une des plus belles interprétations. j'ai entendu cette chanson quand j'étais enfant, bien avant de voir le film, et j'étais déjà bouleversé. Même si je ne connaissais pas encore l'intrigue, j'en percevais l'intensité dramatique. Cette musique ne m'a jamais quitté depuis 60 ans. J'ai vécu des deuils violents et douloureux (trop) et cette chanson m'évoque toujours ces arrachements du passé. L'amour ne finit jamais, je sais mes amis disparus tout prêt de moi, et je les rejoindrai un beau jour et nous danserons et seront unis pour l'éternité...

En écoutant, ça me dépasse car dès le début, je suis transporté dans un autre univers...
Le chant est naïvement et juvénilement beau (mais vraiment très très bien chanté, au top des top) et l'orchestration sont tellement sincère que ça me plonge réellement dans l'état d'esprit de mes vingt ans et on retrouve la qualité recherché à tous les niveaux par Michel Legrand...
A ce niveau d'interprétation, ce n'est plus de la musique, ça devient de l'Art...!

You can do a quick search on UA-cam and find the English version. Which is just as pretty.

The original lyrics were also dialogue in a film, a series of duets between Genevieve and Guy, plus one later solo by her. Thus it doesn't work as a song, since 100% of the dialogue in that film is sung, one of many things that set it apart (to see it in a theater is devastating--my significant other was very quiet as we left the theater, and then once we were outside, she fell sobbing into my arms. It's not a bad memory to have. Music often has that impact on her, but this was special.)
Then a popular song in English, sung by Connie Francis and many others. Still beautiful, but more on the sentimental side. And somehow it never works as well in English.
This is clearly an atttempt by Legrand to create a hybrid version of the two approaches, where a single vocalist can get the song across, but the deeper emotional resonance of the original is retained. But it's hard to tell, since I don't know French.
