Was Jett Lawrence Really the First Rider Ever to Win a 450SX Debut?

- Honda HRC's Jett Lawrence broke through at the 2024 Anaheim 1 Supercross to become the first ever rider to win their 450SX debut. That stat seems impossible but the reality it's somewhat true, depending on how you interpret the data. Josh Grant won the Anaheim 1 Supercross his rookie year but he'd already made one 450SX start at the 2008 Seattle Supercross where he finished sixth. Ken Roczen and Damon Bradshaw won at Anaheim but had moonlighted in the big class before that. But what about Marty Tripes winning the first ever Super Bowl of Motocross? What about other early winners in Supercross history, like Pierre Karsmakers and Jimmy Ellis? Jason Weigandt takes you through some historical date in Monster Energy AMA Supercross.

Well Jett can debunk the whole controversy on Saturday by being the first rookie to win the "first 2" supercross rounds!! lol
Love it great comment
That would be really exciting huh? Maybe he could win every race like mx.... how exciting!
Ellis got 3 straight, so he'd have to go four.
Boo yaow! This is the problem with these guys going on about SMX like where watching a completely new sport
@@glentight3 straight first supercross races on premier class debut though?
Well he didn’t win a Camel Supercoss in his rookie debut. I swear it’s like the moto media wants you to start hating a rider. So many moto related topics and riders to talk about, but it’s the same crap over and over.. Maybe try telling the story of some of the past riders you mentioned and the amazing things they accomplished?
Lucas mirtl pushing so hard for these guys to have legendary status already
Oh no😲, an agent doing his absolute best for the riders he represents... HoW dArE hE!
Tortelli Los Angeles 1998 !?
Tortelli races a one-off in LA in '97.
@@RotoMoto You are right, he did !
Still seems like a made up award. His wins at the SMX 450 races in the fall somehow don’t count?
They aren't supercross races. Did you watch the video? How were your grades in middle school?
It is simple. It wasn’t called SX ,it is a complete different series. So yes, he did win his first SX race.
Okay I understand that it's just a stat and so on...but what I'm confused about, what is smx than? A new sport just by adding a longer track? Was Daytona all the years not an SX but an SMX race?
Come on, SMX were Supercross races with a different name.
They didn't have whoops, so not really an SX track.
Then how come you didn't include Grant Kenny or Bradshaw in the statistic about starts before first season win you only listed jet 1st Stewart 3rd Chad5th Jeremy9th Eli15th and ricky21st wouldn't that make Grant Kenny and Bradshaw second time winners
That graphic wasn't a list of "fastest to win." That was a "Here's how quickly the top 5 winners all time won their first race."
@@ygantmedia makes sense glad you made this video to clear up this statistic I know Grant has taken the social media and made big deal about it nevertheless not to take away from jet but this is a first of many first form Jet I expect nothing but more records to be set from that kids career!
Bruh Jett won at the Colosseum, 3 races on super cross tracks?? I’m confused idk I get he’s awesome but they not giving credit to the others
Jets there little boy toy , ! They act like no ones ever one a race before it gets annoying
@@aaronhinojos1131That might be the worst written comment I’ve ever seen. Props
Yes and that was a different series
I’m pretty sure those last 3 races aren’t ama official kinda like the monster energy cup or the old us open
He won his first sx race. No one else has done that. Period.
Amazing how a simple statistic got so many people upset that you had to make a whole 6 minute video breaking it down for the Neanderthals. Great work Jason.
Got to love Jett. We will see how he's does this supercross season. It's still to early to know
Those yellow numbers look fantastic! First ever defending champion to win his first race !!! 🤙
Don’t let this distract from the fact that
Hector! is going to be runnin three Honda Civics with spoon engines!!! and on top of that he just came into Harry’s and he ordered three T66 turbos!!! with NOS and a MoTeC system exhaust.
Well no one would have said anything about it but Lee Diffy and all of you made a huge big deal out of it I pointed out to vitel all the others that did it the key word here you guys use is debut but actually Ellis and a few outhers raced the class as a rookie but they won it in their debut as a full time pro. I just thought it was funny how you all made such a huge deal of it when he raced multiple races on his 450. Now i think it would have been a big deal if he never raced the 450 in any series and he debut in his 450 sx race and won. That would be something to talk about.
Jetterational
Love it
1975 actually had four races, yet Ellis won all four
Technicalities technicalities technicalities, A1 is first round of Monster Energy SX, but it's also the first round of SMX (last 3 rounds are just the playoffs)
Just for argument's sake if a football player played in the playoffs last season would he be a rookie in the normal season the following year
yes
No, because he whether or not they play in a game, even if they are on the practice squad...what ever year they come into the league, that is considered their rookie year @@mxwells216
There is only one mention of exactly *what* makes a season, and that's for the 250's. *Five points makes a season.*
Bradshaw, Grant & Roczen all scored more than 5 points in races preceding their first A1 victory, so, not rookies.
Tripes won the very first SMX race, so sexton can have 2nd😂.
"The Vault" says Karsmakers won the first ever SX race, Ellis would be the second, by the books, Jett the third...
Still, first time in 50 years that a Rookie has won on SX debut...
Are you trying to tell me because it was "super-motocross" none of his 450 starts counted as debut?? That is absolutely ridiculous if so. Makes no sense to say hes never lined up with any of those guys on a gate with a 450. He just about swept the entire 450 class last year...how does this make sense.
It's a new generation man, and they should redefine "class action law suit" and sue their schools. The ability to reason to figure out reality has been sabotaged.
Ask them how their math is. They can't figure anything out. What a shame. It's an area that needs some justice IMO.
I don't think so. I believe Damon Bradshaw beat Rick Johnson straight up, and the normal USA talent in Oska Japan in 1989 at the age of 17.
If it is not about being a AMA event, (and I know how you guys are), then I think Damon was the first.
It’s just a stat. Is it really that important?
yes especially when signing contracts
It's not the stat people are worked up about. It's that Jason and the rest of the SMX crew are lying to create their own false narrative that has folks in an uproar. This is been going on a while this one is easiest to point out
@@justinclackler8990what? Where’s the lie?
@@Mavrick121 he raced 3 SMX rounds, losing the first one. And they keep referring to psst SX champions like Carmichael and Villopoto as multi-time SMX Champs. If that's true then it's not a separate series and Jett, in fact, did not win his first race.
He also raced at the Paris SX on a 450 so it wasn't his first SX race like they claim
@@nathanmcdonald1572 you just confirmed it to me you are thick
Look out ! The Roo is coming through ! 😂 pack a big lunch fellas !
Don't drink that Kool Aid Jim Jones.
I can understand your excitement considering not much at all comes out England oh I mean Australia sorry
Can someone tell me if Kevin Windham beat Jeremy McGrath while he was still in the 125 class I believe McGrath had a flat tire
Look up the AMA records for your years in question. The internet has it problems, but you do have the best library, (not always the most accurate. too bad), at your finger tips right now. I bet you can figure out a lot more too. But, if this is good enough for your lazy azz,---I bet he did. You gonna take my word for it? :)
Windham won at Charlotte as a part timer but it was his second race. He podiumed the week before if I remember correctly
Technically *Jett* Won his first Monster Energy *SX* race. BUT he raced a *450* at *MXON* in *2022* then (won) *22* motos in *11 MX* races. Followed by *3 SMX* races *MXON* & Paris *SX* in *2023* (that's 30 Moto's/Races)
Compared with *Josh Grant* who raced a *Seattle SX* in *08* & then Won his debut *SX* race at *A1* in *2009.* Far more of a debut *450* rookie race
Technically, so😂
Well the deal was that Ray Diffy and all you guys made a huge deal of it. And people pointed out the flaws in the whole thing. I don't think anyone would have said anything but you all made it a huge deal.
That’s the dam truth
@@jamiebradshaw-mo1qs We can pick this stat to death when talking "technicalities" because A1 is now technically the first round of SMX.
So if a football player played in the playoffs the previous season would he be considered a rookie when he plays the first game of the regular season?
This is just me but if it looked like Jett was going undefeated in Supercross, I would clean him out even if I got a penalty. Sometimes you gotta play dirty.!
This is dumb we had to Hear SMX all damn year long last year. Now it doesn't count Jesus christ
It was never meant to count. That’s why it was a separate series with separate points and a separate champion. It’s not that hard to understand
@@Mysterion157You're calling people in this comment section slow so just for argument's sake of this persons comment
Technically A1 is the first round of the SMX. The last three rounds are the playoffs. So if a football player played in the playoffs last year & then played in the regular season this year they wouldn't be a rookie this year

Nice story weege.
Sextons doesn't count because it was Jetts first race too? Lmao Jason is actually getting entertaining for once
when the ama let 450's run in the 250 class and 250's run in the 125 class to make it "fair" for 4 strokes it destroyed any legitimacy in any records. besides, it's just something to fill air time when the bobbing head t&a girl is in the broadcast
Didn't know that McGrath won 450 title as a rookie along with Dungy.🤣I think you mean McGrath did it on a 250 2 stroke that sounds like a real dirt bike.
Short answer.... No!!
Short factual anser Yes
Considering the 450 class hasn’t been around that long, let’s look at 250 riders
Sebastian Tortelli in 98 would be the first? No?
Tortelli raced in 1997 in the premiere class and finished 7th in his first race. 1998 he won the Anaheim opener which was his 2nd premiere class race.
Impossible. Whomever won the very 1st Sx also won their sx debut.
Jett hatters, you better get used to it lol
Wouldn’t super motocross count? It’s supercross and motocross. Bradshaw has the best stat
And it always will be Supercross and Motocross. The FIM has failed several times trying to run a world SX championship and they always failed. So they took over our racing starting about 20 years ago. This time, when they fail, (most likely), will the take the rest of the sport, (and the 15 guys left on a FIM world championship MXGP gate), with it?
Bradshaw at Oska Japan, age of 17 I think in 89, beating RJ straight up, (and the rest of the best USA talent), "If he would have caught me, I had more", I think was the first since Tripes.
Moto people continue to prove the stereotype of us being “slow”. You people in the comments make us look terrible.
Lmao was just gonna reply to your other comment and say this. Going to my first race last summer and this comment section in particular has me convinced the moto community is home to folks who did pretty poorly in school.
@StigsGingerCousin It really is. I love the sport but most of my riding buddies don't have two brain cells to rub together. They're also all big Trump supporters. Not saying there's a relation between the two just an observation.
🤣 You know what happens after a snake is exposed Jason? Stomp, Stomp, Stomp
Tripes was first, obviously.
Yep, but I think they claim "in 50 years". I think it was Bradshaw beating Johnson in Oska Japan in 89. But the FIM establishment does not like to recognize the sport not in their grip.
"Hasn't lost a motocross race yet"
Yo Weege he literally got beat by multiple people multiple times at the MXON in France
Yo 😂😂
What does that have to do with Being the first person to win SX on their debut, You know MXON is outdoor motocross?
@@jamiebradshaw-mo1qs that quote I gave about a MOTOCROSS race was directly from Weege in the video. You would know if you actually bothered to watch it
