It was a typical comment that a passer by with no testing might shout......thought it fitting.

Very thorough and well thought out, it's a long watch but interesting nonetheless 👌 Once again, it goes to show just how many conflicting pieces of information circulate within the industry. Keep 'em coming!

Myth, busted! People who say dish soap strips protection are probably the same folk who use fallout remover before they clean their wheels! Great video, very detailed, and it was a longer one but not boring in the slightest 😬

Very generous comments Stu, it was painstaking to do. I'm hoping to try some new camera skills on the follow up video.
It's always hard to make it cool when the camera needs to be still. 🙄

I'll send you my address for that medal. 😎
Great debunking video! I'm sure itll be linked to a lot of times in the future when people spread this falsehood around.
For me there were two take away items:
    1. The "Quick Detailers" are more sealants.
    2. Some EZ products get an unfair reaction - they offer some good products.
And one final note, I'd suggest any degradation shown towards the end of the testing was from the mechanics of washing a large number of times rather than the detergent itself.

Thanks, big man, you know i love your feedback.
A follow-up video with 2 additional metrics is due soon to see if something else causes an Impact too.......watch this space. Will talk to you about it off-line.
EZ products (some of them) did rater well, despite this not being about a particular sealant/wax etc. but yeah, did show something and synthesis is really good.
The mechanics side could be down to the deliberate use of the yellow sponge :-)

Really interesting. Watched a few videos now and I can't get away from the idea that something that is safe on your skin is not going to damage your car. One of our friends has a 20 year old Mercedes Coupe and it's always immaculate. Her regime is a sponge wash with Fairy Liquid every fortnight. Once a year she puts some cheap Halfords own brand polish on it. I told her she should really use a dedicated car shampoo and she laughed in my face. I guess there are some swirl marks on the paint but the car is 20 years old and she wasn't the first owner but to the average on-looker her car looks clean and well cared for.

I hear you, my purpose here was to prove or disprove the theory that dishsoap will strip waxes, which it doesn't, even if used neat.
I think many are concerned that dishsoap contains some salts and other chems that potentially are unkind to modern paint surfaces. They are concerned that the rinse aids lock these to the parts of the car you can't see and cause damage.
I cannot comment on the long term effects and do always use dedicated car shampoo and the softest mitt I can find.
I've not really ever seen a car fall to pieces because of P&G dishsoap though.
Sponges do cause marring as they trap dirt on the surface increasing the risk of surface contact, However like you say, many won't notice, or if they do they are not overly concerned. Can always tell those cars when the sun comes out though 🤣

@@MJMDetailingDiaries definitely. I still use the 2 bucket method with gritguards and a microfibre mitt but the dire warnings about using Fairy Liquid causing your car to literally rust away in front of your eyes are massively overblown. My dad used to use Daz back in the 1950s/60s.

Has it not just lifted some of the wax from the other panels and then redistributed it over the entire bonnet?

    • @MJMDetailingDiaries
      @MJMDetailingDiaries  2 роки тому

Definitely not, it's just laying a mask of rinse aid over the top of everything, giving the impression that the wax is dead.
Give it a try for yourself, it's really quite interesting when you get into it.

Great video. I've seen videos explaining the salt content in fairy liquid is perfectly safe as well, some Dr scientist explaining it's a different salt addictive that won't corrode surfaces etc etc.

Thanks for the positive feedback. The salt levels if left to sit for long periods of time will probably do some damage but the fact it's heavily rinsed means it's heavily diluted and mostly removed in minutes.
I soaked widow rubbers in a variety of products for a long time and nothing happened to them.
Fairy liquid is unlikely to cause any major harm, but I'm not advocating using it for car washing, just because of the film it leaves behind. It's made for washing dishes and keeping hands soft while doing so, not washing cars.
