Hope your doing well man! Havent seen a video in awhile and just was checking it. Love the content! Getting ready to transplant a 3800 into my 3rd gen F-body
I'm going through this crap to on my 2000 camaro lol.. been sitting for 5 years. Getting one thing fixed then something else.. I'm glad I found this video.
Easiest way to get the crank pulley bolt loose is with a breaker bar, and let the cars starter do the work 😉. Position the breaker bar to where it's strait up, then go in and turn the ignition over. It'll swing the breaker bar down and smack against the subframe, but when it does it'll knock that bolt loose. I promise it works every time lol. I've got an 02 Firebird with the same engine. From there the impact can get it out without a fight.
You're Just Great Man, this is what I need to do on my Pontiac firebird, it's very simple all you need is, a pulley for the Crank Shaft, Sockets & Supperzilla & break fluid, Great Job!!!👍
Hey, guess what I just had to change on my 3800 to get it running again? I'd been scratching my head over my crank no-start situation, then I finally just Googled "3800 crank no start" and found a few forum posts that all said the same thing: crankshaft position sensor.
Nice video,...I just bought my 98 v6 version, and had no idea where they were located! With that being said, I don't see myself pulling the balance wheel, just to put in a used part. That crankshaft positioning sensor can't be so expensive, that I would risk having to do that job twice in six months.
Thank you for the guidance on fo8ng this seemingly easy exchange of the crank &cam shaft position sensors. I must say it was a B---- to get the bolt out of the harmonic balancer. Two days later HE is pulling it off and hopefully my 2001 Chevy CAMARO WILL BE UP AND RUNNING AGAIN.
That harmonic balancer is unique to the f body 3800 5 speed manual. The autos come with the bigger smooth looking one that also fits the fwd buicks etc. I'm not sure if the balancing is different to match the balance weight on the 5 speed flywheel vs the autos flex plate.
Great vid and i notice you successfully pulled the balancer off with a regular puller where some other vids say to use the inner styled puller because of the rubber shock absorber between inner and outer rings .
I'm replacing my 3800 and using your videos as well as the factory manual to refresh the replacement motor(150k $400 supposedly running I just want to do maintenance as well as repair a few known flaws, not taking off the heads or redoing the bottom end, just gaskets etc). Would you mind looking at my parts spreadsheet and letting me know if I'm missing anything or if any info is wrong? Let me know and I'll send the link.. thanks!
Great video. My 01 Camaro idle an runs like crap. When I get it up to speed and let off the throttle. It's sounds like I have a 2 step. I changed out all the sensors except for the cam & crank sensor. Hopefully this will solve my problem
I love you dude....lol! ..."I have this bad THING.... where I overlook stuff, that's right in front of my face."... LOL! Got the same problem Brother & for some reason I also prefer to do the same job 2 to 3 times, instead of right/correctly the 1st time around. You get your dollars worth that way yah know, you get to enjoy the journey a bit more :) Who wants to be efficient & save money anyways...lol!
I have a 94 Camaro 3.4l v6 and I’m having a hot start issue…it’ll start right up one key turn when it’s cold but drive it around the block a couple times, get some gas, jump back in, try to start it and It’ll take at least 2-3 times before it wants to start again… It’ll reak like gas through the air vents too… if you have any help I could use I’d very much appreciate it I don’t have the funds right now for an obd 1 scanner to check codes
I’m Not familiar with the 3.4 L …Could be the crankshaft sensor or cam shaft sensor malfunctioning after getting hot or other sensor.. I would also check the ignition relay And starter relay in the fuse box switch them with other relays like headlights or wipers if they are the same see if problem follows ..gas smell could be fuel leak in engine compartment getting sucked into vents… check when engines cold click key on and off A few times to prime fuel rail check fuel lines rail injectors for leak also if exhaust is leaking at engine could be getting un burnt gas exhaust fumes. idk Without having car here but leave and update for others once you figure it out good luck

Nice video. Very well done and straight forward. I have the 5.7 and love it until I need to do work and I have zero space to fit my hands 😂
Huge thumbs up. Gonna apply this fix today and hope it solves me stalling out on the damn highway!
Man literally
Great how to vid. Thanks for helping us out with the detailed descriptions and the safety tips.

I only use the breaker bar trick if the impact doesn’t fit
We're not mechanicaly inclined. We'll he's not anyway but we had tried 3 impacts then did the breaker bar and it worked. So yeah you ar right on point

Thanks for the video. It should be the same on a 1993 year model right?
Right as my sensor fails there just happens to be a video posted recently. Thank you!

Do you have a part number for the puller you used I can't find the correct puller to use or another pulley that's compatible
Very nice, good job
Dawg i tried to loosen that bolt with a 1050 ft/lb impact and it still wont come loose 😭
