Joshua White and with a little work ( turbo kit, cc pumps, etc...) you can get up past 6.0 levels as far as hp. There’s one guy on a thread on the forums crap in 6.7 territory.
Brandon Sellears Ik there is a rumor that in 1990’s a shoo built a 1200hp idi and the block would flex so much that they had to use rub freeze plugs and they had the stock crankshaft in it

91dirtydiesel It’s no suprise. Ford knew that the Navistar VT365 (6.0 Powerstroke) was defective. Don’t even get me started on the 6.4, it can barley make it up to 200,000 miles.

I got a 94 IDI turbo in a 93 f350. Like the combination a lot. Gets a lot of attention from older Ford lovers. I'm pushing the power up a little at a time. Only need what I need, not what it takes to impress the neighbors. Like the pure simplicity of the old IDI. It has a new E4OD and 4:10 gears, but I'm wondering if a standard gearbox would be an improvement.
I used to daily a straight piped 7.3 PSD & it was great, I wanted something less computerized so I sold it & got a 93 idi ZF5. I thought about doing a turbo, but to do it right I’d need to pull the motor for studs & all that stuff. If I did a turbo I’d want to do it right not half ass it & have to do the job twice, I don’t have the time for that.
You don't have to put head studs in a 7.3idi if you turbocharge it, its 100% unnecessary unless you're trying to run a shotload of boost, most turbo kits aren't going to allow for more than 15 psi of boost and some folks say they can handle over 40psi without needing head studs. But even if you did stud the engine just to do it you certainly don't have to pull the engine
Definitely the 6.0 they sound good af when u get on them and rev them up they have this shop that I know of that specialize in them not many know but it wasn't a bad platform and they do last a while bone stock but there is a way to make a whole lot of horsepower and get the durability of the 7.3 but like people say it's gonna cost money
The 6.0 in our 05 f550 mini pumper blew the oil pump after 300 miles... yep 300. The 7.3 in the 94 model box ambulance we used to have ran like a champ
6.0 is still my favorite although an old IDI is hard to beat, gotta say all the competition between diesel guys is stupid. All the engines sound good and no product really does anything better than the other. Gotta love them all
I was a die hard 7.3 guy until I started looking into the 6.0s and how you could bulletproof them. Still love the 7.3 but a 6.0 is a mechanics special, they cost the same as a 7.3 but they have way more potential if you fix them right and probably the same reliability. Power is amazing plus the 5r110 tranny is great, they easily compete with the new trucks at a fraction of the cost.
Bs6.0pstroke_ 28 takes to much work to get a 6.0 to run right they just aren't a good motor unless you dump money into them… takes a lot to get them to 7.3 potential
