    I got a 94 IDI turbo in a 93 f350. Like the combination a lot. Gets a lot of attention from older Ford lovers. I'm pushing the power up a little at a time. Only need what I need, not what it takes to impress the neighbors. Like the pure simplicity of the old IDI. It has a new E4OD and 4:10 gears, but I'm wondering if a standard gearbox would be an improvement.

    I used to daily a straight piped 7.3 PSD & it was great, I wanted something less computerized so I sold it & got a 93 idi ZF5. I thought about doing a turbo, but to do it right I’d need to pull the motor for studs & all that stuff.
    If I did a turbo I’d want to do it right not half ass it & have to do the job twice, I don’t have the time for that.

    • @warrenmcelroy4718
      @warrenmcelroy4718 2 роки тому

      You don't have to put head studs in a 7.3idi if you turbocharge it, its 100% unnecessary unless you're trying to run a shotload of boost, most turbo kits aren't going to allow for more than 15 psi of boost and some folks say they can handle over 40psi without needing head studs. But even if you did stud the engine just to do it you certainly don't have to pull the engine

      @@goproalex3409 had it up to 1250 before on a dyno , but that was no turbo and no intercooler. now I only see maybe 850-900 pushing it hard. intercooler really helped it

    600k miles on my 02 7.3 and still strong, first day my buddy bought a brand new 6.0 🤔 didn't even get home before it shut off LoL 6.0s not reliable at all.

      People also argue "oh but when you fix the 6.0 it's more reliable!" And I'm like well if you have to spend 6k on a truck from the factory to make it last then it's not reliable enough for me.

  • @volvo09
    @volvo09 9 років тому

    Great video quality, and very clean trucks, especially that early one... you don't see those in such good shape very often, at least in my area... salt and years of being a work truck have sent most to the scrap heap; if you do see one it's rusted out and beat to shit, with hack reparis all over.

    What year is the 7.3. I'm asking because that is an obs body that looks like its from the 90s. The 90s 7.3 was not an idi. Just wondering.

      Could a 7.3 idi take the boost made from a 6.4 turbo?

    • @thehillbillymechanic982
      @thehillbillymechanic982 8 років тому +1

      David Vermillion not even close. You really shouldn't go above 5-8 psi of boost on a idi.

    • @theq4602
      @theq4602 8 років тому

      TheHillbillyMechanic I know my plan was to simply use the compound setup to accelerate faster. I would have turned down the psi and added an intercooler and aftercooler.
