  • MBY Deputy Editor Jack Haines gets behind the wheel of the Princess F45, which is the first rung on the Plymouth yard's flybridge ladder, but by no means the poor relation.
    Prices start at £762,000 inc. VAT (approx $1,065m)

    Favorite moment for me was when you described the side decks as being narrow and pinched, then had to use the handrails from the neighboring boat !
    Dogged till the bitter end, well done Jack.

      thought the same thing. With the height of the boats siderails just about reaching over his knee-height and the superstructure forcing him to lean back, it really would only need a jolt going over a wave to throw him clean of the boat, falling backwards over the siderail.
      Seems like Princess are in the business of selling a million pound widowmaker. Ridiculous design.

      @@39mdg92 Maybe no one should be walking along the side while under way. Not a great design, but it's a 45 foot boat and they're trying to give you as much as they can.

      @@SurreyAlan I tend to view Aquaholic and MBY vids as intended, MBY give reviews and point out some pros and cons of a boat where as Aquaholic gives boat tours of boats he likes, a bit like sharing his hobby rather than needing to cast a judgemental eye. Just saying both channels are really cool for similar and different reasons 👍😁, phew that was more long winded than I initially intended. 🤪

This is most not my kind of boat but I could see my other half preferring it to 6 knots punching the tide. Nearly a million pounds for a 45 foot fast caravan! I'm wondering if there's an option to have the forward cabin as the master and 2 cabins under the saloon? If not the room for both cabins to be 2 sliding twins, how about 1 having an adult size bunk?

      and proper freezer/fridge draws, not a tiny freezer section in each fridge, that would only be usefull for ice cubes. This is my biggest gripe with these overpriced gin palaces, you can get a much better equipped galley in a motorhome/ caravan, that is 1/10 th the price

    2:10 The inevitable 'handling' section where the reporter talks about how well the vessel will perform on the everyday slalom course that all boaters encounter around the world. If you're testing on a New Zealand jet boating course then that kind of thing obviously matters. Personally, I'm not looking to test the sea legs or stomachs of my passengers when I go out for a spin in my gin palace (a very modest Merry Fisher!).

  • @mareewalker1096

    The best option on a vessel this size is to have diesel heating in aft copied with it enclosed for dining area! In summer it's warm to eat outside and in winter it's enclosed and warm! Then remove the dining table in saloon so it does not feel like your relaxing watching tv and the dinner table! It will also open up the saloon and make it feel it has more space! Not sure why everyone does this and builders don't build there first hulls on show that way!

    Lovely boat. Really thoughtful design....except the radar arch. You see this a lot now on this size of flybridge boat. Although radar radiation is generally safe, sitting with your head right next to a working transmitter isn’t sensible. The bigger problem is that people a few feet from the transmitter (but directly in its path) must surely cause huge blind spots on the screen picture?

    • @rykehuss3435
      @rykehuss3435 Рік тому

      Thats a common fear with uninformed boaters. Having your head right next to it isnt sensible, not because of the microwave radiation but because of the physical hazard of that spinning open array radar.
      Marine radars dont continuously emit microwaves (unlike a microwave oven), they emit pulses up to thousands of times per second and listen for the echos that come back. There's simply not enough time for them to heat something like your brain up at all.
      Secondly, on this boat the heads arent that near it, even if sitting on the rear couch, and even if you stood up. There's a clear safety margin. Unless youre 7'5 then you probably dont want to sit at the rear of the flybridge. Again because of the collision hazard more than anything else.
      In short, there is no danger from the microwave radiation. And to adress the blind spot problem, you generally dont run radar if youre at anchor or moored, which is when people can stand up and walk around freely. At 25 knots nobody is hosting a cocktail party on that flybridge. Everyone is seated and thus no blindspots.

    I enjoyed very much, but... having been very lightly critical of the IPS drive during the handling test, I think it would have been good for you to contrast that to the possible benefits around the marina. Some real world testing of the IPS would be helpful and also to know what the possible cost saving on fuel might be between shaft and POD on a typical boat such as the F45. Many thanks 8/10

    I don't mean to sound picky, but I love the channel and thoughtful review, but camera and editing work needs to be improved. We don't need to be seeing the presenter 98% of the time. We want to see the flow of 'walking' through the areas pov style please. We should be following the presenter and the camera pans to the area you are describing at that moment. The cameraman seem to be trying to focus on the presenter more than the boat itself. Great vídeo overall and unlike other channels, you call out the good and little missing details from the manufacturer.

    • @jackhaines123

      Sometimes you need less movement than a twist of the joystick allows, so for very fine control the bow thruster can be useful.

    • @buoyohbuoy790
      @buoyohbuoy790 3 роки тому +1

      Those are high profile / high windage boats, and they are relatively light. So to move the light bow in a lateral force 5 wind with just the IPS, and still maintain control in close quarters is tough. The aft of the boat is never the problem, because the engine weight, plus the fuel, plus other machinery like gensets and air conditioners are all there.
      So yes, most of the time you will be fine with just the IPS, but on lateral, even moderately strong wind, the thruster is good insurance to have...
      By the way, I have IPS but never use it. I prefer the old fashioned differential throttle in order to stay current. You never know when the next non IPS bargain will show up...
