  • This video showcases some of the newest features available on our Cloud Street Superwinch II. Ride along with us to witness a typical payout tow using this high quality paraglider and hang glider winch!
We are approaching 10 years in business and have been continually striving to offer the most advanced towing solutions to our customers and the the Superwinch II is at the pinnacle of our technology. It has 5500' of line on board and is capable of payout towing as well as stationary or "scooter" towing. The rig will ride on a 2" hitch for truck/platform towing or the hitch portion can be removed for easy mounting in boats. Tandems area cinch with this unit and we have many customers using our rigs for commercial operations. This winch is available with or without the electronic controls options shown in the video. The Superwinch in the video is one of 3 rigs that are standardized offerings thru Cloud Street. Custom builds are always entertained for those in need! We have built rigs for extreme sports use for Red Bull, tandem rigs with 8000' of line, and even winches used by subsidaries of Google X for UAV flight. Is this still a hydraulic winch system?

      Yes it's hydraulic.

airhead: As apposed to what other system?
I did a lot of research and calculations for an electrical static winch system for PG and HG, and the results I came up with was not what I had hoped for. Yes, the system and electronics with microcontroller control AND pilot-remote control was reasonably simple for me to build, but with a large LiPo battery pack (expensive!) we would only be able to get one tow to only 1000 ft on a good day. If using multiple truck batteries, then we could get multiple tows, but the weight of the system would be at least five times the weight of a well-designed ICE-hydraulic combination. This is for a static winch, because in NC and VA we just don't have the wide-open spaces for a pay-out winch system.
Electric winch systems initially seem light and simple to the uninitiated, but when you get right down to the calculations, they don't have the muster to really do what you want them to do, especially if you want multiple tows up to at least 2000' agl. And when you can design an electric system that does comes close to your flying requirements, they become prohibitively expensive and extremely heavy. They just don't pay. At least not in the foreseeable future.
