This is amazing seeing foreigner discover China in different perspectives. Not only the big international cities, but also this place that almost no one knows on the Internet, even Google don't know much about it. The story of red flag canal was eulogized during Chairman Mao's period. Yet nowadays, the young even don't know such place and project existed during that time. The spirit and people who dedicated themselves need to be remembered.
Nash He, did you noticed that she mentioned in her video that Chairman Mao opposed this project at first? Not sure who gave her the wrong information that Mao ordered to build the steel mill instead. Some of the local government officers might order them to build the steel mill, not Chairman Mao. My parents experienced that period of time.
The award ceremony from 4:00 got me a bit emotional. This is why your travelling is important Jordan.. to show us how amazing humanity is all over the world. Lovely to see those Chinese kids and their proud parents. Such a beautiful place too. The story of those canals was a triumph of people power.
Drone footage was essential, it helped show a broader perspective of the totality of the canal project. You told this story well. Thank you for the hard work.
Incredible we never hear of stuff like this in America. Everything on the mainstream media about China is soooooo negative. Thanks for your videos. I am falling in love with China!!!
You know western media only report China as an evil country. We Chinese people got used to these shit. We just ignore it and keep making our country better.

As one of your subscribers who is originally from Linzhou county, Anyang city, Henan province (not many so far I guess:P), I am really appreciate that you could present my lovely hometown on your UA-cam channel. Wikipedia also has a page talking about Red Flag Canal en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_Flag_Canal. The County was lack of water so badly that local people could only take showers for three times in their life before Red Flag Canal was built. And the mountains in the county are all stone mountains, which increased the difficulty of the canal project. Therefore almost all the local young people, no matter male or female, joined the construction team. My grandma was a construction worker when she was in early 20s, and her job was to detonate explosives because she ran fast. She still felt sad each time she told me that many of her teammates died in the project. That is why the cave shown in the video is name after 青年("youth"). But is it worthy to have such a canal? Definitely yes. Why? Because after the canal was built, 1) residents' life became much longer with clean water, and 2) farmers saved more time on seeking water for irrigation and had more time working in other industries. Due to the huge project, many young farmers were trained into construction workers, and had been taking building contracts nationwide since 1980s. Currently, people in my hometown become more and more rich, and the those stone mountains are turned into wonderful tour attractions. Welcome all of you to my hometown and enjoy the sightseeings.
Wow, thank you so much for sharing that! This is the first subscriber comment that I am pinning to the top. What an incredible story. Your grandma sounds like an amazing woman. If and when I go back to Lin Zhou, I will let you know!
damn it, you know that a beautiful touching story happened in that period of Chinese history must have been politically corrected(you know communism), or even a worse scenario which is the story has been subjectively modified to empathize people. This is what Chinese people really good at, they tend to put themselves on a high moral ground and then tell people stories, they‘ve done that a lot when interacting with foreigners who have beliefs and hearts to favour their interests or "face" shit or just trying to get people's attention especially when they excreting hormones. When a Chinese tells you a story, there is a question you have to ask, is this objectively real? and what's could be worse than the self-awareness of a Chinese, especially when they try to put it into a story...
They're all so artistic, kids and adults. Their painting look amazing. You're so lucky to travel there! Thanks for bringing out all the positive great things going on in China; you're well rewarded.

Even now people there still talk about and believe in the “spirit of Hongqi Canal”, which is bravery, team work, and sacrifice. 河南林州(Lin Zhou, Henan),以前叫林县(Formerly Lin County),林县红旗渠(Red Flag Canal),7万人参与修建(70,000 people contributed to building it),过程中死了81人(81 people died during the construction),被誉为“人工天河”(Known as "Man-made Sky-river")
looking at the 3D map at 14:02 it's obvious that without the canal the town really has no chance in getting enough water it needs. Respect to the people sacrificed their lives during the construction.

Looking forward to seeing more videos! Such a nice place. I love the mountains here in China. I love the story you told and how you told it. Thanks for sharing!
Respect!!! They are all heroes!
以后的人再没有这些奉献精神了,100年后等到年久失修后,谁还会修补呢?
Wei Zhang 靠技术来解决。
Wow Jordan your video is getting more awesome!
wow, beautiful video!
Great video and story. Although i've spent over 3 months in China, had never heard of Linzhou. China can definitely be an interesting place, very different from everywhere else.
Love China!
For sure, fantastic country!

love the drone shot.
Another great video. I dont know how you find these places, but that was one really cool story about the town.
Good you have seen the polars in China--1st tier city (Shenzhen) and 4th tier town in the comparatively undeveloped central area of China.
Even as a Chinese, I near heard about the Red Flag Canal. But in your video, I see the beauty of the canal, it's really amazing. Thanks to your video, letting me know more about my country!
wow, such a great video!

This video is amazing and high-quality. I have never been Hongqi Canals, and I marked it.
