Absolutely the most amazeballs story ever, thank you for sharing Ken Nixon what a rad life dude! You rock man!!!🤘🏼 Looks like you’re on mars! 🤘🏼🙏 #Lockboss
Ken what a story!!! I share the doldrums of a Californian with you and yes depending on where you are at fireworks can be out right banned.. I'm about 50 miles north of Sacto and it is dry dry dry.. We still have shows here and its surprising how many folks still sneak in illegal aerials. Hopefully I meet you down the road! Thanks for the interview! #lockboss
So awesome you have Ken on! He and his wife are dear friends and you'll just never meet a nicer guy! PyroLock actually keyed the cores that I have on my home.
#Lockboss. Wow great story. I love hearing other Lockboss community about their background before becoming a locksmith. Great advise too. "You are Successful doing in what you are passion about"
I'm in a similar situation as Mr. Nixon. I was unfortunately recently medically retired from my previous career (which I very much loved), so I had to find something else to do after being forced to retire. After thinking long and hard about what to do next (mostly considering something in the field I had just retired from), I remembered some covert entry training I received for work about a dozen or so years ago. It was some of the most fun training I had ever received. I learned how to pick and bypass locks, how to impression keys, how to bypass security systems, so on and so forth. Throughout my career, although I didn't get to utilize those skills too often, I was able to apply them every here and there. As I thought about that training, I remembered just how much I had enjoyed that week-long training. As a result, I decided to look into how I could pursue something in the field of locks and keys and physical security. Although a totally different direction from my previous career, I started researching what it would take to become a locksmith. I found that it was most certainly doable and decided to go that route instead of staying in the field I had just retired from. I figured starting my own locksmith business would be a good option for me, especially since I like to work with my hands and I wanted to continue to help people. Although starting a new business during these difficult times is a bit scary, I'm going for it and hoping that I can one day be a true #Lockboss. That is what I'm currently striving for.
Like ken I started out as a kid loving locks and collecting keys. As a 5 year old I could look at your keys and tell you what kind of car you had and what brand lock was on your house. Always wanted to be a locksmith and studied locksmithing books and any info I could get and finally took the plunge at around 30 adding locksmithing to my regular handyman work.started mostly commercial but I’m doing more of automotive now and can’t get enough. I love learning more everyday to make me a better #LockBoss
Hey Ken, Thx for doing PJ's show. Our Fire Department typically do the Fireworks for our town during special events. We only get the consumer stuff, but our budget allows us to put on about a 20 minute show, and the town.people seem to really enjoy it. I had thought (more than once) about getting my license, but the opportunity to work with commercial grade stuff here is extremely limited. I remember that video on the Tear Gas canisters in locks. When I was in the infantry we had to do the Gas chamber at least once a year. More fun than a barrel of monkeys. PJ Thanx for having Ken on. #LockBoss
Very interesting story about Ken. Thanks for sharing. I love all the back stories of fellow community members. It just goes to show that no matter what your back ground is you can always change your career. Just follow your passion. #Lockboss
Sounds Very Interesting to be a Pyro #Lockboss. It's also Amazing that Many of Us MAY have seen over the Years while watching our Favorite Bands and Events. Thank You Ken and PJ for a Different Type of Show Today.
I totally understand Nixon's fascination with the lock world, locks have all these modules and on their own they are still designed to be interchangeable with other parts making them LEGOs for grown-ups. Also, the key blanks that are designed for master key systems is another bonus to the industry 🍻
Eating up all these stories, life experience, and advice. Got my course kit from you guys, can't wait to get started! Thanks for the stories and advice Ken. 👍 #Lockboss
Always love meeting other lockboss members and hearing how they got started also helps to give new locksmiths and older ones advice on their techniques and how they can improve or change for the better it's all about learning and this community is very very helpful with that there are not too many locksmiths out there willing to bring along the newbies that's part of the reason I love this Channel and CLK #lockboss
I am always interested in how people get into locksmithing. 1976 to 1984 I worked various jobs in the oilfield. Then I worked several years with disabilities. Then I did 27 1/2 years in law enforcement (this is when I started picking locks and vehicle lockouts). After I retired started learning about locksmithing and started my own small business as a mobile locksmith.
Very interesting interview. I swear if you told me his brother was Jimmy Houston the fisherman, I’d believe you. Jimmy Houston Outdoors with brother Ken Nixon Indoors. #Lockboss
I thought Ken Nixon was going to ow stuff up. Intresting the combination of the name protocol. As you said you could see where the name.came from. Are you going to start selling fire work at CLK supplies? LOL That was great conversation. #lockoss
Not sure what to say -- for indoor or "Proximate" Pyrotechnics, you are there to enhance the performers -- In outdoor aerial Displays, you are the performer, but "hidden" in the background. Personally I prefer the large aerial shells for outdoor Displays, but Proximate Pyro is way cool also -- you just have to be very careful, follow all the laws, and know what your are doing -- to do it Safely!!!
