You have no idea how difficult its to do that. I remember when I used to do bodybuilding and I thought I was very strong and buff but one time I tried to do the swinging with much smaller clubs it put immense amounts of pressure on my wrists because it is so difficult to keep balance of something very heavy and relatively long vertically. I think this you want to shake hands with this guy

With dumbbells you’re just training/ using one type of muscle at one time but using mugdar/ meels/ gada requires almost every upper part of body to work in sync. I used to gym and tried 16 kg of mugdar but failed miserably, I had to start from 4 kg of mugdar, now after 1 month i can train with 6 kg of mugar from one hand, it looks easier but its requires so much of upper body power, its best of MMA & boxers, the upper body generates hell alot of power/ push on punching something.

      Know your facts
The earliest records of this type of resistance device being used by wrestlers predates the 19th century, in ancient Persian, Egypt and the rest of the Middle East.Their practice has continued to the present day, notably in the varzesh-e bastani tradition practiced in the zurkaneh of Iran.

I just want to clear something up so some people may not get the wrong idea here. Some of our Indian friends raise an objection to the fact that club swinging was first brought to India by the Persians. They talk about the GADA and it's application throughout the history of India. However they dismiss the fact that Indian GADA (a long bar with a ball shaped weight attached to the top of it) is totally unlike in shape, size and structure to the Persian Meel. Even the method of using it is different to the way Persian Meel is used. In ancient Persia which is at least 5000 years old, Iranians used something similar to Gada when going to battle...Then I suppose we should say, that Indians copied their GADA from the Persian mace! Don't worry, we are not going that far. LOL. International Zurkhaneh Federation, established hundreds of training centers all around the world, mostly in European and Asian countries and I wouldn't be surprized if 10 years from now, in a city and in a country which hosts a Zurkhaneh center, someone comes along and claims that the birth place of Zurkhaneh sport was his own native land from the beginning. It is ridiculous No?...By the way, I am familiar with the stories of MahaBharata and Ramayana which I must say are beautiful but there is no connection here between these legends regarding Gada and the Persian Meel. One thing though, Zurkhaneh or the ancient martial art of Iran is as old as the history itself and just like you friends who don't want anyone to mess around with your history, we Iranians don't like anybody and I mean anybody to play around with our cultural heritage either. Otherwise, I wouldn't be here writing all these stuff. Just one other thing for closing this lovely discussion, I always have and had a good deal of respect for our Indian brothers. I still think that Indian people are a very polite and decent people but Mr. Raj, If you ever want to insult someone, do it right in front of thier eyes and face not from behind a computer terminal. This is NOT manly and Venkatesh Babu, in reply to your comment here, our feelings as Iranians are not going to be hurt because there is no logic or truth to what you say regarding clubbell swinging. You are simply misled. I hope you are satisfied with my lengthy explanation. In any case, In order to substantiate your claim, the burden of proof rests with you and not us. I am sorry, If I hurt your feelings. LOOOOOOOL.

So I've got no dog in this fight being neither Persian (Iranian) or Indian. I'm Greek, we invented enough ; ) But in all fairness to say that the gada doesn't count as the predecessor of the meel is manipulating facts. Yes the gada is somewhat different in shape, but the principle is exactly the same - a weighted object that is long and heavier on one end than it is on the end which is being held. i.e. a weight that is not balanced, unlike barbells or dumbells (which were invented by the Hellenes), that lends itself to rhythmic swinging. The Persians made it heavier, but adapted the routines to be simpler and shorter to accommodate for the heavier weight (more in line with the Persian personality that demands a man do the 'heavy' lifting). Anyway, to an outsider it sounds like someone saying, "we invented vinyl covered dumbbells which are completely different than all steel dumbbells."

Yes. These are Iranian Meels or Persian Clubs.
During the Mongol invasion of Iran, many Iranian Pahlevans travelled to India and with time they introduced some of Varzesh Pahlavani training tools to Indians. One of such tools were the Meels.
During victorian era these were introduced from India to Europe, were British would simply call them Indian Clubs...
However Indian Clubs look different in shape from the original Persian Meels.

I don't know were you live but If you are able to find a suitable training center near you, I am sure the Ustad (coach) there, is able to help you out a great deal with your training. Anyway, at the beginning you start as a novice and gradually work your way up the ladder. Just like all martial arts there are different ranks and levels to this sport. If you train hard enough, you may also learn the techniques of Persian combat wrestling.

Also zurkhana tradition comes from training soldiers for battle, persia was a military might that rivaled and defeated Rome, while India was never on a similar scale. Hey, mtbkbmt character...in reply to what you said here. Check the results for world wrestling championship in 2014. Iran's national team beats all other teams, most notably the Russians and the Americans both in Greco-Roman and free style wrestling and with so little effort to become the world champion in both disciplines. So you better watch what you say here BOY.

it wasnt really something to be thought of so in depth. but when i use to do them i wasnt allowed to lean them on my chest but then again the ones i used weren't that big....but then i guess that means they're too heavy for him....w.e i was taught that it was cheating but good job to the guy for doing a lot of weight...hope that clears it up for u

Thank you. I didn't mean any disrespect and I apologize for coming out a bit hard here. It is because sometimes I see a bit of disrespect when it comes to this sport. Regardless of the way it is taught outside of it's birth place, for Iranians (Varzesh Zurkhaneh) dose not represent just a sport. it is a way of life...It is extremely sacred.

What a stupid title. They are Indian Clubs called Mugdar in India. They originated in India and when they took it to Persia and started calling them Meel.

No I'm sure it's the other way around. This is an ancient sport in Iran which goes back hundreds and hundreds of years ago not to mention India was part of Iran during Nader Shah. Go read the history

    • @IWillKillSomeDay
      @IWillKillSomeDay 2 роки тому +1

@@ftahmasebi9059 LOL......where do you read such history ? Nader Shah was only a petty invader who was in India for a very short time and did not rule India at all. On the other hand Indian kings like Chandragupta and Ashoka ruled Iran for hundreds of years. Go read history from some authentic sources.
Also the reason why everyone knows this is an India sport because India has books and architecture mentioning the clubs and mugdar thousands of years ago where as there is nothing like that in Iran. History doesn't go by the fairy tales you believe in. Rather it is based on evidence.

@@ssheikh3598 this theory was disproved long time ago. On the other hand it was Indians who migrated to different parts of the world including Iran and spread Sanskrit and Indian culture there. Thats why you find very old traces of Hindu culture in Africa, Arabia and Europe.
