at all getting the retail edition. The minis are unnecessary. The only thing I would miss is the triple layered tiles, but even that isn't a big deal. But there are no gameplay differences -- you are getting the exact same game content as far as I know. Thanks for watching!
Hegemony solo is so much more intimidating to film than Voidfall. I've rarely been so afraid to try something. I'm not going to lie -- it isn't happening soon. :) Thanks for watching!
@@adityam7866 Ah, I haven't looked into it that deeply, so I don't know much about the simple AI system. Maybe I'll have to dig in deeper. Is it worth playing that way, or do you miss out on too much? The game as a whole seems difficult to make work solo, which is part of my hesitation. Thanks!
@@TotallyTabled i found that it does a pretty decent job. What you mainly lose out on are the dynamic priority part that I’ve only ever seen in this AI system which tries to mimic another player observing the board state. Otherwise the simple AI is like any card based automa and is pretty quick to resolve. I reckon even running multiple simple automas isn’t too bad, just takes a little longer to get back to your turn is all but having such a dynamic board state seems awesome with the middle class added. I actually found running Alfred in Darwin’s Journey initially more confusing than the simple AIs in hegemony funnily enough.
For solo I prefer Voidfall and for multiplayer I would rather play Anachrony (although I have not played Voidfall multiplayer, so I can't say for sure which I think plays better). Also keep in mind I've played a lot of multiplayer Anachrony and only a few games of solo Anachrony, so that could be part of my bias. Both are excellent, of course. I would recommend both. But Voidfall has really blown me away with its card action system and the crisis board and the planning involved. Thanks for watching!
I've heard about an expansion planned for 2025, but I'd imagine they would do something before then. Not sure. Retail copies should be available, I think. The music is Tropic by Public Memory. All the music on my channel is just the free stuff that UA-cam has in their archives. Thanks for watching, Peter!
Is it just me or did you set up the Home and Standard Sectors swapped. Cause you stated #2 was for the home sector yet you set that up on the standard sector, and #1 was standard and you set that up for home.
All the plastic is lovely and all, but honestly the retail edition with (I believe) dual-layer cardboard ships would still be amazing and so much less fiddly. I'm sure a lot of people would even prefer to not have to deal with the plastic ships, placing them on the stands, carefully putting the cubes into the base, etc. This is not a game that needs the bling to stand out. Thanks for watching!
Actually my main concern is more the absence of dual layer map tiles. There seems to be a lot of things stacking on it. Probably that and the insert 😂 I have seen that we can get the faction/house board layered on latest kickstarter so I am leaning between just waiting for a potential new galactic box or maybe backing the extra stuff and forgetting about the map tiles
Ah, I didn't realize the retail lacked the dual layer map tiles. Hmmmm. Those are useful, but they only hold the die, guilds and installations... It might be fine without them. Not sure.
I will update for those interested because I did a game on galactic tiles, and I did ended buying retail on your call 😂. Also note that there was an announcement for a kickstarter voidfall expansion starting Q1/Q2 2025. May have galactic boxes!
It is very busy on the table with a ton going on, absolutely. It will not be to everyone's tastes. But it is all beautifully done and manageable once you have a little experience. Thanks for watching!
That's understandable. I will say, setup becomes easier once you have several games under your belt. And, the gameplay itself is surprisingly fast for a heavy Euro. The ratio of setup to gameplay is a bit skewed. But also, it is much quicker to reset the same scenario and play again, maybe changing the difficulty or running it with a different house and different tech. If you have a table that you can leave it up, that helps a lot. Thanks for watching!
I love your tutorial but in this case for this game, I haven't even understood the purpose or the final objective! Absolutely too complicated and incomprehensible.
In general you want to expand, eliminate the Voidborn, clear up corruption, deal with threats, build up your infrastructure with guilds and population, advance your tech, and gain agendas that will score you points each round. Ultimately the Voidborn will score points for various things at the end of the game and you'd like to limit those points and score more points to beat them. But I wouldn't focus too much on that. This is a civ game and you just want to do all the good civ stuff. Thanks for watching!

I'm glad you like the video! Thanks for checking it out. And I agree, it is an amazing game.
@@TotallyTabled sure! And how scared I am to have to teach someone how to play! ha ha
I don't think I've ever gotten so many points in the first cycle!
Neither have I. I'm afraid I've done something wrong, but so far nobody has called me out. No asterisk yet. Fingers crossed!
@@TotallyTabled
As far as I know, except for the remaining alert cards, the rest has been all correct
Well dang, now I gotta look at getting a new game, lol. Loving it so far, Shaggy.
Thanks! I'm glad you are enjoying the playthrough!
Ok FINE I'll play Voidfall solo tonight again (can't get enough of this game, it's fantastic)
Totally agree. I was sad to take it off my filming table where it has been set up for weeks. Won't be long before I set it up on my main table. I'm itching to try more of the scenarios. Thanks for watching!
Oh Shaggy I just got back from UK Games Expo and I have voidfall in my living room. Your videos tempted me! Always great vids. Let’s see if i can get this played!!!!!
I really hope you enjoy it. Be patient. It eventually all clicks into place. If you are struggling, I recommend checking out the digital implementation here: voidfall-33a59.web.app/. It might help solidify the rules. Good luck!
@@TotallyTabled I played through the tutorial so now just have to get the hang of the solo mode. Thanks for the advice, I loved the tutorial tho so I think I can breathe easy! thanks again.
Loving this game so much but setup is soooo rough. It's such an incredible game though! Thanks for this awesome video.
Yeah, setup is tough, It gets better with experience and careful packing. And it is nice to set it up at night and then play the next day. That has really helped me. Thanks for watching!
Shaggy stop working this hard!
Ha, I am definitely going to take a small break after this one. I forget how long it takes to edit these heavy games. I hope you enjoy the video!
Definitly deserve to! I always enjoy your videos, even if I dont like the game@@TotallyTabled
@@stormburns That is nice to hear. Thanks!
Wow. You are the master of the play and teach. Your videos are fantastic.
Have you tried Septima?
Many thanks.
Yep, I should have. Thanks for watching!
@TotallyTabled ok just wanted to make sure I want missing anything. Thanks again for the super pro video!!
Time to enter the void ✨
I hope the video turned out well, Andy! Part two will hopefully be out tomorrow or the next day. I still have some editing to do. Thanks for checking it out!
Thanks for this.
I thought you got something for returning a trade token. Or is that a specific tech?
Is it right?
i was going to avoid this one because i am hitting my cap on massive complicated board games
but i think you've got me flipping, i can get a kickstarter copy for relatively cheap
@@TotallyTabled ha that's kind of what i want to hear... i'm in deep in lacerda solos, i have a 4 handed gloomhaven campaign ongoing and i play my fair share of mage knight
so its probably going to happen
I get a feeling this game will go up there amongst Mage Knight and Spirit Island as a top solo game.
Ha, I'm currently editing my Voidfall first impressions video for tomorrow where I say this exactly -- like word for word. The title is going to be "The next Mage Knight." Great minds think like alike!
Amazing video! Thank you! I have a maybe dumb question: what are the 4 free slots of the technology board for? Thank you!!
Thanks! If you are talking about the agenda board, then those slots are for corruption tokens. If you mean the four slots above the tech cards, those are just extra slots for more tech cards -- but in this play we only needed 8 and space was at a premium so I moved it out of frame. Thanks for watching!
@@TotallyTabled oh, thank you! I simply thought there were always 8 tech cards available. Then I suppose there are scenarios with more! Best regards!
Yep, that's right. Have a great day!
@@TotallyTabled have a great day as well! And please continue with such cool videos!
Thanks for this behemoth. Maybe you can do a Hegemony solo soon? 😂
Hegemony solo is so much more intimidating to film than Voidfall. I've rarely been so afraid to try something. I'm not going to lie -- it isn't happening soon. :) Thanks for watching!
@@TotallyTabled the simple ai is much more manageable actually. The advanced one… not so much
@@adityam7866 Ah, I haven't looked into it that deeply, so I don't know much about the simple AI system.
Voidfall vs Anachrony
Which is better?
For solo I prefer Voidfall and for multiplayer I would rather play Anachrony (although I have not played Voidfall multiplayer, so I can't say for sure which I think plays better). Also keep in mind I've played a lot of multiplayer Anachrony and only a few games of solo Anachrony, so that could be part of my bias. Both are excellent, of course. I would recommend both. But Voidfall has really blown me away with its card action system and the crisis board and the planning involved. Thanks for watching!
The FOMO is real. Any idea when a reprint is gonna happen? Also, what's that music track in the beginning of your video?
I've heard about an expansion planned for 2025, but I'd imagine they would do something before then. Not sure. Retail copies should be available, I think. The music is Tropic by Public Memory. All the music on my channel is just the free stuff that UA-cam has in their archives. Thanks for watching, Peter!
Okay I'm now sure it's not for me. 😅 But anyway, I enjoyed watching your playthrough, thanks for the video ^_^
That's awesome! I'm glad you enjoyed the playthrough and learned the game wasn't for you. Thanks for watching!
Is it just me or did you set up the Home and Standard Sectors swapped. Cause you stated #2 was for the home sector yet you set that up on the standard sector, and #1 was standard and you set that up for home.
I just labeled them wrong. I set up the game correctly. Thanks for watching.
@@TotallyTabled just wanted to get it right. This game is a beast to learn. Thanks!
@@section8entertainment961 Indeed. Learning is rough and takes patience with this one. Totally worth it in the end. Good luck and have fun!
Damn, if only galactic box was not 600e on secondary market
It’s too busy for me.
It is very busy on the table with a ton going on, absolutely. It will not be to everyone's tastes. But it is all beautifully done and manageable once you have a little experience. Thanks for watching!
The setup of this game, just by itself, is a massive turnoff for me. Which is a shame, because it does look excellent.
