"and I actually put forward this view in Language, Truth, and Logic, and now it seems desperately implausible to me....."....I got to hear Ayer in the 1980s. He was sharp, funny, self-deprecating, and ...full of stories. He knew Russell, Carnap, he'd been persecuted (more or less) by Austin...he was a great guy. After lecture, we tipped a few pints. And smoked....I can't believe he lived as long as he did the way he smoked. But a thorough gentleman, and, despite what some might say, a true philosopher. I got him into a discussion about Kant's ethics, and, despite the pints, he was interested, focused, and thoughtful. I was sad when I read about his death.
I TOTALLY LOVE YOUR CHANEL MR FLAME0430!!!!!NEEDLESS TO SAY HOW MUCH OF A HELP CAN BE HEARING A PHILOSOPHER TALK,WHEN YOU ALREADY KNOW THE WAY HE THINKS FROM HIS BOOKS.TEHY COMPLEMENT EACH OTHER.THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!
Sure, without the statement of an individual's gender, we can't assume that said three year old is, indeed, a man and thus we cannot assume that this infant is a bachelor or bachelorette or an unmarried person (if there, in fact, no gender).
@Stygian9 So true. Also, they tend to focuse on what cool stuff science can do. Like mythbusters. And "Awesome Machines" and whatever shit Discovery spits out of it's rotten mouth.

A. J. Ayer gives a clear, balanced synopsis of logical positivism. A very well-spoken man.
Oh god... it's so good.
would love this in 1080p
@djs259 Yes, he also confided to me, his friend, that he saw a flying spaghetti monster which will render all his previous books and opinions null.

What a great man.
He never got over missing that penalty when he played for Leeds Utd against Sunderland in the FA cup.
Philosophy was his only comfort after that.
tautology: All bachelors are unmarried men. It's a typical example. Can b found in many philosophy books. Hope they can initiate a new one.
I love the prosody of Ayer...
'... a very important STIMULUS!!! to them...' :D
5:18 Magee knows my mind
That's not a tautology though because "A 3 year old cannot be an unmarried man" != "A 3 year old cannot be a bachelor"
Ayer gets excited. It's cute.

damn, im too dumb to understand
more tautology ....
Did he die of cancer, because by the time he did this documentary there was empirical verifiable evidence that smoking caused a variety of cancers.
