This movie is good in a different way. History of the World is more modern gags, but Funny Thing totally captures the hilarity of Roman Life during the Imperial Era and doesn't have too much glamor sine Rome was one of the dirtiest cities in the world and a cultural melting pot of cultures.
Has anyone got an original / full-length version of the movie on tape? Later re-issues lost songs (notably "Free" with Crawford & Mostell) and other scenes; the song list is one indicator - as is the running length (anything less than 100 minutes has been `cut')

I feel like the character of Erronious wasn't played with enough energy. Now, whether this was due to Keaton's age/illness or artistic choice is besides the point. I liken this character to Mr.Magoo and feel that if he is played a bit over the top the jokes are even funnier than before.
Well, as someone who has played Erronious in a stage production of the show (which BTW, the stage version is much better than the movie), I feel like this is an unfunny way to play the character. The actor should usually become the character, not vice versa.
An extremely funny movie. Zero Mostel was one of the most talented entertainers ever. RIP, Zero, Buster Keaton, and Jack Gilford.

It's because they've found that he's funniest when he's extremely serious. Welcome to the differences between movies and stages
