MTV "Singled Out" (90's Game Show) - Late January, 1996

- From my VHS recordings: Here is a recording of "MTV's Singled Out" (with commercial breaks included). "Singled Out" was a game show that aired for a few years in the mid-90's, it was basically MTV's version of "The Dating Game". And yes, that's Jenny McCarthy as the co-host for the program.
This show focused on 18 to 21 year-olds, which was the age range I was in back in 1996. As I watch this now, I have to say, our fashion trends back then...don't hold up very well. And now, all of the kids in this episode are in their early to mid 40's.
On a sidenote, the diaper commercial (and the pregnancy test commercial) in the middle of the first commercial break feel really out of place, on MTV...
Anyone else early to mid 30's having MAJOR nostalgia moments watching this? Wow the time has flown!
Me!!
Yes! I’m 40 though! I graduated high school in 96
Me!!! 33 & I can remember watching this late at night, than Beavis and Butthead comes on Than Aeon Flux!! The good ole MTV!!
Yes it has. Now I'm sad :-(
36 here and the nostalgia is real.
I can’t believe I found this. I’m actually the guy in the final round who had to wear the dress and runway model. Such a great night and good memory. I was a sophomore in college. So long ago. Katrina actually became and still is a pretty successful music artist.
It looks like it was a lot of fun. Do you remember when this was filmed? Some time in 1995 I take it, I'm just curious when. I was a freshman in college in 1996.
@@Theonetruewonderfly Yeah it was actually filmed in December of 1995. Aired just a few weeks later.
Did all of the 50 single women and 50 single men have a great time on the show?
Awwwesomee
That's awesome!
I remember watching this as a 12 year old, sneaking MTV late at night, thinking that this was what really cool people looked like.
wysoft Same 😂😂
Yes! Same.
wysoft ikr me too lol
Hahaha yup im 33 I would sneak and watch this than Beavis and Butthead and Aeon Flux after.
🙋🏾♂️ me too
People were WAAAY more confident, present and authentic back then...
I like the transition in commercials from Molson to baby wipes to pregnancy kits to gum
Let's say the progression should have been Molson-Gum-Kit-wipes...
@@donp55 Right! And then back to Molson! Lmfao
Only time I like watching commercials is the olds ones like this. Times have definitely changed.
There’s no way I would have the balls to be on this show. I’m so shy and scary and quiet and I have always been scared of women mainly talking to a girl.
Not nearly as funny as Pepto Bismol following a taco bell commercial
I even Watch the Commercials , Dam it felt GOOD to be back in the 90's 💙
Yes it did it was such a special time and the music that came from that era man
@@joshuamackey2326Everything! Cars, movies, music, pop culture... so awesome.
I love that this included commercials too! Major flashbacks to my childhood!
Yes never was so excited to watch commercials lol.
MTV in the 90’s was the shit.
Beavis and Butthead, Aeon Flux, the Head, the Maxx etc.
And best of all: Actual Music Video's!
Amen brother!
Remember liquid television?
The State and 120 Minutes
Forreal
I miss all these shows... I miss the 90s 😔😔
They just remade this show 5 weeks ago. Just type in Singled Out into youtube.
Me too
90s was the best. I'm blessed to have such good memories from the 90s era..
My big sister and I used to watch this together. We lost her to COVID-19 April 2020.. I wish she could see this!!!!!
I'm so sorry.
So sorry for your lost 😢🙏🏼
All us 30 plus year olds wish we had taped all our favorite shows in the 90s WITH the commercials right about now. Just the Winterfresh gum commercial itself unlocked a memory... it's 98 degrees inside your mouth...major nostalgia
Tv was so different
Back when tv was watchable and entertaining.
I’m mad that mtv didn’t play videos of a man and woman close up naked taking a shit in 1080P full ultra high definition with great audio.
everything looks so much more fun in the 90s
It was!
It wasn't really. People who were kids or young adults will say "it was!", because they were young and carefree and clouded by nostalgia. If you're Gen Z - I'm sorry. Your generation has been burdened with a lot of angst because the internet exists and you're not allowed to forget anything, and all the good stuff from the past is readily available, looking better than it actually was.
But I will give you this: Life was definitely happier when Twitter and Facebook did not exist.
@@Taumpy that was a weak argument. It was better because today is shit. Free mind and more creative than todays influence by Social Media.
@@mcat2317 literally every generation says “it was better because today is shit”. Don’t you remember Boomers saying this same shit in the 90s about how great the 60s were?
Quite frankly I prefer having things cell phones and laparoscopic surgery to the 90s
But I’m not so blinded by nostalgia that I’m being a dumbass. Half of the UA-cam comments are dummies who have that particular problem.
@@Taumpy its just an opinion. You sound overly hostile and angry for no reason? I don't think anyone can state as a fact that one decade is better than another. Personally, I do feel the world has gotten worse, less social and more divided in multiple ways the last 5 -10 years. That's obvious to anyone who has a brain. Sure you can download an entire album in under 30 seconds, facetime someone thousands of miles away but that's not enough to make modern day better. That's superficial shit. We're more connected digitally, yet somehow more separated. Only thing I'll give it is the medical advances we've made. Not everyone is neccesarily blinded by nostalgia either, my parents are "boomers" who grew up in the 60s an 70s and seemingly miss the 90s more than I do. And they were obviously working adults with responsibilities. Of course a lot of people have a fondness for and feel that their childhood was the best, that's normal. But in my opinion while no decade was perfect or without flaws, the 70s(and I wasn't alive for them but going off what I know) to the early to mid 00s were better and more simple in many ways when compared to today. The 90s just happened to be the last great decade. Something started changing after 9/11 and its been getting worse since. And I've heard this same sentiment from many others of varying ages. Of course all this is personal opinion and I have many reasons as to why I feel this that have nothing to do with nostalgia but I digress...you just sound overly bitchy calling ppl who don't share your sentiments, "dumbass " which just makes you sound like a jackass. Did you not expect to find people nostalgic or longing for simpler times on a 20something year old video?
The best thing about watching these clips is seeing the commercials from this period of time. It brings you right back to such an amazing time
The camera work on commercials in the 90's was hilarious. Just all over the place 😆
Wauw, I never thought about this, but you are right. It's like a drunken sailor shot that shampoo commercial 🤣
I’m just lucky to have lived it. I’m 39 and had the best childhood. Thanks to the 90s
I miss dating shows like this
showbizonastick oh grow up
@showbizonastick Ok zoomer
I'm having flashbacks! the 90's were awesome!! 😂😜
It's shocking how much has changed in 26 years. The 90s really were a better time in most respects. People weren't so uptight compared to today.
Boy Meets World brought me here. I’m so glad I missed the whole MTV reality tv. Seven year old me was very smart in 1996.
Isa beau This was more of a Game Show than a reality show.
Isa beau really? You were smart? around what age did you turn into an idiot?
I was around the same age
Boy Meets World brought me here too! I must have been just barely too young to know this show was out back then.
Same lol. I'm binge watching BMW now lol
I’m living for the commercials. I miss the 90s.
Both the contestants look pretty unhappy with their winnings. Lol
what happens when you leave to chance right?
Lol right? I mean I always thought they don’t really go out, it’s just a show . Who knows? 😅
So many memories! I can't believe I remember these commercials so well!
Me too!!
Me too!
Was that Vin diesel voice in beer with the worl commercial
MTv used to air reruns of Singled Out on Christmas Eve. Great times being 10 and doing Christmas with my dead grandparents and aunts and uncles and watching this show. I wish I could go back.
These dudes are some goofs
Dude I remember that pringles commercial and I am still that last guy eating a half can stack at a time. Also Chris Hardwick is strait rocking that Leonardo DiCaprio haircut. As soon as time travel is finished I’m blowing all my money going straight back to this shiz. Frick saving humanity. I just wanna stay up late watching 90s tv and raiding the dunkaroos one more time❤️
bro im not one for cringe because this is my era but i was audibly saying no and stop when these guys were giving this girl kisses
Online dating sucks !!
Watching this makes me happy 😊
Wow 1996 i was 15 when this came out 90s were truly awesome !
I was 1😂
I didn't even exist
I was 19 years old.
"You and her and mom would be awesome" LMAOOOOOO 😂 Chris's subtle comments have me wilding
blink, I’m 46
I love how they included the commercials it really shows how great of a time this was to be alive
Dude I was in my early 20's when this episode was filmed. Now I'm 2 years away from 50. WTF!
They really should have a where are they now? With some of these people
I'm assuming you're talking about the couples. If you have SiriusXM, you know what happened to Jenny. As for Chris, he's currently host and co-EP (with LeBron James of all people) of the gameshow/schedule-hole-filler The Wall on NBC.
That is where Facebook comes in handy. Type their names into the search engine and you will be amazed
There's no need to be a sarcastic condescending miserable troll. Tip: Being a sarcastic condensing miserable troll is not a good thing.
What? Someone made you have a bad day? Awww. Poor baby. I guess trolls need some love, too.
Anyway, some of them don't show up on Facebook, anyway. Also, they may share the same name will hundreds of other people so it would be a a pain to search for them, fyi.
Josh Taylor or just the internet in general
Don Paschal or the walking dead. There’s that show too
im only 12 rn and im enjoying watching old commercials more than anything XD
This show is not appropriate for you and I’m 8
@@ShinyFlakesShinyFlakes hahaha
Lol, I was 12 when it aired. I watched it every night.
The big baggy loose shirts and Jean's the 90s man what a special time lol
feel kinda bad for that girl who ended up with that weird redhead boy
Kacie York redheads have a unique heat signature
why? he answered the most accurately to match the girl's preference. I mean, if all you care is looks then I suppose you are at a loss.
He's nobody's type
13:52 You could tell she was like "F**k! This guys creepy."
@@burns1210 Let's go O's!
This show just came to my memory after describing a situation where someone was 'singled out' and my next thought was "That was a show on MTV." Had to search it to remember what the premise was. What a time warp! Commercials and all. I even spotted a babydoll shirt I used to own in my preteens.
Cannot believe it’s been 25+ years already
Wow I love those Mtv Singled Out game show cards they look cool
I feel...really old all of a sudden.
Because of this show I used to think interacting with the opposite sex was inherently embarrassing so I avoided it altogether until I was like 15
I'm just over here watching the commercials and laughing at how those were chosen... from beer, to babies, to pregnancy tests, and breath mints and gum. This is some "They Live" shit.... Marry AND REPRODUCE!
This is awesome I feel like I'm 13 years old again!!
I was 9. But I never missed an episode of singled out. Aeon Flux, liquid television, the oddities, beavis and butthead, headbangers ball! I'd give anything to go back!!!
Thank you for keeping the commercials in too!!
Wow, how we took better times for granted!!! I wish I could go back to this era when I was a teen.
I sound like my grandpa when I say I remember when a pack of gum used to cost a quarter.
I remember these commercials so vividly. They don't seem 25 years old to me. Back in 1996 if you showed me a commercial from 1971 it would have seemed old as shit. Point is, we're all going to be in nursing homes before we know it...
meanwhile it led me to remembering how much I liked drinking red dog beer in college and googling to see if I could find it somewhere again, and the answer is "probably not", and now I can't decide if it's better this way because nothing is ever as good as you remember it
@@Taumpy - Oh man, Red Dog was one of my go-to beers during my high school years, early 2000's. That, Icehouse, and Bud Dry. I haven't seen Red Dog in years. It may be still available in the Wisconsin area where it's made... I love a good craft beer, but I miss the days of the huge selection of "cheap beers."
I miss the 90's so much. After watching this I got sad. Everyone's close were SO BIG! So weird going back and watching stuff like this...
Got some great nostalgia vibes watching this and the commercials!
10:33 OMG! That Pringles commercial! That brought back some odd memories.
The guy in glasses wiping his hands on his red shirt after eating regular potato chips jogged my memory.
Here from the wild n out stars version of singled out
I used to watch this show all the time. I didn't realize until I was today years old that it was hosted by the Nerdist.
Also, I remember when Lisa Kudrow hosted SNL and she played Jenny McCarthy in the singled out skit. I'm beginning to appreciate how accurate her character was on entirely new levels.
I use to watch this when I was 12/13. What a time to be alive
omg to think i used to watch this thinking they all were so cool lol. the hosts plaid vest tho
I love that the commercials are in this. They seem soooo dated I can’t believe how long ago this was. I fell in love with Jenny McCarthy when I saw her for the first time on this show back in 96. Jeez I was 14-15! Lmao. And she still hot
Did anyone notice the male contestant is dressed just like Tyler Durden from Fight Club, even though this predates Fight Club by 3 years?!
during the signature bit the host actually told her to pick 3....it was decided beforehand that he would win because his personality was over the top.....wow...how did I miss stuff like this before? lol
Wish they still had this show. I’d def. play lol
They brought back super market sweep, now we need to bring this show back!
They did. Twice.
@@drewzuhosky6826 when?!
@@KB-ej2vb It was rebooted in 2018 for MTV’s UA-cam and then rebooted for Quibi, which folded last year.
Brings back memories of high school
She's a great host for this show love it
I love that the commercials are here too.
Miss this show and the 90s
forgot all about this show until earlier today when I watched an episode of the old Dana Carvey Show where he has the Unabomber play. hahaha. this is amazing. thanks for taking the time to upload.
love the kids in the hall reference... i didnt know americans even knew what it was in the 90s lol
finger banging at the laundry mat @9:23
I know. I never got the sexual innuendo in this commercial.
Haha. Before Jenny McCarthy went crazy. Man I still remember peeking at her Playboy spreads at Borders.
God I used to love this show and had no idea Chris Hardwick was the guy hosting the show with Jenny McCarthy and Carmen Electra. It just seems like he's been hosting shows for the last 26 years or so
WOW !!! WHEN MTV WAS GOOD TV !!
I was about 17 to 20 when I watched this ...almost 50 now. So loved it ,so wanted to be on it. !
Amazing video capturing this time...
Finally I found the show. I used to watch it in my teenage years. I am from India. and found the show really fascinating. Dating shows were innocent back then.
I remember watching this as a kid. Loved it.
I miss this show.
Thank youu. ✌🏾
The pringles commercial made ASMR cool before UA-cam was even thought of!
This was my show and My so called life!
Their hairstyles back then 😍
I was 14 in 1996 and I totally forgot about this show until now! brought back so many memories and I remember these commercials like yesterday! especially the gum commercial..lol
1996.I was 21.(sigh)
I can’t believe I found this is 2024!! Oh the nostalgia!
If you look close enough at it, you can see how it all was continuing to go terribly wrong, to where it can mostly explain the mini apocalypse of today lol.
WOW remember phone numbers without an area code?
No, because they were local numbers on the stations this video was recorded from
"...the diaper commercial (and the pregnancy test commercial) in the middle of the first commercial break feel really out of place, on MTV...
Actually, considering THIS show...
20 somethings women was the demo they were going after.
I remember almost all of these commercials. I was seven I don’t know why lol
probably because you watched them back then ;)
My teenage self had such a crush on Chris Hardwick.
Anybody notice these shows had everyone together having fun and laughs. Notice how they had actual audience up standing together having a great time. These sort of shows brought comfort and good vibes. Shows today are miserable. Reality , dramatic , negative crap. And likewise I couldn't be arsed tuning into the TV. Nothing really worth watching.
They remade this. Crazy I would’ve never known 🤣
Omg I loved this show in high school
Despite your needless description of the show, thanks for the upload. Including the commercials was cool too. Red Dog beer? hahahahaha, brings back the memories. I wish I could live in the '90's for another 30 years.
Winterfresh Gum (commercial) was 25 cents!! 😭😭😭 It’s now a $1.00 and some change. 😭😭😭
Wow, I was in college at that time... I do not miss those baggy clothes!!!
The way we dressed back then lol fucking crazy
I loved watching this singled out show, it was good at the time but then again MTV sold out just like other companies that.
The last time I watched them TV was when Beavis and butt was on, haven't watched it since then.
This was around the time MTV went to being just TV
That actually couldn’t be further from the truth, this was before even TRL was big, there was plenty of music to still be had on MTV. Please check yourself.
My best friend and I where on this show....lol... part of a casting call my buddy was part of.
We where there all day, for lunch we all got a cold McDonald cheeseburger and bottle water.
Jenny McCarthy was 100% diva, the minute the cameras stopped rolling she was gone to her trailer or wherever she would go wouldn't look at your or talk to you...lol
Good times
Haha really? That's interesting, but not surprising!
OMG why am I not surprised? She probably was shoving stuff up her nose.
I can't believe I watched this 😂
so good i miss this show
Me and my Sister loved this show….
Oh my god I remember that winterfresh commercial haha
Bro at 15:00 was ahead of his time with the Brad Pitt Fight Club look.
