"A or H is a draw"
That's assuming that both me and my opponent know what we're doing. We don't.
This man has watched some "guess the ELO" episodes. Or been featured in some.
AH
my opponent knows what* he's doing and I don't 😔
It's true. Levy doesn't know about the bulldozer approach where your King bumrushes the enemy king and he runs away in terror.
Yeah I was hoping he showed how to defend against the A and H pawn.
Instructions unclear, my opponent got a queen
haha funny
That's not supposed to happen.

I’m loving these 30 second chess lessons. I know about Opposition but explaining it by saying “Don’t push while the king is looking at the pawn” is a really nifty shorthand for remembering the technique
A King personally escorting his pawn to protect them from the opposing King and promote them into a Queen would be such a good climax to a show

I love how cleanly Levi describes what could be complicated tactics
But this isn't complicated.
@@Najdorf_ what "could" be. There are far more complicated tactics than this, but for a beginner, any idea that looks 2-3 moves ahead is complicated.
I have a suspicion you're like botting..

You can't lose even on time if the opponent has nothing except his king, if be takes your pawn it's going to be a draw too instead of stalemate
@@blueslime5855 But you can lose if your opponent has the pawn and you let it through.

A and H wins if your king makes contact. King can stand behind the pawn and the king must avoid checks
Would be useful to teach triangle next! Or what is it..
Triangulation
I don’t think I would be able to win with just one queen and one king
Hi
Really ?
Legend says the pawn is still moving
The way i do is faster, my king just stand close to the pawn all moment and never goes in front of it
Stop giving my opponents tutorials
Why King and pawn side-by-side is a draw: Black king moves 3 squares away in opposition to the White king, or moves in front of the pawn if allowed. You can only force the Black king back by putting it in check with the pawn (Black king moves in front of the pawn, White king has to go behind the pawn, Black is forced back). This is all fine and dandy until you reach the 8th row, but now the Black King can't be forced back. When you check with the pawn on the 7th row and Black moves in front of it, White has to move behind the pawn to protect it, which results in stalemate. If White goes to any other square, Black takes the pawn.
Me who doesn’t know how to play chess 👁👄👁
a pawn and h pawn are not draws in
Levy! I hope you get well soon enough to cover World Rapid and Blitz after Christmas as well as your 2 million subscriber celebration!
I dont understand why the black king would just keep moving backwards staying a whole row away. This scenario only works when its 1 pawn against a king
Thats the point. It's as a technque that you can use in a very specific end-game scenario.
Levy, thank you!!! Extremely helpful.
Never take your king a single space away from your pawn. As long as they are in contact the other king can not capture. Easier
Yet they can force a stalemate if you're not careful
How is this the 4th notification I get from your channel the day after you say you're taking a break XD well wishes tho
They're all reuploads
Another reason why you need to keep your queen protected too

It's perfectly fine to push as long as it's one block away from the King.

Bruh the other king was in check so many times and you didn’t even notice one
So what?
The pawn is shy so the king has to stand infront 😂
They taught me this when I was 8 now I'm 13 and I'm tier 2 chess player
“That’s called Opposition”
More like asserting dominance.
A beutiful story of the king protecting his pawn, and then the pawn become the strongest piece in the game. THIS IS SOME ANIME PLOT RIGHT HERE
We can actually call this "mirroring oponnent's moves"
Hey I got your book how to win at chess it’s so good my win rate went from 57% to 94%
What if the King Looks at Your Pawn instead of going back after you outflank him?
Instructions unclear, the bishop on ED500 killed my queen.
If you play it right, you can promote a pawn on the side file.
the reason the black king doesn't draw blood at the end is because if he did he'd be in striking distance of your king, which would be check and you can't end a turn with king in check or you lose
My dumbass always thought that the pawn with the circular crown was the queen and the objective was to protect her from getting siezed
Why a/h is a draw: You can push the enemy king back to the 8th row, but you can't protect your pawn while also preventing stalemate if the king is in the corner.
You can actually push the pawn up twice in a row when black backed up, your king would be defending him from the diagonal. This gets you to the end 2 moves quicker, since your king only moves once up now and then when you queen yourself, the black king still has to backup into the corner since your white king has the diagonal coverage. But I get the point :p
The king won’t be able to move left because it can’t move into check
This is a Forty second chess lesson.I demand my money back.
This is as rare as seeing a bishop knight checkmate endgame. It never happened to me before but I'm going to wish I remember these lesson when it occurs
Im an 800 player and found this LEGIT. Nobody tells about these tricks in the lesson section
That’s actually a really good tip that could win you a lot of games
The way the king blinked at the pawn like "I'm watching you"
What happens if the black
King moves forward instead
Of backward
Some guys in my class know I play chess and they know 'that gotham guy'. This doesn't help me.
So wait, what if the king approaches the pawn from the side ?
When the other player does a different move:
actually A and H pawn sometimes isnt a draw, you can actually shoulder the enemy king's to stop him from capturing your pawn, this only works if the enemy king is far apart from the pawn
“A or H is a draw”
The pawns in A and H:”AH”
If you get a queen but the king is 1 square away, he gets your queen....
As long as the pawn is one next to the king it can't die
A or H pawns are draws because you can’t “flank” the other king
opposition is funny. You know what's funnier? calling your lawyer over the chess match and going OBJECTION instead.
I taught scholastic chess for years. I like the wording and illustration to enhance learning. Opposition and out-flanking, in this position, is critical to winning and not losing 1/2 point.
Bro that lesson was clean af, more like this if you can!
Note:this won't work if the distance between king and pawn is only 1 square
not necessarily draw. if the king just decides to move to the opposite corner then I guess it would work
This is so easy first do you have to put the palm on the other team and then you have to choose queen because there’s queen Bishop rock at night that means you get a free queen if you already have a queen and if you get one more queen you have two more queens I’m good at chess also my class teacher told me about this in chess
👇
you do know you can just defend the pawn with your king right?
Because your opponent has a king and you are not allowed to check yourself which technically means he can't kill your pawn.
A or h is only draw if the opposing king is ahead of the pawn not behind them
Interesting, I've taught king and pawn endgames before, but I didn't think of the whole "if the enemy king is in front of the pawn, you take the opposition". It's a good tip, especially for young kids.
id prefer rook cause I'd draw it if it's a queen 💀💀💀
I think Jeremy Silman's 'The Amateur's mind' talks about opposition in decent details. Great book for beginners.
What if the king sees your pawn? Stock fish level 8 won't let you do this.
Levy is such a great instructor. He entertains while teaching. We all had that one teach in high school lol
Opposition? More like, winning the position!😂
Having a or h pawn only if the opponent reach to control key squares .
What do you do if the king moves back? Do you push?
Move your king forward. If their king keeps retreating, chase it to the edge of the board.
Be careful when pushing your pawn. If it ends up anywhere further forward than one rank behind your king, and your opponent's king can immediately take the opposition, it's usually a draw. Your king generally needs to be a good distance ahead of your pawn.
so im assuming A and H is a draw because if they go to the left, you cant go to the right
Aw, the King is protecting the Pawn from the enemy😊
What if the black king pushes towards the pawn without facing it after you flank your king?
What happens if the opposing king doesn’t face the lawn again?
you push the pawn forward
