The Lord of the Rings is an epic high fantasy trilogy written by University of Oxford professor J.R.R. Tolkien. The story began as a sequel to Tolkien's earlier, less complex children's fantasy novel The Hobbit (1937), but eventually developed into a much larger work which formed the basis for the extended Middle-Earth Universe. It was written in stages between 1937 and 1949, much of it during World War II. It is the third best-selling novel ever written, with over 150 million copies sold.
I'm not sure that it is the third highest selling novel written--the 150m copies sold figure sounds dubious at best. If it IS true, it's only in a reckoning where each individual part of the trilogy is counted as a copy of the whole, or something akin to that. A more reasonable figure is "> 80m copies sold". This figure is from "The Frodo Franchise", which was published in 2007 (so out of date, but I can't imagine another 70m copies of LoTR have sold in the interim, seeing as sales peaked in the early aughts following the films).
Im glad I grew up with these great movies. I watched the return of the king in theaters on the night of the showing when I was 6 years old. I will never forget that experience. On my birthday me and my dad watched all 3 of the movies start to finish and we both had a great time. Surely my best moments that I remember were either LOTR movies/stories or related to LOTR (fake sword fights with my friends, video games, making movies, etc). I miss being a kid :)
I've written every essay for the last year while listening to this video (specifically this one) and my teachers all think I'm super enthusiastic about whatever I'm writing about, no matter what the topic. In reality I feel like I'm in middle of a great war between good and evil as I explain how film changed from Nitrate Celluloid to Acetate Celluloid (I'm in film school (because of LOTR)). So yeah - tip for students: This soundtrack makes any essay feel adventurous to write. And hell, I bet it would make any kind of writing spruce up a bit.
Frodo - "I wish none of this had ever happened to me" Gandalf - "That's not for you to decide, all you have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to you"
I genuinely do not think that there has ever been a better soundtrack for any film. Or that they could have done better for LOTR. This music takes us beyond just the film, and pages ofTolkien's mythology, to ages beyond our own, and connects with us still. Hiraeth.
I love every single second of this soundtrack! I just watched the Hobbit, the Desolation of Smaug, and had to calm myself with this. Now, my soul won't rest before "there and Back again" is released.

Well Token survived the first world war The Lord of the Rings was his escape and release from the real world you can see the influence in his writing. He mashed up many ancient mythologies in Europe (a lot from anglo-saxon and Norse mythology) and his own ideas and made the ultimate piece of literature not seen since Homer's Illiad and Odyssey. It's a true masterpiece; However his true Masterpiece was the Silmarillion which his son ended up Finishing for him, in which the story explains the origin of Saron, Elrond, the numanorians, Lady Gladreial, and Aragorn's distant family lineage. The story is more deep than the Lords of the rings, only for those who know much about the Second and First ages.

Sad and dark. Some happy moments and it always end well. Just like Northern England. Nothing compares. I know it is filmed in New Zealand. But emigration by British people to New Zealand meant that they would be happy to live there forever simply because it is so similar to England. Prove of the pudding is in the eating.
36:08 .......................... ;-; why am I still crying I literally watched this movie 10000 times still this scene always gets me: "I would have followed you , my brother , my captain , my king"
It's amazing to see such beautiful things be brought to life, story's, music, joy and laughter. Just the simple things in life that make the world go around.
It is hard to find a good sound track for movies. Even if it was good in the actual film, does not always mean it transfers well to an album. Though with the Lord of the Rings sound track, be it because of the fantastic direction the films them selves took, or the musical melody of the tracks, you can still see the movie play out before you. The album here, while removed from the moving images of the film, does not suffer from any negative reactions. It is a whole, and always will be whole. Truly fantastic work. I guess to some it up, the sound track and film, are perfect synergy.

Lord of the Rings movies are the greatest movies ever
Sad and dark. Some happy moments and it always end well. Just like Northern England. Nothing compares. I know it is filmed in New Zealand. But emigration by British people to New Zealand meant that they would be happy to live there forever simply because it is so similar to England. Prove of the pudding is in the eating.
36:08 .......................... ;-; why am I still crying I literally watched this movie 10000 times still this scene always gets me: "I would have followed you , my brother , my captain , my king"
Yeeees.
