To be fair, one of the earlier recorded versions of the Red Cap/Riding Hood story has a werewolf as the antagonist who serves the grandmother's flesh and blood to the girl.
It's really sad that male sexuality/puberty almost always has to be portrayed in a negative/horrific manner. :( In my opinion, it's a beautiful, exciting, and anticipatory time of life, but this movie showed it to be one of ugliness and horror, where men become monsters. :( I somewhat liked this scene and the fireplace transformation, but only in terms of the hair/muscle growth, not the screaming and skin rippage. :( I know many people like this movie for its symbolism and stuff, but most of it went completely over my head or just grossed me out. *sighs sadly*
What part of "use it wisely" did you not understand?!?
Terrence Stamp is Toby Dammit. The devil is a little white-haired girl....this is a tribute to Fellini's wonderful film of Poe stories....
He was becoming a werewolf.
look at at his mouth when he says NOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!
It's "Pirelli's Miracle Elixir" it'll put hair on your chest alright! ; )
Some view puberty itself as a transformation.
:Sees the branches/vines wrap around his legs: Oh GOD! It's the angry molesting trees from "Evil Dead"!

i feel drawn to watch these movies like they have me in a trance
A friend of mine has this movie.
Kneel before Zod.
Excellent movie! Very cult.
Catherine Hardwicke is remaking this as REd Riding Hood, albeit with no credit whatsoever to Neil Jordan and the original writer.

My wife apparently got a bottle of the same stuff, even Dr. ********** said, jeez, add a couple of hairs to her and you would have a bear.

To be fair, a lot a female puberty symbolism like in Red Riding Hood revolves around getting a period (aka the most PAINFUL time of the month)
