Just bought this watch...it's December of 2019.... and as of writing this, this watch still goes for $200 on average. yup, that's more than the Gear 3.

Gear S is an " Easy to handle watch " and works very well with My
Note 4. The only problem is, that the battery has a to low capacity.
Repurchased a Gear S after thinking my Apple Watch had retired the first one I sold. This was a nice video to watch to get reacquainted with the Gear S.

I'm amazed how quickly and accurately I can write text messages using the Swype function on the tiny keyboard. This watch really is a fantastic piece of kit.

Hey excellent video,need yr help or advice,i know this old model i have a gear frontier i like to know if this model would still work with all updated tech today i have a Samsung s21 btw ,i ssk cause this is still eay cooler then my one i have n if it will work can I only use Bluetooth connection to use i don't want another line or psy extra sim money will i be able to use it with everything as long as I connect by Bluetooth sorry so much but can't find any info that tells me this question i greatly appreciated any help, David thank you

Good info but...Do you answer comments? You are not using the smart watch while wearing it? User experience is completely different with one hand, which was one of the reasons I would want this smart watch?
Can you use this watch without a carriers plan just using bluetooth through your phone, and still get all the features with this watch? Or do you HAVE to use this watch with a carrier plan?
I bluetooth it to my phone... and there are also times when I turn on wifi and connect to my network.
I have purchased a second Samsung Gear S because I like it so much. My old one is just over 1 year old and still working fine. The second one I have purchased came in a different language that I cant understand. I have managed to change it to English from going through the details on my old watch. Am I able to connect it to my Samsung Phone which is connected to the old watch or will that confuse my phone?
Good Review, however, you didn't mention on touch on INTERNET BROWSING/SURFING! I can go to the web independent of my phone on the gear S. Also, I can switch to wi-fi on the Gear S. Can the Apple surf the internet independent of iphone?

what all can you do on the watch without data plan can you still put wallpaper from phone onto the watch or you would have to use the watches clock fronts??
We're in 2018 and this is still the best smartwatch.

Hi Ricky , can you show us a video how to remove the apps from gear s . I am having the issue remove the app called " voice memo " was downloaded from gear manager Samsung apps store . I tried to remove the app. So i Went into gear manager setting under " manage application " , I don't see the apps was show. But the app was show and installed on my gear s . Do you have the same issue removing apps . I understand some of the factors apps you can't remove . Please Advise . Thanks very much . BTW . I had the first gear watch and I loved it but I thought it looked a bit ugly so I brought the gear 2 neo but found it didn't really work as well as the original gear so I thought fuck it il buy the gear s.....and i am really disappointed! ! You can't add things to calender such as events appointments ect anymore using s-voice which I think is ridiculous as all their previous watches can do this! And when ever I use s-voice to call someone it always rings the wrong person I mean it doesn't even get it nearly right! The battery life is awful as well! Honestly preferred my gear 2 neo to this gear s and don't even get me started on the whole sim card thing! Absolutely pointless if you ask me...

You can only get custom watch faces if you have a Samsung product I'm using an s5 and you have too install gear manager and then you can customize watch faces apps ect

It looks like you did not have active service when you were making this video (meaning no SIM card installed). Can you tell me which features of the phone do NOT work without having active service? I am interested in buying this watch for my Samsung phone but I am on a prepaid AT&T plan and cannot add a simple data line.
It works perfectly fine...I also use AT&T pre paid and have it connected to my s4 zoom and all features work as should..
Personally, I think the always on function is a waste of battery. They put the gyroscope in there for a reason. That's what allows the watch to light up when you make the motion of looking at a watch. Unless you're constantly watching the time and you have nothing better to do, it is a waste of battery.

Anyone thinking of getting this, be aware that the charger design is horrible. Those little plastic tabs that are suppose to snap into the watch do a great job of snapping off. I have have had two of them break in two months time each (4 months total) and Samsung does not seem to want to cover their poor design with the warranty. Look into this before you spend the money.
This true my sons and mine both broke. We use a medication bottle In the middle of it which holds it tight.

But does it run google maps by itself? Without the support from another device (phone)?
The thing I dislike about the battery pack is that you can't just keep it plugged in all the time or the battery gets ruined. So With my Gear 2 I just kept it plugged into the wall in the bathroom and clipped it on every night to charge. This one I can't do that for fear of destroying the pack which is kind of irritating.
That is actually a myth with older style batteries. The batteries they use now are smart and stop taking charge at a certain point.
oh really? I'd heard they were bringing out new technology to combat that, but I didn't know it was out. That's pretty neat.

Gear S can be used with any android 4.3 or higher.... I have my Gear paired with my HTC m8 few bugs we are still figuring out but most functions work

Are there digital clock options on this device? I like watches that I can read easily and digitally, partly because I am much too lazy to look at the hands and decipher what the time is.
You can install many additional clock faces from galaxy app store.
There is a face that comes loaded on it that i like that has a digital clock and then three spots for information under it. I like it because it has all my most important info is in one place.
Att told me I couldn't use it stand alone it says mm2 not supported and I pay 10.00 a month cab I circumvent att and set up my watch phone?

+XDragonFireX 97 True... this user obviously does not have a Gear S becasue we cannot charge the Gear S any other Way! The micro USB connector is ON the small powerbank charger ONLY and the LED power light turns red immediately upon connecting it to the watch to indicate that it alone is charging the device as you prepare to plug in the USB cable.. so James Festini could not have ever used a Gear S or he only used it for the 4 hours of power it has when one first unboxes the device.
+byram101 I have 2. But besides that I was referring to the fact that the base on its own was also a charger. I thought the mount was just a AV charger but when unplugged it was also an internal battery inside that price to supply even more juice on the go. Did you know that?

Yes, since it is small and easy to misplace, keep it in a zippered pocket in a briefcase or workbag and if your watch gets weak because it has been disconnected from the blue tooth link with your phone for an extended period of time and has been using a battery draining 3G connection of its own... the little charging dock will allow you to take the watch off for an hour and replenish the watch battery once while you are outside. I have used it on occasion for this reason and love the convenience of it! :-) Thanks for your great comments.

I don't own one of these, (although i wouldn't mind one ) , but the thought occurred to me , its a small screen for typing or swiping with fat clumsy fingers (like mine)............. and it would be cool if you could use an S pen off the galaxy note to operate the key board ,etc.
if it was possible maybe samsung could integrate a baby S pen into the band or something ...... or am i barking up the wrong tree ???
You can use your voice to text by holding down the space-bar until the mic button appears. Also, you can use S Voice.

I have big clumsy fingers too and I cant use the keyboard for shit but swiping is probably better than ya might think on the Galaxy Gear S.. I love mine and the voice to text / S Voice works great... The Galaxy is the most usable smartwatch that I have ever owned and I have had three different ones..
Just keep in mind.. You can go get one and simply return it within 14 days if you don't like it.

I love how you say how easy the keyboard swiping is, without actually trying it to type something you wanted to say. Simple fact is, it looks horrid to use. The whole UI looks horrible.

I have a gear 2,and that first got me hooked on the watch from Samsung. so of course I had to have this damn thing it takes connectivity to a whole new level but still comes up just a little damn short. they created this in a laboratory and never took it out for road testing.if you connect your watch to your phone vir bluetooth where are you supposed to connect the Bluetooth that you used to talk to? the only place to connect it is to the phone. now you are rocking down the highway having your ear piece connected to the phone you pull into the gas station to get some munchies you got that LG headset on your neck now the phone rings and you have to answer it on a speaker. because you were unable to connect to the watch via bluetooth in the car you were connected in your phone,what are you supposed to do when you jump out of the car pair your headset to your watch to go in the store. what the hell were they thinking?

You can. I've used my unlimited everything T-Mobile sim card from my Note 4 in my Gear S. If you already have T-Mobile service, you can add the watch on to your plan and it will just cost $5 per month. Well worth the cost.
No you can't take the Sim card out of the phone and put it in the watch. Only way you can is if you have a micro Sim card. Even then, it still might not work.
