Never got to go to a concert..His death hit me harder than I ever thought a "celebrity" death would ever hit..For the fans he wasn't really a celebrity, you could see him as an actual human being..He was so open and honest about his struggles and when I have bad days I turn on some LP and scream it out with Chester..been a fan since the beginning. Got a tattoo in honor of Chester a few months after his passing. Sings like an angel , screams like a demon#ripchester

Would've loved to have gone to a Linkin Park concert. I had always known about Linkin Park (especially with being a huge fan of the transformers movies when I was little), but I just started getting really into them about 2 years ago. I'm happy to say that over those 2 years, Linkin Park has gained the spot as my favorite band. Its a shame ill never be able to see my favorite band live. RIP Chester

Sometimes even letting someone stay with you doesn’t stop them. My friend used to listen to this on a loop and we knew she was suicidal. Still couldn’t save her. She died last year. By the way, you are a good man for even saying you’d take the person in. Not many ppl do that. ❤️

"Shadow of the Day" was the only song that helped me keep moving after my husband died 4 years ago. Especially the parts about endings and beginnings starting with goodbye. I still need reminding sometimes. Some days it's harder than others to put him away long enough to deal with real life.

Chester used his music and lyrics to try express and shed his demons from the abuse he suffered, towards the end chester overloaded him self with distractions and projects he started an intense workout every day he shared on instagram, he did side projects with other artists and even started working with his first band grey daze and it was all in attempt to overcome his troubles alot of his songs are him sharing his pain, some are a warning of what would happen if the demons in him won. Truly an amazing man and a still to this day tragic loss

Chester Bennington and Mike Shinoda wrote a majority of their songs. Most of them dealing with, embracing, or overcoming darkness. At least that's my opinion.

    • @wildlyawakened
      @wildlyawakened 2 роки тому +3

Absolutely true. Expressing the darkness in lyrics and singing is a coping mechanism and a way to heal in a way. It's powerful. I say that as someone who sings to release emotions.

My son died on the 1 year anniversary after Chester. (He was terminally ill). I listent to LP almost everyday. Mike & Chesters lyrics spoke for my son, even the positive songs.

After Chester committed suicide, it was revealed that he had contemplated suicide in 2006 but it was kept a secret. This album was released in 2007, and Shadow of The Day is possibly about that. “Your friends all plead for you to stay.” The song is about someone who wants to die but his friends want him to stay.

The first concert I went to was 25/01/2008, it was a Linkin Park concert and I was 15 and skipped school to go, to this day I still can't believe just how lucky I was... Definitely should have done my research though, never attended a rock / metal concert with a hoodie and a hat on again! I nearly passed out from the heat! 😂 Getting to see Chester in real life on stage is definitely a memory that will stay with me forever.

I got to see Linkin Park with Chester twice and.I was fortunate enough to go to the tribute show. One time Snoop Dogg opened up for them and there was a rainstorm at an outdoor show. When Linkin Park came on it was a torrential downpour. Instead of sending everyone to their cars, Chester had the entire lawn section come under the cover and squeeze in until the lightning stopped. When they got the go-ahead for the show to resume they went bananas and didn't make anyone go back to the lawn. So, an amphitheater that holds 17,000 with a majority on the lawn ended up raging out altogether in the seated area. It was wild, nobody had seats and nobody cared as everyone became one and just had a good time.

Linkin park was a band I grew up with. I listened (and still do) to there music when my depression and anxiety become to much for me to handle. “Leave out all the rest” was one of their first songs I heard. It made it clear that life doesn’t last forever on this earth, but if we do our best to bless others with our presence, when our time comes, hopefully we leave behind something good, that makes the world a slight bit better. RIP Chester, you made me a better person and You’re music helps push me when I’m at my lowest. Everyone take care of yourselves, you’re worthwhile people.

Mike Shinoda was the main writer, with Chester working with him, or others in the band. Mike recently said that he sometimes wrote them with himself in mind, and sometimes with Chester in mind. I never did get a chance to go to a Linkin Park concert and I will always regret it. I did get to see Mike Shinoda in concert during his Post Traumatic tour and he was amazing. The tour was for the fans, giving them a chance to grieve together and celebrate Chester. He played a lot of LP songs along with his new ones from the PT CD. When you get a chance, you should check out some of Post Traumatic's videos. That CD was a journey through grief into acceptance and finding his way after losing Chester.

I saw linkin park 3 times...greatest live act I’ve seen(probably tied with Kanye West, although entirely different performances obviously).
The lyrics just resonate, “breaking the habit” was huge for me at a time I was going through something, “Crawling” was another one that helped me through some rough stuff. Chester and Mike were 2 of the voices of my adolescence and young adulthood. Forever grateful to them and the entire band. Too many songs to list them all, but man a legend gone too damn soon. RIP Chester.

LP was my first two concerts, in February and July of 2008. At the July one I was lucky enough to see them perform Crawling with Chris Cornell and We Made It with Busta Rhymes. To this day, 30-40 concerts later those two are still easily within the top five best shows. I purchased the professional recordings of both shows with my tickets as well and I listen through them on the anniversary of his death (and several other times throughout the year).

I love Chester cause of his voice and his incredible lyrics that makes you think and is truly emotional , like poems. I wanna FEEL when i listen to music, like an experience and thats what you get with Chester. His first band Grey Daze has released 2 albums now of renewed 30 year old songs but with Chesters original voice. He got to work on one of the album "Amends " before he died , and last year the group finished it plus released "The Phoenix " this summer uo hounour his memory , damn good both albums💣💥 Chester was just 18when he sang those songs but with the voice of a superstar already and raw powerful music. He is the best singer and performer i've ever heard and ever will cause #LegendsNeverDie 🔥🔥 #ChesterBennington #GreyDaze #LinkinPark #DeadBySunrise

I've been lucky to see Linkin Park in concert twice, both times in London. The last time was at Hammersmith just two months before Chester passed away. He was always incredible, but that night there was something powerful that the whole crowd felt. I couldn't put my finger on it, maybe it was the lyrics as we all sang 'One More Light' whilst Chester was reaching into the crown to hold people's hands, maybe it was the way he seemed to be looking into the eyes of every single person in that audience. I was less that ten feet away from him and he had an aura and a presence that I've never experienced at any other concert I've been to. I was heartbroken for Chester, his family and his band mates when I heard the news. It hit so hard. RIP Chester, I've no doubt your music has saved so many lives, I wish we could have saved yours. x

I went to see linking park in 2002. I wish there would have been alot more. They were the first rock band I ever listened to. I was 17 years old. Had them on repeat all throughout high school and always liked them. Not a day goes by that I am not grateful for their music and getting to see them live. RIP Chester. The day I heard I was in disbelief, shock, and of course denial. After that I cried so hard. Still to this day I cry during all the songs. You saying he could come stay with you and youd do anything you could to get him through it shows just how much of an caring and genuine man you are. I bet you Chester would be grateful for that kindness and for all the love his fans show him still to this day. 💕

I was lucky enough to see Chester twice. I saw him with Linkin Park in 2007 for the projekt revolution tour as they were promoting the minutes to midnight album (which both these songs are on). And I saw him in 2015 in his last performance with Stone Temple Pilots before he left them to go record the last Linkin Park album. He was always so high energy and he made every person, from the front row to the nose bleeds, feel like he was performing just for them. He's a once in a lifetime artist and is sorely missed.

❤️ Thank you for doing these. As for who wrote the songs, the majority of LP’s lyrics were written by Mike Shinoda. Mike and Chester wrote together, too, but a lot of their stuff comes from Mike, even sometimes writing from Chester’s perspective. Remember, mortality is universal and they were growing up and becoming parents and contemplating their own mortality when they wrote this. It’s easy to read too much into the lyrics, in hindsight.

I've seen Linkin Park perform live 3 times, in 2003, 2010 and 2017. Linkin Park were one of the bands I really got into when I first started developing my taste in music in my pre-teens.
Incidently, the last time I saw them perform live in 2017 was Chester's last live show. Just 2 weeks before he passed away.
"Leave Out All The Rest" is one of my absolute favourite Linkin Park songs.
Love the lyric: "I'm strong on the surface, not all the way through. I've never been perfect, but neither have you."
Also, you could say that what we see in the "Shadow of the Day" video is a good illustration of what Chester's mind was like. In an interview he once described his mind as a dangerous neighbourhood that he shouldn't be allowed to wonder alone in.

Chester, Robin Williams, and Chris Cornell were three bright candles whose flame hid from them. To quote Robin Williams “I think the saddest people always try their hardest to make people happy. Because they know what it’s like to feel absolutely worthless and they don’t want anybody else to feel like that.” Even surrounded by a room full of people who care, or claim to, I feel the same every fucking day. It's not lacking the courage to end it, its lacking the strength to get up to do it.

In 2012, the wife and I went to a concert on the Living Things tour. It was amazing. My wife never really liked my taste in music and LP was it for me, but by that time she had come around and understood why I appreciated them so much because these songs really helped me to get through similar demons inside of me. We had a great time at that concert. I think one of the most distinctive things I remember was the pyrotechnics on "Burn it Down"; we were in the middle of the box seating area, but it still wasn't super close to the stage and we could feel the heat off of every burst of flames.
Another great memory that I had was when Livings Things dropped. I was putting together a bookcase in my bedroom and the wife and kids were all hanging out with me and we listened to that album, beginning to end, within about an hour of getting it from Amazon Music.
The last great memory I had was after One More Light was released... the weekend before Chester left us. We had bought tickets and were going to head out of town to go to a concert on their tour in just a little over a month and I was really hyped up, but One More Light was still such a shock of an album for me. We were taking were on a nice Sunday drive (and it was literally on Sunday) and listening to OML. It finally resonated with me that weekend and was really helping to me to think about good memories of my grandmother who had died not long before.
Plenty of other good memories just listening to their music and pushing the pain away. That is really what it did for me. It makes me remember the pain but at the same time let it go, a little. It never really permanently helps it, but it is like some therapeutic release of it building up over time, like a sort of detox.

Would like to see your reaction to "Kenji" and "Where'd you go" by Fort Minor. Fort Minor was Mike Shinoda's rap group when the band had decided to take a break.

I struggle with depression and anxiety everyday and I completely understand everything he says. If you haven't experienced the same kind of depression it's hard to relate and I get that. There are many days I want to give up and almost did but my daughter is my life and when she got diagnosed with brain cancer I hit an all time low. But after dallas children's didn't do what's best for her I took her to MD Anderson hospital in Houston and they made progress with her tumors and things were getting better. Then they weren't. My moms health declined even more and then my car got totalled by a drunk driver and I wasn't able to replace it. So I started to save money to get anything reliable to get us around and to Houston and back home. Then the Coronavirus hit and all the money I saved was gone and shes overdue for a checkup with her oncologist. I've been a fan of Chester since before he was in linkin park when he was in Grey Daze. He has a way with words that I just relate to. Grey daze's song "sometimes" is a perfect example. So when I heard the news I was devastated like this dude isn't here anymore. We will never get to see his goofy ass or hear his beautiful voice ever again. Not only that but he was so giving and so sweet. I just pray he is at peace cause at the end of the day that's all anyone ever wants, is peace. 🙏💜💜

Man it's hard for me. I've been a long time LP fan, but when my friend and I were contemplating going to our closest show (which was a state away) , I was on the fence. We were in the process of figuring it out when we heard the news about Chester and we were just devastated. I feel bad for even doubting them, and then it turns out that LP will never be what it was. Very unfortunate but I'm glad for all of these LP soldiers,

Every single member in LP contributes in writing songs, mainly Chester, Mike and Brad delson. But they have said this many times they never write songs first they always have music done first and then they add words.

    Poem by St Augustin:
    Love never disappears
    Death is nothing
I just went to the other room.
I am I, You are You
As we were to one another
    We will always be.
Call me as you have always called me.
Talk to me as you always have.
Don’t change the tone of your voice.
    Don’t be sombre or sad.
Keep laughing at what we used to laugh together.
Pray, smile, think of me, pray with me.
At home, let my name sound
    As it always did.
    With no fuss, no shadow.
Life still means what it has always meant.
It’s what it has always been: the thread isn’t cut.
Why should I be out of your mind
Just because I am out of sight ?
I’m not far, just on the other side of the path.
    All is fine, you see.
Wipe your tears and don’t cry if you love me.

The entire band wrote all their songs together collaboratively, though the lyrics were mostly Mike and Chester together.
Shadow of the Day is one of my absolutely favorite songs by them, and Linkin Park were my favorite band for like... 16 years. That music video is way too real now...
Never got to go to an LP concert; wish I had :( Trying to pick a #1 favorite song by them is nearly impossible. They were my teenage years and beyond. They gave me both an outlet and a reflection of my angst. I have an anxiety and depressive disorder, which I've struggled with my entire life, but I wasn't diagnosed until I was like 23 or 24. I never knew why I felt the way I did, but at least I always had LP to be a mirror for me and show me I wasn't alone. Chester's death hit me harder than any other celebrity death ever did... maybe harder than any ever will. I felt like there was now a hole drilled straight through my entire life somehow, like a piece of me was missing, which I never thought I'd feel for someone I'd never met. It took me 6 months after his death to even listen to a Linkin Park song again, and even then it took me another 6 months to be able to do it without crying. I wasn't a huge fan of the One More Light album when it came out, but after he died, whenever I'd hear "One More Light" (the song) on supermarket playlists, I'd start crying.
A lot of people weren't fans of One More Light, and of course people on the internet get stupid and arrogant behind a username, so a lot of people trashed the band. Called them sellouts and much worse. In one of the last interviews Chester gave, he lashed out at these fans, cursing them out and generally just being pissed off at them. Which was totally justified, but also quite different from most of his public image where he seemed to be such a ray of light and kindness despite his open struggles with depression and abuse. Looking back, it was clear that at the time of the interview, he was already close to his breaking point. He'd always had at least the fans, but now so many people who claimed they "used to be" fans were shitting on him for making the kind of music that made him happy. His close friend Chris Cornell had just committed suicide. I can imagine he'd started to feel like he had nothing left tethering him to the world. Yes, he had a family, but once you're that far deep in the hole, it starts to look like you're giving everyone you love gift by leaving, because you only seem to bring them pain. I'm talking from experience here... I've never attempted suicide, but I've been very close to that edge several times in my life. It is not, despite what many people on the outside think, selfish or an easy way out. It is an act of a desperate soul who feels they are nothing but a burden on everyone else and the only way to help their loved ones is to die.
Anyway... my rambling is over. RIP Chester, we will miss you and love you forever.
