KITCHEN MIXER TAP ISSUE..... One of THE WORST designed TAPS I've worked on
Вставка
- Опубліковано 5 лип 2022
- Kitchen mixer tap swap at a friends house and i turn it to be greeted by one of the worst tap designs I've seen, the Bristan "EasiFit" system.... what a pain these are. So so fiddly to even fit let alone remove when you want to swap for something different.
Also a few other little jobbing jobs that needed to get sorted.

Ha ha, here was I trying to undo the flexi tails from underneath, not a chance, another attempt this weekend now that I know what the crack is with the grub screws, never even noticed them before, knowing my luck they have probably been tightened up by the demons of hell! Thanks for the video 😆
You are welcome 👍🏼
@@MJTiffPlumbing Success! it took me all of 20 minutes to remove and install a new tap, thanks again for the video😎
Love my wet vac. My last company called me "wet vac mick"... when i left, they bought a vet vac as they'd got used to mine. They're amazing.
Thanks mark, another great video.
Always gotta have a wetvac to hand 👌🏼👌🏼
That moment when something that has been really annoying goes straight in the bin. Absolute victory
Hahahah
Nice content bud! 👍🏻So glad you mentioned these taps, heard horror stories of them blowing off! One of my customers wanted one fitted to a cheap stainless sink and I was not happy at all to the degree that I got her a replacement and she sent the Bristan back. I point my customers away from them at every given occasion! You must have spent most of installer looking over your shoulder for Honeywell and Bristan reps mate😂
Hahaha….. mate, I would LOVE for either of them to even reply or pick up the phone…. Just silence….
As for these taps, terrible design and it seems lots of people have had issues with them
My firm had the Bristain rep show us these when they came out told them it was crap at the time
Yep and still crap now🤣
I enjoyed the installer show video.
Decent.
Keep em all coming mate. 🫶
Thanks Tommy 👍🏼 glad you liked it mate
Another good insightful video again Mark. Yeah the close coupled bolts rusty nightmare scenario. It’s almost a relief when they aren’t rusty and they can turn freely. I don’t think people realise the bits and bobs you need to keep in the van just for toilet repair.
100% mate…. Like driving a hardware store
@@MJTiffPlumbing can you do a wobbly toilet fix please
Nice video Mark. Loved your reaction to the Bristan tap :-)
Thanks mate….. you can tell I wasn’t too pleased 🤣
You could have just swapped the easi-fit with another easi-fit!!
The client went for a Cooke and Lewis tap! You’ll be going back to that one soon lol.
Bristan (in my opinion) are unquestionably one of the best brands for taps and showers.
As said in the video, this is going in for a few months as the whole lot is coming out.
I wouldn’t fit another easyfit for one of my customers I would advice a more safe fitting tap as these are renown for blowing off and flooding houses.
As for being the best brand……. I wish you well👍🏼👍🏼
@@MJTiffPlumbing name a better mainstream brand?
Hi mark! If you do a video for apprentices, would it be possible to include what tools you recommend getting (obviously over time) as I have a feeling I might have missed a few in my first year just doing response! Absolutely love the videos mate, keep up the good work 😊😊
Also mate, the best companies I think are those that include their customers in their social media … like viva and unilite!!!
Well done Mark, know what you mean with Bristan......customer had a £400 kitchen tap that ead drip drip drip.....found the exact same tap with ceramic heads for £39 from Aldi online winners around....Neerad tools are first class 👍
Bristan really are not liked within the trade….
Yep Nerrad Tap Kit is superb👌🏼
THAT'S GOING IN THE BIN, lol made me chuckle but i totally understand, what a faffle, great vid as always
Best place for it……. (The scrap bin of course)😉😉
I've only fitted one bristan easy fit which was supplied by customer and there is a very good reason I only fitted 1.
Exactly mate….👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Got called to an easy fit tap that flooded someone's house. Tap blew off the base plate and the little old dear couldn't find the stop tap 😬
Yep, I can see why, 2 tiny grub screws to hold them on….. very bad design and a right pain
This was exactly my thought
I’ve seen it happen to spouts but at least someone is at the sink when this happens and just turn the tap off.
So I thought those easy fit will easily fly off
I fitted one Xmas eve, went back after new years for some more work. Double checked the tap and had to tweek the grub screws back up within a that time. Advised customer to periodically tighten. I've heard of 3 bar hitting the ceiling when these beauts fail 😅
I was going to say the S word. But you beat me to it ! I'm old enough to remember the days when you could fit a mixer tap and never have to return for maybe 40 - 50 years to change the washers maybe !! Still I suppose good stuff doesn't provide a steady stream of work though.
Indeed mate….. stuff ain’t made like it used to be at all
I honestly highly rate Bristan taps along with the ease fit. Ive been doing site work for the last 3 years probably fitted close to 200+ only had an issue with one, and that was a split in in the double check iso. But Guess it what you get used to. Also the tapex kit is amazing great tool.
Yep exactly that mate, if your fitting them day in day out and only had 1 issue then you will see them well👍🏼👍🏼 We all have certain stuff we like to work with.
And yer, the tap kit is a great tool to have on the van.
Have to agree Tom Walker; once you get use to the design & the way it works with how to fix tap top onto base, you'll never want to fit those fiddley tiny nut types again or the really bad large nut types with hoses through OR the spin type that then have 2 small screws to tighten up!! Only reason Easifit come away is fitter doesnt understand how the allen key grubs work.
With you mate. Can't beat the gear for the money. Fitted tons of their bar mixers, even got three in my own house for the last thirteen years.
I don’t mind easifit either, all that water came out because he had the taps turned on when he disconnected them so the spout drained down, to condemn them as shit because of that is just daft
Hi MJ
Think your videos are awesome mate, more videos on tools you use please 🙏
Thanks mate 👍🏼👍🏼
Class video Mark 👊🔥
Thanks Nath🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼….
I've fitted a lot of Aqualisa digital showers: I have one in my bathroom. I've been to their factory and I'm a registered installer. Their customer service is good 👍🏻. But I do sometimes question the quality of their digital range. I've had control units misfuntion or parts breaking off very shortly after completion. I've also fitted Mira digital showers and their gravity pumped unit is a lot quiter than Aqualisa.
Yer Aqualisa service is spot on… great company
You were sooo lucky with that cistern refit cistern wasn't siliconed with 1/2 a tube to the tiles; I'm always getting that & takes a saw to get it off!!
Must say Bristan have become a pain with the valves failing & having to get new ones from them!! Had 3 in last few months some only 3 months old. Not a happy plumber me. Yep, Aqualisa & Mira showers only too.
Yep usually a load of silicone holding them cisterns on as we know….👍🏼👍🏼
Why do some bathroom fitters still
Silicon or even glue the cabinets panels on so I can't get to the bloody cistern to change the parts ?
Exactly…..
I changed one of those taps last week , I was just glad the two grub screws holding the body in place weren’t seized up .
Luckily I had better luck than you Mark 😁
Crazy that just 2 tiny grub screws hold in a tap as if it comes off it will flood the house as a few people have said on here
You poor man, Bristan has really upset you!!! I have used Easy fit and rate the product, no problems fitting and straight swap with any other Easy if tap. Not had any issues with warranty claims, next day delivery, what more could you ask. I agree with you regarding Aqualisa comments, excellent service. Stay cool, keep up with the channel, great job mate.
Indeed they are easy fit to replace…. IF the customer knows they have an easyfit tap and tells you this when you get the call for the job. If not you will purchase a tap to swap and then end up removing the easy fit system all together, same applies if the customer supplies there own tap and does not know they have an easyfit installed….. and 2 tiny grub screws to secure a mains fed tap!!!…. No thanks.
Each to there own but they are not a product I would want to put my name to.
However Aqualisa as you know are great…👍🏼👍🏼
Glad you like the channel and thanks for the comment, love hearing others views etc 👌🏼
I've had a couple in the past of those bristan easyfit taps blowing off several months down the line....
They are sooo bad
do you like those isolation valves under the sink? i find they leak, better to use ball joint lever valves? whats your thoughts? maybe I'm using cheap screwfix stuff ?
Never had an issue with them…..👍🏼
Hi mate! Glad I saw this video…. My kitchen tap… one from howdens has gone to pot. Already replaced valves now it leaks out the base of the spout. Can’t get it off so I’m gonna get a new one… was looking at this one youve just whipped out but now I’m starting to think it’s a bad idea…. Any decent makes you recommend that don’t break the bank…. Ones I use are real cheap shitty lever taps on a council estate which are spec’d so I don’t really fit any others regular to know what’s good.
To be fair I had an issue with a shower valve and after a little bit bother they bristan sent a new in box one but I try to stick with Mira where I can as their quality is another level , as for kitchen taps I like the models where you hand tighten a big cylinder block , no tools needed ,nice and simple
👍🏼👍🏼
Teagarden aqualisa showers I live on a new build seven years old, think I’ve replaced half the aqua Lisa showers on the estate since I’ve been here, and the problem with the electric showers is if and when they go wrong you can’t buy spares for, you have to replace the engine, which is essentially the shower with out the cover, very poor showers in my book.
Worst taps ever, Bristan have changed the original grubscrew design twice because they well know theres a problem, but you'll never get them to admit it. The 1st design is apparently the worst, I have had one blow the tap off, fortunately customer could turn water off immediately. The grub screw had literally tore through the brass, maybe customer had been swinging on the tap but even so that shouldnt happen.
I ended up going back to every Easifit I'd ever fitted and checking the grub screws. They had come slightly loose on the 1st designs, I threadlocked them back in. Will never use Bristan again. Their showers are also sh1t, and dont even get me started on the bath shower mixer diverters.
Great video Tiffybobs.
Horrific taps and a massive flood just waiting to happen imho
@@MJTiffPlumbing IMHO, YHO is correct....
Easy fit my arse , glad it’s not just me mate 👍🏻👌🏻😫🙈😂
Rubbish ain’t they mate….
@@MJTiffPlumbing 100% I was swearing 🤬 my tits off just like you 😆 silly idea makes no sense - I did like the built in check valve’s but that’s it
I am surprised that with your following and influence on your channel bristan hasn't approached you for a chat about their products. There loss and aqualisa's gain. 👍👍
Unfortunately they are just not bothered, I spoke to someone in the know a year or so ago about the warranty issue and they just were not interested……
Bought a nerrad tap kit off the back of you’re video. Now struggling to understand how I’ve done 20years without one.
Great tools ain’t they…. You don’t know you need one till you have one 🤣🤣
Easy Fit?? That was a joke when I was asked to fit one - it wouldn't go through the hole in the marble worktop!!
Crap ain’t they
Bristan have an issue with that model ( echo) I've fitted 3 sets of cartridges to it within 2 years of fitting it. Bristan admitted the company which supplies the carts ti them were inferior, so now they have totally different carts & heads . Like you I went to town on them about the so called easi fit ! & the customer service agent agreed. Especially when i commented about having to fit the white thrust plate as well on them, as it then doesn't become an easi fit!!
I have fitted loads of these taps & have not had any issues in fitting them or blowing off . Bristan now offer 10years parts warranty on all thier products thats pretty good. Cooke & Lewis what you fitted from my understanding is 12 months on the carts but 5yrs on yhe finish !!
What I tend to fit now are Franke taps great customer care & straightforward install with the 1 post install. Check out the Franke Athena as it gives good flow on LP & comes with M12 tails as opposed to M10 which are rubbish on LP so I always ask the customer what their plumbing system is so I know im not going to get poor flow.
As for Roca donut seals they're quite difficult to get hold of off the shelf as they're a specific design and you can't use any other donut on them. I try to carry a couple on the truck for situations such as what you had to do. You don't have to fit Roca fill valve & flush valve as ling as you have a new Roca donut seal , any 2" flushvalve such siamp viva etc will work a treat. Roca flush valves aren't cheap close to 40 quid & 20 quid for the button. Viva are about 15quid !! Worth baring in mind for the future 👌
Don’t believe any warranty that Bristan “say” they have….. I’ve done a video on this exact thing…
The “2 year parts and Labour warranty” advertised on the from of the showers is not a “2 year parts and Labour warranty”
As said in the video, this tap set I’ve fitted is a quick fix as it’s all coming out soon
Was the tmv not in the cylinder cupboard that's were we fit them if it's a free standing bath on new builds
Nope….. nothing….
All will be revealed soon
Keep up the good videos 👍
Where do I get the tap kits from, will save me loads of hassle 🙏🏻
Thanks mate….. have a Google mate, will come up👍🏼👍🏼
2 things I noticed . That tap kit . Good tool that . I would of been under the sink old school ways . Another was that easy tap . Looks much easier if replacing like for like
2 kit….. great tool..
Like for like swap…… expensive and if you or the customer doesn’t know they have an Easy fit tap what you going to do…. Complete waste of time these taps
Love that tool just the best ,
Proper good bit of kit👌🏼
Have fitted several Bristan taps they are not that easy to fit and they are not cheap i agree with you they are a pain in the arse
Yep….. they are far from a good tap, and it’s my friend Bristan again🙈
Very helpful video. 3 years ago I actually chose a Pegler Jeroni swan neck single lever. Well Friday night the whole swan neck has completely come off. We had to wind it back on several times a week for the last 3months. Now the spout doesn;t even screw back on - it's too loose when I try and put it back on to the base of the tap. Do i need to poke an O ring inside the thread of the spout? Any ideas how to fix this please? Just until this Bank Holiday is over and I can get a plumber out. We are kitchen sink tapless! I really though Pegler were the Rolls Royce of taps??? Is nothing made to last anymore? Thanks for the video.
I would personally fit a new tap, that one sounds about knackered
@@MJTiffPlumbing Thank you so much for your reply. City plumbing are closed but will be there in the morning. Have a great Bank Holiday. We have bottled water to see us through til tomorrow. Cheers again.
Excellent
Thanks Adrian 🙌🏼🙌🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Only easy fits I’ve seen pop off are from people I know didn’t locate the grub screws correctly.
Fitted loads never had an issue
They’re a decent price and everything in the box
2 grub screws off and new taps on with 2 grub screws easiest swap you’ll ever have
So you have seen them pop off as…. seems it happens a lot.
Problem you have is when someone rings up to change there kitchen tap so you get another one off the shelf or the home owner supplies a new one, chances are they don’t know they have an easyfit one so but a normal tap…. Then they have paid there money for a new tap and want it swapping.
@@MJTiffPlumbing
Even if it needs swapping to a different brand they ain’t hard to take off.
Don’t see a big deal really.
I get more upset with the massive stupid backnuts a lot of monobloc taps come with.
Think mainly from b&q and screwfix.
@@plumbertime those taps with the stupid big backnuts where the flexys go through the middle, that you can't get anything on to tighten properly cos there's no room ......WTF
I've checked all the ones I fitted after one blew off. The earliest designs had come loose while the better later 2 designs were still tight. I still wouldn't use them again though, as I could see on the blown off one, how the grub screw had torn right through the brass. Maybe Customer had swung on the tap. As we all know, you've got to make stuff idiot proof........
Like top-cleaning shower/bath traps..... there's always somebody will manage to unscrew it if you don't silicone it in........
Has anyone found that the latest Bristan easy fit taps come away from the grub screw fixings? I have seen a couple of you tube clips of Hamish of Exeter. But guessing the tap issues have been ironed out since 2016, when he made the video warning others about the flaw! I have just fitted a Bristan echo for a friend on Friday, then seen the 2016 video clip afterwards! I have tightened the 2 grub screws so hope it will hold on the easy fit housing properly. Any ideas from you lot? Cheers
Wouldn’t touch them with a barge pole….. huge problem waiting to happen
Franke Olympus. The king of taps. If you have a spare £160.
Yep gotta love a Franke
I could tell you was not impressed with the Bristan easy fit tap, I have some experience with those taps and yes you are right they are crap.
They also have a habit of blowing off the base, unless you constantly check the grub screws remain tight and who will do that???
Another great film, take care, regards, Chris. 👍👍👍
Could you tell Chris🤣🤣🤣…. My old friend Bristan again🙈

Yep, they are a terrible design
That’s a nice lamp
Yep, cracking light for under sink units…. Unilite RF5400….. 👌🏼👌🏼
The EasyFit range were really designed for the DIY homeowner and not a plumber who will have all the right tools. Replace the tap with another in the same range with just two hex keys. Job done. However, they can be a pain to initially fit, especially if the pipework needs changing. And I've had capillary issues with one tap which made it drip for a long time after turning it off resulting in swapping it out for a cheaper Screwfix tap! 😂
Not a great design for a homeowner to do it DIY style with those grub screws….. it is goes wrong it’s flood the house with mains pressure…

I’ve had 4 of these failing it’s only 2 grub screws pull off jobs done these were still under guarantee £65 labour 10mins work you made a meal out of it
It’s not 10 minutes when you have to change the whole base unit as per the video….
Plus if it takes you 10mins it hardly an easy fit is it.
Good tap design, obviously to easily swap a Bristan for a Bristan. Really quick and easy to be honest. Also maybe it's worth being a a little less brutal with your tools, slamming them on and around the sink drainer can easily scratch it.
2 tint grub screws holding a tap on that could be at least 3bar of mains water pressure is not a good design imho…. But each to there own buddy 👍🏼👍🏼
As for “slamming my tools down”……. If you listened to the video you will hear that it’s a mates house which is being ripped out in the near future…. But thanks anyway 👍🏼👍🏼
Yea not a fan of those taps, done a few and had issue with one blowing off ( I didn’t fit it). Hardware changing all the time, so just have to get on with it 👍

Best taps around for the value. Not had one issue with them personally
You are the lucky one then….. complete design Russian roulette just waiting to flood someone’s house…
That commit you made' how do spell it'
Which one????….
Screwfix have some of the Bristan kitchen taps as trade rated. I think the idea of being able to swap them out for a DIYer is good but by the looks of it the enineering design is poor. Just held on with grub screws. A company like Bristan would do well to listen to fitters/rapair plumbers/maitenance people and change the design. Proper trades people will just stop using their products. Seeing this video I will not touch their products . Wont be long before they get sued for a leak that does a lot of damage to a property. I bet you editted out a lot of the swearing on that job. Keep up the good work Mark.
Indeed a lot of it was on the cutting room floor…. Hahaha…..
Not a great design at all
Yep, even if only 1percent blow off and even it's cos of customers swinging on the tap, that's still not ok in my opinion. If it can go wrong, it will !
yep customer buys tap its an easy fit...my arse, and i charge them accordingly.

The problem with the cistern is the usual. It’s full of cheap plastic crap! Still, it’s good for business I suppose!
Yep…. Very cheap, brittle internals
They should be called ‘Easi swap’ as putting one in can be a fiddle. I’d say a decent quality tap though.
Only easy if you know it’s an easyfit before you go to the job or you end up with a normal tap so it all comes out anyway
You really don’t like bristan!🤣 wait till you get an easyfit that is all corroded and scaled up! That’s a challenge🤣

Easy shite Bristan Tap easy fit my ass hate them.
I have an Aqualisa shower and it's awful. Absolute junk. Only give you short warranty and it usually doesn't last long enough. Had shower 6 years and 3 new motors in it and also burnt my wife quite badly once. So probably wouldn't recommend.
👍🏼👍🏼
Bin lol don't bin them mate scrap value worth saving all ur ole taps. Took 4 tubs of taps over last week £388 scrap value was expecting about 120 insane at the mo
Oh yer, they will be going in the scrap bin…. Not the bin bin🤣🤣😉
Cash them in for Christmas, a few bottles of bubbly etc! 👍🏻🥂🍾
Na I think I’d side with Tiff. What rhymes with fit? I’ve put a few in as well. It’s far from easy, unless of course you’ve got two elbows on one arm and it happens to be 6 ft long. You usually have to ask the customer to hold it in place. Try putting one of those on a butler sink and you’ll know all about it.
However BS offer a generous 10 year guarantee and if you can be bothered to supply an image of the laser etching on the back of the tap they usually have no issue suppling spares.
I also see a lot of Bristan taps dripping. Is that because they are popular. Or s@@t.
I wouldn’t touch their electric showers with a barge pole. Bristan Joy. What a joy.
Crap ain’t they mate……. Utter utter crap

Would you not disconnect the bottom connections first on a regular kitchen tap? Lol
Yes you would…. Lol
Your missing the point, the Bristan “easyfit” is supposed to be easy to switch by turning the water off and swapping the tap unit, but this clearly shows you can’t just shut it off and remove it, you have to disconnect and drain the Pipework….
