One time when I was little I had lost my lanyard and I was crying so a sweeper came over and asked my mom what was wrong, she explained what happened, so he took us to an area and said to wait here. He left and came back later with his special collection of pins and gave them all to me. They all had those special mickeys there were also some original antique pins. I will forever be thankful for him and his kindness. He and people like him are what truly makes Disney an experience.

If you need a pin back you can ask a cast member who is sweeping. Sometimes they'll see them around and pick them up. They'll give one to you if they have one.

Tips from someone who has been trading since 2003.
    1) don’t buy pin lots online. You may be getting 100 pins for 25 dollars, but they’re all fake.
    2) you’re allowed to say no, don’t let people pressure you to trade.
    3) check for fakes at the board, lots of people don’t follow rule number 1.
    4) have fun
    5) I suggest if you decide to collect, choose one topic... from experience.
    6) buy locking backs from amazon, you get 40 for 10 dollars, and they don’t damage your pin back or require a wrench.

I did the career start program in Disney world. When I worked there, the cast members were allowed to place one pin backwards. That would be a secret hidden pin. Anybody who was curious about the pin would have to trade for it before seeing what it was. It just made it a little bit more fun, like a mystery pin.

You guys are always consistent in showing me so much more then I ever knew about Disney! I LOVED the Pressed Penny video you did also -- and I got pressed penny books for all 4 of my kids after I watched it. We have been making pressed pennies a tradition now for all our trips (it's a great souvenir to get when you have 4 kids) Hopefully we are all going to make a trip to Disneyland this March and they are excited to get pressed pennies there!!

A few things with the video. "Completer" pins are actually called "Chaser" pins. The more hardcore traders are actually now no longer to setup shop inside the parks. They used to give them an area in Frontierland and also in Tomorrowland but what wound up happening was that they would pay people to go inside the shops to buy up all the LE pins because they have a limit on how many you can purchase. So they wound up ruining it for everyone. Limited Edition pins will have a number on the back of how many of that pin they are limited in production to. Some might be 5,000, others 100. Pins can also be gotten in a wide variety of weird ways, not just purchased in the park. I started collecting Tron pins when I went to the premier of Tron Legacy. Fandango did a secret promotion with Disney that a random amount (I believe it is 1000) pins were sent to people who bought their tickets to the movie from Fandango. Weeks after I attended the movie, I just got this really cool pin in the mail from the movie. There was also a super rare Tron pin that was only available from a somewhat unmarked gumball vending machine in downtown disney. It was the only place you could get it, so Disney sometimes makes these pins available in very weird ways. Hence, the rarity of some of them. Lastly, if a cast member is wearing a green pin board, they will not trade with adults, only with kids 12 and under!

Just a suggestion to the new collectors out there. When you trade for a pin you REALLY want to keep, pocket it or put it in your purse to avoid losing it when you're on a Disney ride.

Chris - since this video was recorded there has been a very important change regarding pin trading.
We were at Disneyland and DCA during Spring Break 2024 and the cast members were not automatically trading pins with guests.
The cast members are trying to weed out fake pins from the parks, so if the suspect your pin is fake, they WON’T trade with you.

My Son...when he was young(er), LOVED STITCH, he had 3 lanyards FULL of stich pins, when my Goddaughter was born, we took her to Disneyland, she was 3 months old, my son took 2 of his lanyards and traded them for Tinkerbell pins. My Goddaughter turned 13 last March and she showed me that she STILL has her Tinkerbell Lanyard and pins.

Thanks so much for making this video! In November I'll be going to Disneyland for the first time in 12 years (and my first time as an adult) and I have a small but beloved pin collection from when I was a kid. Glad to know pin trading is still going strong. I never knew about the Grand Californian meetup!! That's definitely going on our itinerary! Great tips and really fun vlog. :)

One of the staff with a colored lanyard told me no one time when I tried to trade them a pin, he said he only trades with 10 and under, I was 13 or 14 at the time. Later on that day another staff member told me that they are not allowed to say no to anyone no matter the age or lanyard color.
