Its amazing how they blend cgi effects and the animation, if anime fans hear cgi its like their worst nightmare is getting them but with ufotable they made it not so noticeable and their fight scene animation (not just in demon slayer) is always dope. Its like they stole their animation budget in the bank

Props to the staff indeed, as budget has very little to do with the quality as I discuss near the end of the video, even when cgi is noticeable people dare not complain cuz even the most diehard 3d hater can't help but admit that it looks phenomenal

Dude i love to imagine how AOT sakuga scenes would look if ufotable did them. Since they blend 2d and 3d insanely well + the 2d animation over CGI models would work relly well in odm gear scenes.

I don't think it would look great because of the terrible schedule. Also their foreground CGI models are not so good
Mappa make 3d look like a 2d when Ufo has only good cgi background
They couldn't do csm, aot, dorohedoro
They didn't do this because only Mappa tried his best on AoT who nobody wanted to animate
So, in this hypothetical world where ufotable does the odm gear scenes ,you automatically assume they'd have a bad schedule.
Even if they did do it, only the backgrounds would be 3d , not anything in the foreground

My goodness ... This video was goood.
Ufotable knows how to maximize on all their talents to make a really good animated story. Where they fall short is typically hidden within the amazing cinematography, art direction and music. I think UBW was one of the first anime I watched other than weekly toonami shows when I was kid. It blew my mind and kind of ruined anime for me. It took a long time for me to watch shows like One Piece because I couldn't get over how insane ufotable animation was and didn't understand why other shows couldn't look like that. To put it in perspective Kara No Kyoukai Thanatos was released in 2006.... Compare that to anything else released in that year and just realize how absolutely hard ufotable popped off. Eventually, I was able to watch a lot more stuff without caring but I'm still chasing that feeling that I had when watching UBW for the first time.
I get what you mean, but watching fate definitely didn't affect my ability to watch other animes, for me it set a bar for what truly good and consistent animation looks like. Fate is still the best when it comes to that. It kinda made me appreciate animation alot more. But eventually you realise that ufotable themselves are just too goated and that other animes usually just can't compete. I can also relate when you say you're chasing that feeling of ubw again. I still haven't experienced that feeling of watching fate zero, ubw and heavens feel and just being shocked at how good the production quality was. Demon slayer comes pretty close. Some of mappas animes and the makoto shinkai movies are also close (emphasis on the shinkai movies those almost look real sometimes). I just can't get that same feeling tho. You should check out fate strange fake, the animation was pretty damn good for that.
@@HSSJ2 Yeah all good points. Thanks for the recommendation, I'll definitely check that out when I get home tonight! And yeah, MAPPA is definitely making bangers. You can always depend on MAPPA to bring heat.
And Demon Slayer is practically movie level animations every episode, so yeah I agree. There is definitely good stuff nowadays.
I haven't watched the video yet but here are my guesses about what you are gonna say
They mix in cg in a way which blends with the 2d characters pretty well by using it in background
Much like in demon slayer the show actually doesn't consist of much movement but they use some special effects to compensate for that
And finally
it makes some shorts stand out because of complex cgi camera motion

Yea, those are all points I mentioned, aside from those I also talked about the compositing in detail, the cgi human models that are drawn over and the actual work conditions, pretty spot on with stuff you did guess I'd talk about

While i do agree that their actual Animation (at least for DS) is not The best definitely (exept for nozomu abe Scenes) but they perfected their style and can create Really great (final product) looking anime and they also outdo themselves everytime because of healthy working environment

in short UFOTABLE is clever and MAPPA seems to be trying to replicate that.
Are you sure about that? MAPPA will take any work they can get and rush production compared to Ufutable who takes on only what they know can be delivered with their signature quality.

And here I am wandering seeing someone shitting on the animation of Ufotable. Also still they put budget in KNY that's bigger than a lot of anime films. It isn't to discredit the studio but it's a good thing every time because at least we get assumption that they have more resource that would at least help the animators not die from poor pay
Stop with this budget shit. Budget nothing has to do with it. Demon slayer season 1 actually had less budget than your average anime (i think it's the same for all seasons).
@@A1000-b9sI'm not clear enough but I meant comparing their films to other anime films. As they started to invest and participate in Kny even more close and it payed well , the Kny movies. My comment about budget was about salary not the skill. As I worked with an outsourcing company who do clean ups for Ufotable in Demon Slayer. But all the compositing was done by Ufotable in house , as mentioned in the video.
I think it’s because they don’t take millions of projects at the same time like mappa. I could be wrong tho.
Eh it's just because they don't overwork their animators so they're overflowing with passion
I understand that they get it right, but I never managed to like Fate, which is the anime that they are most praised, but when they decided to get Kimetsu I was able to dazzle the Staff a little maybe it's not even the best work by them, but it made me understand better the appeal of Uffotable.
Fate is hard to understand but it is a great anime

You called art direction and the department the same thing??? Or am i misunderstanding? Cuz art direction is making sure the background art stays consistent (extremely simplifed). and photography is compositing... i'm just curious if this is a little mistake or that my information isn't correct?

Its quite simple and half hour work
The truck is 3d and entire landscape is in 3d including lights and you know you can reflect light on product is not 3d or 2d or hybrid. Its completely 3d and it can enable by 1 toggle and took 30 mins to perfect it.

I have to disagree. To me I.G production is the one that does the best digital compositing in the industry and is pretty normal because they were the first in doing it.
I think Ufotable stuff looks really overdone to a point were a lot of the 2d fx detailed is lost. Nozomu Abe stuff looked better in Wizard Barristers.
I don't think Kara no Kyoukai feels overdone, it feels fitting but I respect ur opinion
but there is studios like bones and mappa better than ufo in direction and the most importante thing
