Say what you want, but one has to respect the athletes from every era.

Wow, there are big difference in how it started and how it evolved. And you can see how the speed increase dramatically!

0:33 I think it was better for spectators when the sleds were open and had steering wheels. Now, with the aerodynamic fairings and full-face helmets, you don't see the driver working at all, just an inanimate vehicle barrelling down an ice track...

Of course, but now its safier for athletes and this is the most important thing

The key elements to a successful sled team are a steady driver, and three strong runners to push off down the ice...ICE?!?!?

0:47 Babe Ruth rode bobsleds too. Unfortunately, this video skipped 1980 and 1984 when the bobsled evolved to the enclosed versions used from then on.

Where is Lake Placid 1980 where really the modern bobsledging started with hi-tech aerodynamic sledges and special cooled tracks?!
In Innsbruck 1976 wery interesting 4-man sledges was used, where two pairs of guys weres sitting side-to-side like in a car.

    • @MrJm323

"....4-man sledges ...where two pairs of guys were sitting side-by-side like in a car."
Stop your lying! Bobsleds were never like that.
I Googled it, and Google never deceives by failing to return a result showing such an example in images or results of any mention of "side-by-side" racing bobsleighs.
You're remembering the Disneyland Matterhorn ride (rail-tracked) side-by-side seated "bobsleighs" or something, and then imagined that there were competitive bobsleds like that at the Olympics!

Was there anything super technical or athletic in the early days of bobsled? Lol, looks like four buddies slapped a sled together in the garage while enjoying a case of beer and then took it for a ride.
