Im an Albertan from the east coast (NB) and I'm fiercely proud of my welding certification I earned while working in Alberta and my contribution to the oilpatch. Oil and gas is in my blood along with the beauty of the east coast.
I saw them in a gymnasium in Halifax where they opened for Mathew Good. They were so awesome. The next time I saw them was at the Commodore in Vancouver and they really blew the place up. So loud!! Gordie Johnson you are one of the coolest Canadian guitar gods ever.
I've seen Big Sugar many times in London,Ontario & Windsor,Ontario & usually with 54-40 or the Tea Party & every time they put on an absolute kick ass show!
BluesFest in Windsor 1990. They heard Gordie's amplifiers in Detroit. True story. Just saw them last week in Lloydminster Sk. My ears are still ringing.
Sadly it has been "All hell for a basement" in Alberta since 2015 with the election of the NDP Provincially and Blackface/Sock Puppet Trudeau Federally.Getting ANY pipeline is a joke and the gutting of the price of oil dealt even more damage.Alberta has been the economic driving engine for Canada for decades and we just keep getting fucked over.
I have a autographed big sugar hemi vision cd signed by gordie Johnson And Gary Lowe signed the cd itself my friend Chris found it at talize I'm keeping it forever I seen big sugar live in belleville Ontario east zwicks park 2010 they were awesome I enjoyed them being loud
I've also seen Gordie's other band Grady which is a kick ass band! I seen them once in London,Ontario at a small club called "Norma Jeans"which is a cool place to see bands,I also seen a very underrated band there called "Thornley"led by founder & lead singer & lead guitarist Ian Thornley.Ian use to play in another kick ass band called "Big Wreck".
I wish more Canadians would support bands like this. They are awesome. April Wine had great songs and were played arround the world but somehow didn't even get reccognized for it. They still play small gigs for a living.
First time I saw them they opened for Mellissa Etheridge (Ashley McIssac couldn't open that night) "500 pounds" era. Still one of the best oppening acts I have ever seen (although Government Mule oppening for Big Sugar was pretty awesome too...)
Rudyard Kiipling used the words "all hell for a basement' to describe Lethbridge, Alberta. Big Sugar's Gord put the phrase to a raunchy guitar hook and a Canadian classic tune is born.
@AGMusicandVideos Kelly is your cousin, eh? He's a very fine musician and integral to the Big Sugar sound. When I saw the first video with Kelly's blonde hair with no glasses or pork pie hat, I thought they got rid of him until I realized he just changed his look. I remember the first time I saw Big Sugar was back in 1992 when they opened for Arc Angels in St. Catharines. Give me regards to him the next time you see him Cheers, Jody
I love this song it reminds me of my son posted to Cold Lake🇨🇦 Lol he is not lost or in hell but still reminds me of him and my military sons and daughters, eyes right🤚

@ 1:31.... that guitar drop-in tone is perfection.
Gordie and Kelly Hoppe did an acoustic set the other day at the Pub I work at. The Black Dog in Bayfield Ontario, only 40 tickets or so. Amazing show.
OMG!!!!!! I WOULD HAVE LOST MY MIND!!!!
I thought that's what it was about. Great song !

He is from Medicine Hat, All hell for a basement.
“From” is a bit of a stretch. He lived there for one year, his final year of school.
Rudyard Kiipling used the words "all hell for a basement' to describe Lethbridge, Alberta. Big Sugar's Gord put the phrase to a raunchy guitar hook and a Canadian classic tune is born.
Alberta is my beautiful 🗻 🏡
I never realized how hot the lead singer is.
The Gibson double-neck that Johnson is playing,is Alex Lifeson's guitar, years later Gordie return it to Alex.

If anybody is curious about the meaning of this song then please go visit the oil sands in Fort mac.
MARINO PACORI #AlbertaStrong
Nothing to do with Fort Mac. The song refers to Medicine Hat, which has a tremendous amount of Natural Gas reservoir under the city.
MARINO PACORI yeaaaa FORT MAC BABY!!!
Big Sugar should do a "pro pipeline" benefit concert at Burnaby Mountain
Rudyard Kipling referring to the vast underground oil reserves under Medicine Hat, Alberta.

all hell for abasement is about Medicine Hat Alta
it's actually about newfoundlanders . I heard Gordiae say that
Its about Newfoundlanders going to Alberta to work in the oil fields.
Its about a newfie that had to leave home for work.
