This 3000 played to Jakob's strength (the 1500/mile). Similar to 2004 Athens 5000m.

His strategy is clear now. Move with the pack for a while, take the lead and then wind it up from a long way out. Those that stay with him for most of the way are shed in the final 400 m. A thing of beauty.
It's amazing to watch isn't it! Not outkicking them, just outlasting them! A true test of running strength.

The stronger the field, the faster he will take the lead and try to grind them out. In weaker fields he knows he will have more energy at the end and he can even outkick pretty fast gyus just because he has more left in the tank. That being said, Jakob is faster than he is given credit for - he has never trained specifically to be fast, but as a youngster he did do a 60m in just over 7sec and he has a decent 800m without training for it.
