my favorite part of your style of painting is how quickly you can produce a tabletop standard mini… while having the option to go back and layering it up whenever there’s time! another excellent video🎉
I was so shocked seeing how speckled / textured the paint after priming was. Thank god you pulled out the good white(TM) and produced such an awesome paint job :)
Great demo of how to get good white, as someone that has painted hundreds of Napoleonic Austrians why didn’t I know about this white then, great to watch..
That is some amazing looking white power armor. Kudos man, that's hard to pull off. That Pro Acryl white is the best white I've used by a very wide margin. I've been extremely happy with all their colors so far. Coal Black is great too. Just a fantastic matte black.
Yes before I tried it I thought I found a good white but this is on another level! I think it’s worth investing in a “good” white and black, even if you mostly use citadel paints like I use in GW mode tutorials. I always hated painting white, still not my favorite but SO much easier now!
I watched another video with a hack on how to get shade paints to stain panels less. Essentially, you pre-thin it with lahmian medium, but then you also put down a coat of lahmian medium on the panel and while its still wet, hit it with the shade, and because of how lahmian medium works it'll help the pigment settle in the recesses or in the direction of gravity (so hold models upside down to get the underside of armor panels)
Nice! For that Kill Team Justinian coming out (hopefully) soon, instead of buying those random box minis, I'm gonna take some spare primaris models and have Messinius leading them.
I do the exact same thing, i get 2 of each collectable minis, One i keep sealed and one i paint and put them in a little wall display with the box behind the mini.
Can you explain in detail how you set the heads up, as in securing them for painting? I can never figure out a way to paint heads with anything other than sticky tac.
I don't have a problem with space marines wearing belts and such, just that the belts are leather. In a universe where cows died off thousands of years ago, leather wouldn't be a thing. Even now, if you go into a gun shop, the belts and straps and such are almost exclusively black nylon, kevlar, or the like, and getting a leather belt requires a special order. So yeah, I almost always paint mine black.
Well they do have the vat grown beats they use for food and I’m fairly sure they can get leather off them. But you are rite. A piece of military equipment should be nylon or Kevlar.
I've never used Pro Acryl paints but I might have to start after that white finish turned out so well! Makes me want to start a White Scars army. Any other Pro Acryl paints I should look out for?
ALL of them lol! They're incredible. I used mainly citadel for years and now I find myself using these for almost everything not contrast related. Especially if you use an airbrush
I think it might be a bastardized Chlamys, They were a greek military cape that well differed greatly over the years but initially were smallish rectangular woolen capes about the size of a blanket, They fastened over the right shoulder with a clasp denoting allegence and were short and offset on one shoulder so they could be swung and wrapped around the elbow, They then could use that wrapped arm as a shield and deflect blades while they offended with a one hander in the left hand. inb4 yeah I know the marine couldn't use it like that but gdubs has a long history of copying irl historical things and styles without any thought to their function.
Love it but I would like to see you do more dark angels and blood angels it would be interesting to see how you tackle them but keep up the great tutorials they are some of the best I've ever seen on UA-cam
Messinius: :) You: why does this baby man have such a little babyman cape? what's wrong with his little baby cape? Such a little cape for a little man Messinius: :(
Yeah I really find the fact they have belts now annoying. I've always known marines leather pouches to have magnets in them which is how they clip to their armour. Not tried the pro-acryl range, but am seeing more and more people using Bold Titanium White, so may pick it up and try. The short cape is actually a capelet, which refers to a short cape that usually rests on the shoulders. The rope is just that, a decorative rope with tassel ends which are used to denote military rank.
Wow, this looks absolutely amazing, and is an absolute godsend to find in my recommendations so soon after planning a homebrew successor chapter paint scheme that uses white and blue! Two questions, if you'd be so kind. 1. Do you thin that Pro Acryl white at all before you use it? If so, how much? 2. With the Ultramarines Blue contrast paint, do you notice much staining or splotchiness on larger areas? My scheme has the main plate of the shoulder pads as blue, so I'm trying to figure out if that Ultramarines Blue would be good for that or not.
So on question one I work it off a wet pallet. So it is getting thinned a little. If you haven’t invested in a wet pallet yet I very much recommend it. And for question 2 it can get a little like that if your not controlling it. And on a shoulder pad it will be very easy to make sure you get a nice smooth coat just dont rush it. Hope that helps.
@@SPARTANTROOPER Pro Acryl is actually a bit hydrophobic, so anything more then the wet pallet and the wetness of your brush can cause it to have a grainy effect. Each color behaves a bit different but that's how it was described to me by the creators.
The cape is definitely not functional so its just a status symbol I guess whatever it actually represents. There are some more ornamental armors being worn in the setting in some cases and some that seem to be taken straight out of the trenches. It would be nice to kinda know what we should be trying to do with the miniatures tbh. But I understand that not everyone is into the overwhelming continuous flow of plastic. Where did you get the paint from btw? ( or where can you get it locally ;) )
That what looks great! I have one question about the Pro Acryl white: is it a pure or an off-white? Can I take it a bit further with an edge highlight for example if I so please?

Glad you like the style and the videos pal.

I got my first models assembled and want to do a Sons of the Phoenix paint job. This video helps so much!

Interesting…will have a look at trying that out-cheers for that, really appreciate the tip!
Think the half cape came around in history as a personal style choice and practical one.
Oh cool thanks. I was wondering.
Great job my man. Looks pretty cool 👍🏻
Thanks so much, appreciate that!
That's an amazing paint job. You've definitely removed the fear factor of painting white armour
Goal achieved then! That's great to hear!

I just drilled a little hole and superglued it to the stands. Simple.

Honestly if you can spare the cash grab the starter set. It’s a great selection of paints.
Great job mate

Not gonna lie, you had me panicking at the sepia wash but as always the end result is amazing. I'm off to buy a crate of bold titanium white...

Don’t worry, there’s lots more coming for them too! Wow thanks man, really good to hear that, thanks for the support 🙌
More to the point, what are the cloaks made of that stops them bursting into flames so close to the thermal vents of a plasma reactor? 🤣
I think it's the same stuff John Wick uses for his suits :D

Can you thin seraphim sepia and other contrast paints with normal water / normal medium?
awesome paintjob
You can indeed! if you're ever not sure, just try it out on something spare to see what the effect is like!

Looks sweet. I hate painting white, sadly it is a part of my ultramarines. Will definitely try it your way.
It’s for sure worth the try.
Love this video but can the white be done via drybrushing?
Of corse but with a rougher finish.
Great video, how much do you thin the bold titanium white? I always struggle with getting the correct consistency.
I work it from a wet pallet. But no other thinning was required.
@@MediocreHobbies That probably explains why it's always too thin when I use it then. Thanks for the advice.
@@SPARTANTROOPER Pro Acryl is actually a bit hydrophobic, so anything more then the wet pallet and the wetness of your brush can cause it to have a grainy effect. Each color behaves a bit different but that's how it was described to me by the creators.

Can I use agrax earth shade instead of seraphin sepia ?
Yep that will still work.

It's pure white! I wouldn't be the right person to be asking about edge highlighting :D
Is the ProAcryl Bold Titanium White are ink?
It's acrylic paint not ink but it's a lot smoother than most hobby paints!
great video the audio seems a little quiet though
I do need a new mic very badly lol.
Helmet has a laurel and the red thing is a lanyard...nice paint job
Thank you!!!I knew it was something like that but could not think of it! Cheers man!
I'd have gone with aiguillette instead of lanyard, lanyard is more generalist, aiguillette is military.
How long would you say you used on it?
About three hours of painting time.
the best white is bolt titanium by pro acryl. 1000% better than gw.
For sure I’m loving it.
