Gear S was released in 2014, and it still is my main smartwatch. After this one all the other ones, despite having more functionalities and battery usage, seemed not that good. Samsung should launch this model again.
I'm like you Vernon I love this watch passionately and I wish Samsung would make a 2.0 of the gear s because it was so different and like you said you read a curve display so easy plus it had such a futuristic appearance about it and it's really really sad that they gotta away from this style and frame of a watch it had some much potential perhaps maybe as consumers we can demand that they bring back again. ( side note I was able to pair it with my 2022 phone and it works but some apps don't but like getting notifications absolutely it works you just gotta program it under the factory reset option).
Well you never know. But you can use the option of factory reset and yes you can get current notifications but not all the apps work that's on the watch work but some download apps still work you have to try and play around with it.
how did U paired this watch with 2022 phone ? Tried on my old S21FE and it says cant pair because phone is too new and last supported phones 2021 blah blah blad
It would be nice to have someone (or company) make an APK file that can work on newer phones to get it to sync with the newer phones. They made a great first one to get people hooked then made them cheaper (quality-wise), so they force you to pay more often for a newer watch.
I just rediscovered this and I still have an S9+ so I may have to get one. This is super ahead of its time, I wish they would have a newer version of this
This was a beautiful watch. I like the how the band seamlessly flowed into the watch. The Gear Fit2 was like that too. Why on earth do they not design them this way anymore? Nowadays, all we get are ugly smartwatches where the band abruptly meets the watch at a hinge, and the watch bulges out from the band like a child's Casio watch. I've looked, and there is not a single 3rd party band on the market for any modern smartwach that smoothly transitions into the watch like the Gear S did. It's like the world forgot how to make sleek looking smartwatch bands.

Fortunately, there are lots of good replacement options e.g. Huawei Watch Fit, various fit bands from Xiaomi and Huawei. I think it comes down to this: a rectangular watch with consistent HR/ECG measurement, and preferably with SPO2 and NFC pay option. Functionally, I don't get why round watches are predominant among smartwatches -- round is for rotary hands. Info screens need rectangles.
Has anyone ever been hacked through this? It's ten years old. No security updates. Just got s23 ultra and it found the watch but when syncing it threatened to wipe the watch. Holding off until i can backup before wiping.
You can still do the simcard and independent calls right basically using this as a standalone wrist watch? Or did they brick that function? It truly is a shame that they discontinued support for this man this is the best smartwatch ever.
The watches you had die on you...Were they plugged in to the computer? I noticed mine won't turn on unless I have power coming into the watch. That watchband looks incredible. I still rock this watch. That watch band alone almost costs as much as the watch itself (well, on eBay)
Vermont, i believe all you had to do was switch the battery. It happened to me so i switch the battery and im rocking it again. I hacked it as as a android watch but the nattery life is short.

There is a phenomenon with smartphones older ones that is That are literally dying. The internal components are decaying And even if the battery is replaced it will not bring the device back. Some are literally falling apart. Is this what's happening or is the battery dead. If the battery is dying, you will see a strange screen display that looks like it is broken however, if it sits for a while So that the battery gains enough power It should boot up normally But it will not last. My explanation is probably horrible and I do apologize. However, a battery replacement. Used to fix that problem. Just curious what you're experiences still debating on whether or not I should replace the battery. I really love that watch.

My all time favorite watch also. Mine still works, but my biggest problem was the charger constantly breaking. I was actually using it last year with my Note 20 Ultra because my Watch 5 was pissing me off. The bottom part of the watch broke off and now I can't clip the charger to it. Also, the charging pins are wearing off. Might get a back replacement from Ebay. Samsung gave up on this watch like they did the Note Edge.

I literally hate how these companies phase out products by limiting the device by stupid software updates my wife had the same experience with her older apple watch literally useless thanks to software ...super lame i swore i saw a instagram post about someone hacking the gear S with a apk that allows communication with current devices i could be wrong i have 1 thats in perfect shape i never wear bc this .. i also have a GW4 classic i refuse to do a software update on bc currently it still works with the galaxy wear app and my new S24 ultra .@vernonleewarren280

I used to have a gear s the thing was supposed to be a phone replacement it had a sim slot, i got a gear s3 classic and niw have a galaxy watch

I can't tell you much about the battery. The watch is very old. You may need to replace the battery, unless your able to get it brand new
