39:08 - 39:17 I freaking LOVE Beethoven's codas. And his music in general of course. Lieds, Opera, Sonata, String Quartet/Trio/Quintet and so on, I love it all. But this piece is one very dear to me. Along with String Quartet 1, 8, 13 and 16. I could go on and on with the list, but of his String Quartets, this is on my top 5 for sure. Also, cute cat - +Jamison Sanchez
"OP. 59 QUARTETS OPENED A NEW CHAPTER IN THE HISTORY OF CHAMBER MUSIC." Beethoven's Symphonies, An Artistic Vision, Lewis Lockwood, Norton, 2017, p. 82. "No one before Beethoven had opened a movement so idiosyncratically as he does the Scherzo of his F major Quartet, Op. 59, No. 1, with its four-bar phrase that is a fully intelligible and well-made musical sentence though it has only one pitch from beginning to the end - the low B flat on the cello." Same, p. 151. "The re-positioning of the slow movement (placed third, as opposed to the traditional second) allows Beethoven to forge an expressive bridge to the finale as the slow movement ends. Other examples include the 'Archduke Trio', Piano sonatas Opp. 106 and 110, and the Ninth Symphony." Same, p. 211. The cello solo at 37:01 has A (not A-flat) at the eighth bar in both the Breitkopf & Hartel edition [Dover] and the Eulenberg edition; however, it is always played as A-flat for a smoother transition to the minor mode.
Playing this as first piece with a new group of musician I've met. Wish me good luck the first violin part is fiendishly difficult, I'd rather take any of the Paganini caprices over this
Zack Wyvern it's incredible. They take the first movement at a brisker pace than other performances I've heard. Again, like the Archduke piano trio, Beethoven opens this piece with a striding, stately, march-like, classically inspired theme. But what he does with the material in the lengthy development section is quite far removed from orthodox classical-period procedure.
25:51 Turns out that in the newest edition from Barenreiter (based on the Original Manuscript sometimes the closest source) has that last note as a Db:ua-cam.com/video/Bg_TGLTgxV8/v-deo.html
The same trick goes for the scherzo. Most of us hear the first three notes of the violin theme as an anacrusis when it comes back but on the first beat.
Just discovered this mastepiece. It's the whole day I hear it again and again. And all this thanks to a book... And it's wonderful to follow the partiture!
They thought he was playing a joke on them, the musicians who first performed it that is. The joke is on them. Today, it just sounds like a solid middle-period Beethoven composition. Wonderful stuff!
This is a wonderful quartet. I love the Scherzo. The finely balanced craftmanship of the form is thoroughly Beethovenian but the second theme sounds strikingly like Schubert (also a bit Chopinesque) in my opinion. All in all it must have hit the contemporaries as an unbeliavably modern piece of music.
I love Two Set as well! But I also love watching Beethoven videos and seeing the comments about people's favorite parts of the piece, people's interpretations, etc. -- but all the Two Set comments are drowning those out! :(
J ai entendu qualifier les passages avec peu de notes du premier mouvement de Webern-iens ; même si on n est pas d accord ,ça me semble une excellente remarque .
I love when someone hears a piece of Beethoven’s and they ask “this is Beethoven?” Just goes to show you how diverse his music is or how little of his music people know.
Cory Fields his music is incredibly diverse, even within the time period they were written. At one extreme in the middle period there's the Eroica symphony, and Symphonies 5, 6 and 7, and the Appassionata sonata: very forward looking pieces rich in Romantic rhetoric. At the other extreme are Classically inspired pieces like the trio op. 70, no. 2 or the 8th Symphony. The only common denominator within all middle period Beethoven is that it's great!
If you cleanse your ears after queen I don't know if you can survive beyonce and all that modern trash. Not saying Queen is particularly good, but it's better than 99% of other pop music. And in any case it's of course worlds below Beethoven.
00:00 Allegro
10:04 Allegretto vivace e sempre scherzando
18:19 Adagio molto e mesto
31:38 Thème Russe: Allegro
This is Takacs Quartet playing. I did comparison with other UA-cam video and exact match.
Are you sure? That's crazy...but a lot of substitutive stuff on youtube
Two set recommendation

Ok
My mother sent me
But we wanted you
If you are a TwoSetter you would know that Eddy wants us to listen to this. Gorgeous piece!😊
GO PRACTICE! I searched for it right away and boom! Glitters to my ears 💕
Nothing compares to the beauty of classical music. Nothing will ever take the place of this perfection!🎻❤
If you are talking about the String Quartet video it’s actually the 4th not the 7th
This is like one of the best recordings of this quartet i could ever find

25:40 and the phrases following. Beautiful beyond my consciousness can express...
Those phrases are probably my favorite bars of music ever composed.
4:03 pure magic
I don't think I've ever heard anything in Beethoven quite like that scherzo.
Im here for the 3rd movement because of Rubinstein, this is a masterpiece
This is the brilliant Takacs Quartet, isn't it. It sounds a bit muted, but thanks for uploading the full thing like this, and with score.
Zack Wyvern it's incredible. They take the first movement at a brisker pace than other performances I've heard.

the 2nd movement is so rhythmically confusing when you see the score while hearing it
its hard to explain, but its so confusing...
0:26 that staccato resonating is so good

Thanks for the info. Do you mean at 25:23? It does sound better with the Db in my opinion.
00:00 : Allegro en fa majeur
01:26 : second thème en do majeur
02:29 : développement
03:35 : Contrastes (registre et nuances) 'passage webernesque'
04:02 : solo du premier violon sur accompagnement choral
04:39 : passage fugué
06:18 : réexposition
10:04 : Scherzo en sib majeur
12:00 2nd thème 'verdi'
13:21 développement
19:19 : Adagio en fa mineur
31:10 : transition avec le quatrième mouvement
31:38 : Thème russe Allegro en fa majeur
32:22 : 2e thème en do majeur
35:02 : Développement
36:20 : Réexposition
Thanks a lot. It helps greatly.
Excelente. No tengo palabras para describir lo buena que es ésta interpretación.
31:39 fun fact at the theme russe most of us treat the downbeat as the upbeat and its so hard to feel the downbeat as the downbeat
The same trick goes for the scherzo. Most of us hear the first three notes of the violin theme as an anacrusis when it comes back but on the first beat.
ala mierda q temon

It has a very special place in my heart ❤
21:26 such a gorgeous moment
Came here from TwoSet! Did not regret it.
I got this in my freaking mock exam, I am so grateful to TwoSet

which quartet is playing it? Gorgeous rendition
Una meraviglia assoluta. Grandissimo quartetto ormai proiettato verso lidi sconosciuti.
Maravilloso
Obviously these amazing performers are too insignificant to be worth naming.
Absolutely adore this quartet!
The first Razumovsky..astonishing
Beginning reminds me of Jupiter by Holst.
*so. BEAUTIFUL! ☺☺☺☺*
Supreme String Quartet, very beautiful and delightful.
In Op.59 this is my favorite.
I wish I could know who the players are...
Pretty sure it's takacks sq

Am I mistaken or is there not a single pizzicato used throughout the piece?
Yes, you are mistaken.

Wonderful performance and recording. The only criticism is that viola is about 1dB too loud in the mix and doesn’t balance very well in some passages.
This is Beethoven? Does not sound much like him but I can dig it. This piece is really good.
i know right???
All middle-period Beethoven is magnificent, particularly the string quartets and piano sonatas.

I heard this on the radio today, my guesses were Mendehlssohn or Schubert.
Thank you Eddy from two set
Cleansed my ears after listening to Bohemian rhapsody
