Sam Witwer (Being Human, Star Wars) joins us this week and we get deep. He opens up about reassessing his life and how people’s impression of him being a screw up molded his self image for years. Sam talks about how this industry encourages people to hide vulnerability and put up a front; and how some of the false fame that can come as a side effect of this can be harmful to your mental health. Whole lot of real life talk in this episode, but we also get into Sam’s love for (and career with) the Star Wars franchise, how some of the SiFi issues resolved on Being Human, and his experience in Season 8 of Smallville.

Being Human was my introduction to Sam Witwer. He was amazing in it & I loved him ever since.
Being Human was one of the best shows on air. I was absolutely gutted when it was canceled….
I was as well, but I was happy the show at somewhat of a good ending that tied up most things. I need to rewatch it one of these days
I remember being told that basically the Studio did NOT want to pay for the increase in Salaries for Cast & Crew. I loved the show & got to get my pic w/ Sam Witwer.
I remember they didn't tell us it was the final season they kind of announced it mid-season or people got the vibe of it
@@breakwoodhopper6739 Yep. The last episode was on my birthday….
@@tygrlili it's crazy there's still no way to buy the complete series either
Syfy dropped the ball so often. Really enjoyed the Being Human series and Sam had some great scenes as Aiden.
I loved Being Human (US version)! The cast and characters were so great.
That is so badass that everyone had to do this stuff on there own. And they didn't go broke or anything. Witwer and Drew came in clutch, probably saved the show
Sam’s performance in THE MIST was heartbreaking! His character’s death stayed with me the most.
Met Sam in person. Really cool and loves the fans and crew on his projects.
Watching Sam at some points kinda feels like being alive to see Christopher Lee when he was dracula, like the guy has already done more than basically every actor out there, and he's not even going grey yet... We already have so many performances from him, yet you get the impression that we've barely even SEEN what this guy can do yet.
He's so great. Always gives every project his all and Being Human was spectacular bother UK and US.
Just finished watching Being Human 💕 wish it had more seasons.
Sam is awesome. I love that he geeks out even more than I do as a fan of certain things.
I loved Being Human (US version) so much I was so mad when it got cancelled. I thought the cast was so great.
Being Human was amazing....wish Scyfy made well written shows like this again
Being from the UK myself I remember the original Being Human and it was one of those original & rare concepts for a British TV Show to exist in a long time at the time it first aired in the UK which I became a huge fan of up until BBC in classic BBC fashion pretty much sabotaged the show leading to it’s cancellation too which was such a shame as it was really refreshing at the time for a British TV Show as usually 90% of our programming over here is pretty much nothing but boring lifestyle & reality shows, game shows, melodramas, crime and period costume dramas
Its been a while since I've seen either version but to me the UK one was just idk it felt lacking in gravitas. Felt more in the vain of the office US. Like all jokes tounge cheek and not enough drama. I loved US version a lot more
I LOVED Being Human, both the SiFi and UK versions! Better than they had to be!!
I was crushed when this show ended; it just kept getting better.
Love Sam and Being Human. Drew Struzan, the legend!!!!
Dude was really good in Being Human. Damn good show overall.
For a while there, I was like, "I love his work but this dude's too pretty to be a real nerd."
And then he launches into a minutes-long analysis of Drew Struzan's work on the Thing poster and I gotta admit that if he is faking it, the man is doing an excellent job.
That's the thing, usually nerdery starts young, then some nerds grow up to be chiseled out of granite.
@@RagnarokMic Excellent point.
Oh man look up "Sam Witwer sets the record straight on George Lucas" a 6 minute unfiltered unbroken rant defending everything star wars and it is Amazing to listen to. Sam is so passionate about what he does and what he loves, major props.
Michael I love these podcasts! Thank you!!!
Sam witwer is amazing
How is Sam Witwer not a major actor at this point?! Someone in Hollywood hate him or something?
He kind of tells you why in this, he is way too driven and willing to bypass execs and call them out on their bullshit. Entertainment execs don't really like it when "the talent" shows them up and does a way better job than them. He has a history of not backing down and maintaining his integrity in an industry that wants everyone to cowtow to the higher ups... Love the guy an his acting lol
Fuck dude this conversation is just wally west talking to starkiller
Somehow it's unbelievable to me that SyFy made Battlestar Galactica and now makes Reginald the Vampire...
Darn he must really be a vampire he looks the same 🤔
I NEED one of these posters. I’m looking now
So, where the hell is this Struzan painting? Are you telling me SyFy didn't use it AT ALL?
Sci-Fi (SyFy) was more on a mission before it became another corporate subsidiary of whoever owns it. They dropped the ball on a lot of good shows.
I'm so used to it being called SyFy, that I didn't know what sifi was lol
Being Human (US/Canada) season 1 was basically the same as season 1 of the British original but with more episodes. Season 2 was probably the weakest, but seasons 3 and 4 were so good and ended the series pretty well. Both series have their strengths and weaknesses, but I prefer the North American one.
UK one got really affected by losing their OG cast going into series 4.
@@cynaracherrycaryccc That first British cast had great chemistry, better than the North American cast.
Loved loved loved being human I feel it was one of the only British adaptations that was just as good
Neat that an actor would show this kind of initiative.
Being Human was criminally underrated
Facts 🔥
Sci-fi channel use to be amazing but it tries to go in so many directions without clear vision that it fails. When I was younger I got my dad to get cable so I could watch seaquest and then farscape, sg1. Now I haven't watched sifi channel in at least five years
So, ahh, I was looking at the "The Thing" lobby poster just now. I'm sorry but I think he was looking a bit too deep into the whole "hand" thing. In fact, given the time frame the artist was given to work on it, it all makes sense now.
I would love to own one of those posters
It’s spelled Syfy
As much as I love Sam, after watching the UK version I just couldn't get into the US version.
me too, UK was far grittier
UK werewolf looked like a furby
@@jackmerrideww My brain has been trained to give BBC special effects a pass if the story is good. Comes from growing up watching Dr. Who.
I think you meant to spell it SYFY (understandable since they they invented that screwy spelling)
(understandable since they they invented that screwy spelling) bud im 45 and if you think the syfi was screwy spelling what would you class the last 10 years spelling ,idk,pm me,stfu, tmi, lmk just some why not say it it more insulting saying it than implying it
@@bigbaz-1218, I’m about to be 37 later this month & I had to look up “lmk” 🤣🤦🏽♀️
Died in Battlestar. Died in Being Human. Died in The Mist...
Watching the U.S version made me want to watch the U.K original
Oh the uk version is the best, trust me.
Those posters are sold out now
It’s honestly creepy how little Sam has changed. He looks EXACTLY the same
That's because he's a vampire, duh.
From the Vampie Aiden Waite, to Galen Merrik/Starkiller, to Darth Maul, to even Dracula and MANY MORE, Sam is the Man.
Thank you, Michael, as well as your Staff who work with you, for the interview with this talented Gentleman.
Also... You ain't no Slouch yourself.
SciFi?
Oof
Oooof
SYFY not Sifi 😂
Typical of rosie to ask if sam multiple times if he made his money back
No disrespect to Sam but I feel the UK version was infinity better.
