Thanks for your kind words! If there was only one thing we could strive for(besides making quality drums:)) is you having a great time playing on DW's.
Glad we've caught your attention! Defects are found through inspection. Although it looked quick like, this operator has been doing this for while now and knows what he's looking for. Performance get the same treatment as the Collector's series in the manufacturing process aside from the note being stamped on the inside of the shell. We can color and tone match no problem for add on drums!
Thanks for asking! Those heads are the Coated Clear Remo DW heads. They are used for the batter side and are the most popular for our kits that leave the factory. They do not have a control ring separate from the drum they have a coated ring on the head.
I'd like to see a tour video on making the DW high hat stands and pedals, kinda obscure but would be interesting. Iv'e had my 9000hi-hat stand for like 7 years now works like a charm.
We love you, too! Glad you are liking your PDP kit and DW hardware. thanks for your support! You should the Blue to Black MX finish for your kit. Enjoy!
I have a Collector's Series Tobacco Fade kit that I love. 22", 10", 12", 14", 16". Shipped the 12" back to DW and had them make the 14" for me. And I SWEAR I am actually considering getting a 6", 8", and a 13" to match. I gig with them and then don't have a single blessed scratch. Also, if you get a chance to go to Oxnard, they are the nicest group of people. I was late getting there (CA traffic!) and one of their guys stayed and spent a bit of time with me walking me around...he didn't have to do it, he wanted to do it as he knew my guys at the Memphis Drum Shop! Small, small world. Thanks DW.
Thanks so much Chuck! We are flattered you are choosing DW! The deepest Rata tom or octoban style tom we offer is 18 inches. We hope this can work for you and of course we can match them to the rest of your kit!
Wow I'm speachless it's so nice to see people so passionate about drums Actualy making them. I was at my local music shop today and gave a couple toms that were on a shelf a good bit they were not tuned yet they clearly were if that makes sense. They sounded exactly as I like my drums to sound. I am very passionate about vintage drums slingerland Rogers leedy WFL Ludwig Gretsch Fibes Premier and my plan was to save and find a Buddy Rich kit. Now I see why almost everyone of the Ol' fellas that used to play those kits now play DW. Needless to say I'm saving my loonies and toonies for a DW and it will be well worth the wait. I already use all DW hard wear so none of this should have surprised me thank you Mr. Good and every one who makes DW possible yous RocK!!
Thanks for asking! Abe has been using some bigger sizes for quite sometime now. His drum sizes are usually a 14" tom in a snare stand, 16 and 18 inch floor toms and larger sized 24 or 26 inch bass drum.
There are 3 drum makers that I want to play in the future: Pearl, Yamaha and DW. Though I want to play Pearl or Yamaha, this tour gained my respect for DW! Great narration from John Good! Now I really wanted a big setup (22x18 bass, 14x6.5 steel snare, 6x8, 8x8, 10x8, 12x9, 13x10, 14x11, 16x16 and 18x16 toms) as my dream configuration. Don't forget the tom mounts! DW rocks along with Pearl and Yamaha!😎😎😎
I had the great fortune of taking the factory tour in 2000 in Oxnard and at the age of 16 got my Collectors series kit a few months later. These are truly magical drums.
I'm not a fan of DW drums/snares. I have owned them, sold them, bought them but I've never heard or played a kit or snare that works for me. I do however LOVE their hardware. Can't fault it. I own lots of it. Aside from the fact DW drums don't work sonically for me personally...there's no denying that DW's quality control, manufacturing process and workmanship is top notch! I think DW are a fantastic company.
That's fair. Never played their drums (always had Pearl Exports). I had some DW5000s like 30 years ago. The ones with the plates. Excellent pedals. I don't recall seeing actual drums made by them until years later. Based on the pedals, I assumed the drums themselves would likely be top shelf.
Wow as a long time drummer and also a mech enginerr. I found this video very interestingand informative and has given me even more respect for the care expertise and the combined personal/automatic tasks andtime it tiakes to produce such amazing drums. thanks DW cheers
I play a Collector's now for several years and it's a set I will never get rid off. Love the sound and looks of my DW set. Seeing how it's being made is a real treat.
I have owned my Collectors Series kit since 2000! It still looks brand new and sounds amazing! People can't believe they are 13 years old, and II play out every weekend! I just ordered a new All Cherry wood kit!!! Cannot wait! Anyone who reads this, do yourself a favor....buy DW!!!!They are the most beautiful drums on the face of the planet!
Thursday June 13th 2013. That is the day I've been waiting for for the last 9 years. That is the day that I am visiting the DW factory in Oxnard. I am traveling all the way from Sydney, Australia to do it. To say I'm looking forward to it is an understatement. It will be a dream come true for me. These guys simply make the best drums around today!
Huge compliment to the guys who administrate the youtube account! It's nice to see, how they reply to almost every comment, and always in a remarakable polite way. This is DW's image, a polite and super nice company, which builds amazing drums.
PDP drums are in 2 boxes. One box will consist of a bass drum, 14 inch tom and a snare. The other boxes will include the rest of the toms. All drums are packed inside of each carefully, with padding in between for a safe delivery. :)
Thanks so much for choosing DW!! Please contact the dealer you ordered your drum kit through. They will be able to assist you with your drum kits production status.
@drummers47 We will pass your message along to JG. Thanks so much for watching and your educated, positive words...and thanks for being a part of the DW family!
We are here to assist you in your fun times with drumming. Hopefully you having even more fun now that you have your new Solid Stave Snare. Thanks for choosing DW!
Bought a Performance shell pack 20", 12", 16" Natural Lacquer and could not be happier. Beautiful looking and even more beautiful sounding. Even my wife walked into my office/studio and said the drums sounded so good!
One day I'll see this all in person AND if blessed enough, see my own kit before it's shipped out. DW's are truly a work of art. The details are astounding, and I know every time I play my kit, they come out with each note.
@MrCordo10 We will take that as a compliment? :). We are happy you liked the Factory Tour video. It is our pleasure to show you our drum making process.
Wow! We so appreciate your passionate, kind words. We are very happy to show our drum making process. We have many great people working hard everyday to build the best possible drums for you and all of our awesome customers. Thanks again!!
I am lucky enough to own a beautiful DW kit!!! They are by far the best sounding and most beautiful drums on the planet!!! I get nothing but compliments on my kit!
Well we have made really big kits in Exotice finishes. One guy who comes to mind who lives in the states, has every size imaginable, at least 4 or 5 snare and all of his rack system and hardware in Gold. He's in the top of the list for sure!
MAN . . . .that is impressive !!! I had NO idea . . .. but this is why DW is the best !! Thank you John for the video tour and the obvious pride you take in your product. I have a set of PDP's and I actually saw the finish in one of those shots in the paint shop. Thanks Again !!
At first we applied them to strengthen the shell. Then after we could make our shells strong enough we noticed that it changed the tone of the shell. After reapplying the hoops we noticed they helped to focus the note of the shell. Where we are now we can apply them on request or advise customers to use them depending on the sound they want.
@joeyjuniorjunior Thanks so much! We do our best. We very much appreciate you watching and your positive feedback. It's comments like yours that keep us going. :)
A week ago I brought home a 4 shell pack collectors series kit. I already had the nickel snare. They stayed in the store too long so I had an amazing deal. These went for the price of performers. I am so glad I came across this deal. I tuned them like the John Good tuning video and wow, just wow! Thank you for making such a good sounding drum. I can not wait to take them to my drum recital in a couple months. You guys rock!.
Having had the pleasure of getting a personal tour from Garrison, I can say that this factory and all the employees are amazing! I just got my new Maple/Mahogany kit in Tangerine glass (14x20, 14x15,8x12,7x14) and it's absolutely flawless and sounds amazing!
PDP drums are strictly a production line drum kit but are made similarly. Same type of machinery. The Performance kits are made right here along with the DW Collectors Series!
John Good is the wood hunter! He is the one who seeks out new Exotic woods and we have been getting our Maple and Birch plies from a very reliable source for quite some time now. The wood does show up in plies then we manipulate how we need depending on the grain orientation of the shell.
Nice sizing choices! The double tom mount does make for an easy option for set up! We can say that this not Willy DW speaking but we can say we speak to him often! Thanks so much!
Thanks for asking! Really it depends on the finish and the amount of drums in the kit. For example, a lacquer kit with 5 pieces would take about 3 months.
We very much appreciate your feedback and watching the video! You are very correct in saying there are many people who are taking pride in their job to get you the best sounding and looking drum kit. :)
Awesome thanks! With the metal snare drums they are rolled or cast depending on the type of metal. We outsource these shells with our design in place. We will definitely make not of your suggestion for a future video!
Wow I showed this to my dad and it convinced him to get a DW kit!
When he saw the video, he saw that it was made with good quality
Thanks for your kind words! If there was only one thing we could strive for(besides making quality drums:)) is you having a great time playing on DW's.
Glad we've caught your attention! Defects are found through inspection. Although it looked quick like, this operator has been doing this for while now and knows what he's looking for. We can color and tone match no problem for add on drums!
@millerscapes Wow! Very stoked to hear the space lift off comparison. We are truly happy to have you enjoy this video so much. Have a great weekend!
The Collector Series drums are fantastic sounding and reflect perfection in build quality.
Worth every cent!!
Thanks for asking! Those heads are the Coated Clear Remo DW heads. They are used for the batter side and are the most popular for our kits that leave the factory. They do not have a control ring separate from the drum they have a coated ring on the head.
Nothing sounds like a DW, they have their own unique tone to them that I cannot find in any other drum out there. Someday I will own one.
I prefer Ludwig drums
@CarsonSwitalskiDrums serious ?
cuznred human shit
I'd like to see a tour video on making the DW high hat stands and pedals, kinda obscure but would be interesting. Iv'e had my 9000hi-hat stand for like 7 years now works like a charm.
DW has the best manufacturing quality and standards hands down.
We love you, too! Glad you are liking your PDP kit and DW hardware. thanks for your support! You should the Blue to Black MX finish for your kit. Enjoy!

Thanks for sharing the love.
No sweat. Much appreciated.

Ryan Chappell Thanks for the love Ryan. 😀
Thanks for asking! Abe has been using some bigger sizes for quite sometime now. His drum sizes are usually a 14" tom in a snare stand, 16 and 18 inch floor toms and larger sized 24 or 26 inch bass drum.
Works of art , Just beautiful .... Hard to know what I want with soooo many choices to choose from.
Thanks Naso! We very much appreciate your feedback. NP's b-day should be a paid holiday for drummers!
There are 3 drum makers that I want to play in the future: Pearl, Yamaha and DW.

Thanks for the love, Kyle.
JG is the man for sure! Thanks so much for your kind words!
LOVE my Collectors Maple kit, and enjoyed the tour immensely!
I had the great fortune of taking the factory tour in 2000 in Oxnard and at the age of 16 got my Collectors series kit a few months later. These are truly magical drums.
Awesome tour! I've watched the Zildjian factory tour, and I thought that was cool, but this blows that out if the water!
@MichaelTrabitsch Nice choice on the snare! Thanks for watching and your kind words. We keep going because people like you. :)
I'm not a fan of DW drums/snares. I have owned them, sold them, bought them but I've never heard or played a kit or snare that works for me. I do however LOVE their hardware. Can't fault it. Thanks for sharing Jay Joseph. Just curious what drums generally speak to you sonically?
dw drums This Jay Joseph person is making up phony statements...May God forgive his hate.
JayJo i agree. Their hardware is good. Pricey, but works very well
JayJo you just haven’t gotten a good kit
That's fair. Never played their drums (always had Pearl Exports). I had some DW5000s like 30 years ago. The ones with the plates. Excellent pedals. I don't recall seeing actual drums made by them until years later. Based on the pedals, I assumed the drums themselves would likely be top shelf.

Thanks for the love Robi!
I play a Collector's now for several years and it's a set I will never get rid off. Love the sound and looks of my DW set. Seeing how it's being made is a real treat.
Hope they pay their workers well. They work their asses off and make quality stuff
Ok, yep.... that was cool...Quality workmanship going on all around that building...a good promo idea as well 'cuz, I'm sold!

Tama, Ludwig, Yamaha,
Iam Noone Yamaha may be debatable lol but otherwise I agree
Iam Noone yes also Pearl, Gretsch and even SJC...
You guys missing Sonnor
Sonor for sure
Thank you very much for your kind words and support of DW!
you're doing a great job, be proud!
We would love to have you stop by! Thanks for your kind words!
DW drums are waaaay too good to have wraps placed on them!
I agree. Sparkle designs especially are hideous on drums or any music instrument.
He has been with us since the early 90's.
I always wanted to know how Plumbuses are made
Huge compliment to the guys who administrate the youtube account! It's nice to see, how they reply to almost every comment, and always in a remarakable polite way. This is DW's image, a polite and super nice company, which builds amazing drums.
When did they start putting the labels inside? My kit just had a stamp with a note to tune it to inside. purchased in early 2000's
PDP drums are in 2 boxes. One box will consist of a bass drum, 14 inch tom and a snare. The other boxes will include the rest of the toms. All drums are packed inside of each carefully, with padding in between for a safe delivery. :)
THE video on how to make perfect drums.
Thanks very much! We are happy you liked the video!
Mano de obra orgullosamente mexicana, por algo trabajan en dw drums
We are very happy to hear your kind words. You keep rocking and we will stay patient hoping we can roll you some shells soon. :)
What a great video. And what looks to be a great place to work!
We are located in Oxnard, CA. No openings at the moment. Thanks for your inquiry!
Now i understand why their drums are so expensive.
Me too tho!
me too :D thats alot of hard work, not everyone can do this work as good as they do it
Lol me too. Still gonna get one though
Dw are meticulous in all they do they sound great look awesome and have bullet proof hard ware there is nothing they do suspect at all
This tour explains and justifies the reason why I love playing my DW Kit
Our pleasure!! We appreciate your feedback more then you know!
What a downer :) I was going to try to make a drum but now I know it is futile :) haha
ArtisanTony I agree hahaha
Thanks so much for choosing DW!! Please contact the dealer you ordered your drum kit through. They will be able to assist you with your drum kits production status.
beautiful stuff!
@drummers47 We will pass your message along to JG. Thanks so much for watching and your educated, positive words...and thanks for being a part of the DW family!
I salute DW for the passion of making drums. But Pearl in my opinion is the better drum manufacturer
sabianjyea that is like comparing Bugatti veyron to Honda Accord
It's all about the ply wood! We spend our lives obsessed and dedicated to the stuff. I feel really blessed! Love ya DW!
if i need to buy a DW ... HOW MUCH IT COST ME 5 PIECES
Hi, If you contact one of our dealers they will help you with pricing. locator.dwdrums.com/drum/cgi/index?mapid=World&design=default&lang=en&option=

mr dw guy, just a question. i always thought dw were keller shels?
They were many years ago. We make our own, highly engineered shells. Take a look. www.dwdrums.com/drums/collectors/shells.asp
thanks for the reply. i enjoyed the video as well.
Thanks so much for your kind words and feedback to this video! We have many great people here taking pride in their work everyday.
I wish i had the money
Bought a Performance shell pack 20", 12", 16" Natural Lacquer and could not be happier. Beautiful looking and even more beautiful sounding. Even my wife walked into my office/studio and said the drums sounded so good!
is this Oxnard or Tijuana? haha
HDDrummer Visited some family out there last summer . I was shocked at the amount of Mexicans (myself included) out there 😂
We salute you! Thanks so much for coming back!
We appreciate your kind words! We almost felt it was to long at first. We wish you all the best also!
I dont think anyone who has ever purchased a dw has ever been disappointed... they are a pure work of art
Came on a factory tour in 2009, it was amazing and the room at the end was fantastic, thanks DW.
One day I'll see this all in person AND if blessed enough, see my own kit before it's shipped out. DW's are truly a work of art. The details are astounding, and I know every time I play my kit, they come out with each note.
@TheXrythmicXtongue YOUR WELCOME! We are very happy to show the process and are happy to hear your appreciation. :)
Thanks! We are happy to show you the process!
Wow. Great, GREAT example of what you guys do. I don't think I've ever played a DW kit that didn't sound amazing. And now I see why.
@MrCordo10 We will take that as a compliment? :). We are happy you liked the Factory Tour video. It is our pleasure to show you our drum making process.
@BenOnFilm Thanks for watching! The kit you asked about is a Royal Blue Lacquer Custom. Does look sweet with the Black Nickel hardware. :)
Wow! We so appreciate your passionate, kind words. We are very happy to show our drum making process. We have many great people working hard everyday to build the best possible drums for you and all of our awesome customers. Thanks again!!
Sure do looking at some old receipts I got mine in 2005
Thanks so much! We have the best customers to make our drums for sure!
I am lucky enough to own a beautiful DW kit!!! They are by far the best sounding and most beautiful drums on the planet!!! I get nothing but compliments on my kit!
We did! What an attic that is. Thanks for supporting DW! Everyone should have an attic like you. :)
Awesome! We are happy that you got to come by for a visit. The showroom can definitely be a head turner. We do our best to keep it well stocked.
Thanks for watching! We appreciate your kind words and support!
Thanks so much! Sounds like you know your stuff so appreciate your feedback as we do with all people.
Well we have made really big kits in Exotice finishes. One guy who comes to mind who lives in the states, has every size imaginable, at least 4 or 5 snare and all of his rack system and hardware in Gold. He's in the top of the list for sure!
Thanks for being a part of the DW family! Enjoy!
Thanks so much! We are happy to give you the inside look into our factory. :)
I just realized how high quality their drums are . there's a lot of attention to detail and that's why I love them so much
Absolutely! The Performance Series are more uniform because they have set sizes but have the same process as the Collectors Series.
MAN . . . .that is impressive !!! I had NO idea . . .. but this is why DW is the best !! Thank you John for the video tour and the obvious pride you take in your product. I have a set of PDP's and I actually saw the finish in one of those shots in the paint shop. Thanks Again !!
And thank you for your kind words!! We have some great people doing hard work everyday to get the best quality drums to our customers.
We only have the note stamped on the inside of the Collector's Series. Sorry for any confusion. Thanks for choosing the Performance Series!
We are honored to have you in our family! Thanks so much for your support!
DW is just simply an amazing company! Thank you John Good and the DW family for putting in so much passion when developing your drums and hardware.
Thanks so much! Thanks for watching!
Do you use butt joints or scarf joints on the seams of the plies? Are the seams glued to the other seam?
