    Update - Contrary to what I was told when I had asked, the 1600lbs payload includes the passenger compartment as well. I’m trying to find out what the max load capacity is for the bed alone. Sorry if this has caused any confusion.

    Damn! Hyundai and Kia are absolutely killing it in recent years. This Santa Cruz is downright impressive. It's perfect for the urban dweller that likes to get out of the city on the weekend and enjoy nature. It's compact enough for the city but with a high level of utility. I do have a couple gripes... the useless 150 watt outlet in the bed is pointless, it needs to be at least 400-500 to be useful. Also touch sensitive controls are hard to use and even unsafe because you have to look at it rather than just find it by touch. Physical buttons for the most common functions is always the best option. Other than those nitpicks I love this thing. All it needs is a manual gearbox to go with that turbo and it'd be a lot more fun to drive.

    • @EverydayReviews2022
      @EverydayReviews2022  3 роки тому +5

      Pretty well my exact sentiments. I can’t see them coming out with a manual version just because of the extreme low demand but give us a larger inverter.

      @@EverydayReviews2022 It's a shame that most younger drivers just aren't interested in manuals. I just purchased a 2021 MX-5 Miata GT with a manual. I've wanted a Miata since 1990 and I finally did it because who knows how much longer cars like that will even be available. At least I'll always have my MX-5!

      150 watts is 1.25 amps ! What would that actually run ? MY electric teapot is 1500 w. Dude below says knobs will be available in the USA on lower trim models. This is not a design problem but a sales issue with someone thinking a knob free screen is someone a more premium look. Someone needs to get really angry and let someone know that is not funny.

    Just saw a base SEL model at my local dealer in the US. It was black with the na 2.5L and 18" wheels. I think it looks even better in person. Definitely the right size overall. The bed is on the smaller size, but very heavy duty feeling and usable. That one also had an optional cage extender priced at $375. Probably necessary to have in the Santa Cruz imo. They also had what looked to be an SEL Premium model, the same color as this review vehicle in the showroom. It, for sure wasn't a Limited because the grille was not dark. It did have the larger wheels though. The dealer was closed, otherwise I would have checked out the other one too. You guys are going to love it. That was a very thorough and outstanding review. Thank you.

    2000+ miles into my new limited Santa Cruz and I have to say, THIS THING IS AWESOME! I spent about 20 hours in research before purchasing mine in Somersworth, NH and its still more car/truck/SUV than I had expected. It’s a very luxurious sports car with tons of power... has the interior space and convenience of an SUV... as well as a super functional truck bed for most of your home, yard, work and play/hobbie/activity needs and tasks. Hyundai nailed it on this one. Everywhere I go this thing is snapping heads around. Great overall value. I highly recommend checking this thing out if your even moderately interested or even curious... you won’t be disappointed.

    5:35 For those not familiar, this is very low wattage. This is 150 watt, and your typical blow dryer is 1,500 to 2000 watt on average. A typical coffee maker is 1,200 watt. A toaster is 1,400 watt. A blender is 400 watt. Even my Dell laptop uses a 180 watt power adapter. There really isn't much you can power with that.

      @Arieta Do you understand how JD Power gets those metrics? They randomly send surveys to 80,000 new car owners who purchased their car within the last 90 days. 80,000 out of 3.4M cars sold each year. Piss poor sample size. Also their metrics ask about 17 points of "trouble spots" but they don't focus on the car's engine, transmission, or the actual cost of those trouble spots. I don't give 2 shits if a button on my console feels sticky if my transmission is working fine. But they ignore that. They put HEAVY emphasis on the infotainment system which is why brands like Honda (who focus on the engine, transmission... important shit) score low. Lastly do you ever wonder why Honda scores low on JD Power's ratings, yet consistently has at least 3 cars in the top 20 to reach 200,000 miles? The most recent data shows they have 4 models. They own 25% of that market with Toyota owning most of it. None of those shitty Hyundai cars are on that list...ever. I just traded in my 03' civic last year for a new Subaru. The civic's interior was shit... probably scored pretty low. But it lasted me 231,000 miles with nothing other than oil changes, brake pads, and new tires. When Hyundai makes it on the list, then you can be lazy and send me a PDF without knowing what metrics go into it.

    Great review. I’ve been assuming that we won’t be getting the hybrid maverick in Canada due to rarely getting the fwd/rwd models of vehicles. This review is kind of confirming that for me. Time will tell I guess. Would be nice to get under 6L/100 kms and be able to have a pickup bed for weekend projects/trips and transporting cargo without having to listen to it rolling around and rattling in the back of a suv.

    I really like small vehicles and this fits the bill. Bought an older Tundra when they weren't so huge before 2007 just for the smaller footprint. but it is still not like driving a car in the city or parking. The Santa Cruz is 22" shorter and 4" less wide than my smaller 2003. People that don't carry building materials much think you have to have the tailgate down in this thing to carry plywood but you.don't. Always safer to have the tailgate up with building materials and the Santa Cruz is just long enough to carry a 4 x 8 sheet that way. The Tonneau cover and under bed storage is great and should help with gas mileage. Lastly the turbo model should really accelerate this small vehicle down the road which is always fun. Now to get them at showrooms and hope they don't surcharge them cause they are popular.

    The biggest problem I have is with the backseat. When you make a backseat area smaller where the door does not fully open, it makes it hard to put anything in except people. The seat lifts up with a couple of useless glove compartments. The backseats should actually fold down making it easier to haul something. Our larger Chevrolet is just as bad. When the seat folds up, it actually takes away from the roominess of hauling something. Make the seat fold down and have like a platform instead. Or just remove the damn seat altogether.

      Also you lose cargo capacity because the cover rolls into a square box that partially extends down into the front of the bed. This limits taller bulkier objects from sitting right up against the front of the box. Not the smartest thing on an already compromised cargo bed.

    I like my Santa Cruz from a mechanical standpoint. It rides smooth and quiet. It handles well. Has decent acceleration. Looks pretty cool to my eyes. Gets meh gas mileage. All in all it meets or exceeds my requirements. What I hate is the screen telling me to confirm that I will OBEY all traffic laws every time I start it up. And, it tells me to check the back seats every time I shut it off. More Orwellian is their BlueLink connectivity that features a “Driving Score.” The vehicle can monitor every move you make and you can “earn” up to 100 points. Might mean lower insurance rates. It’s bad enough health insurance rates are based on earning your way up tiers like an obedient slave but when I’m behind the wheel I want to drive the vehicle without being under soft house arrest like I’m a would be criminal.

    The model you have shown does NOT have a 5K lb towing capacity. You can see on the hitch, that is a 4-pin connector. Hyundai does not offer the SC with a 7-pin setup at this time. Without trailer brakes, which that tow package cannot accommodate, you are limited to 1650lbs, less than even the hybrid Maverick.

    • @EverydayReviews2022
      @EverydayReviews2022  3 роки тому +1

      That may be the case with these early production units. I will check Wirth Hyundai but I can guarantee that ALL Canadian models will come standard with the 2.5t, AWD and 5000 lbs towing capacity. The non turbo Santa Cruz is rated for max 3500 lbs.

    • @ChrisPollard
      @ChrisPollard 3 роки тому +2

      @@EverydayReviews2022 Accurate, as a max spec, but DumbDuck44 is correct that without brakes the owners manual says 1650. Also, depending on your location, some provinces/states require trailer brakes on trailers as low as 1,000lbs. I believe Ontario requires them at 3,000 ... which is the most common. So the lack of 7 pin harness and trailer brake controller even as an OPTION from the factory is a huge miss when towing capacity is one of their big marketing points.
